History
Established in 2007.
It all started as a Monday night date at and auction house in Seattle, WA. Jeremy and Kelly had just shacked up and needed some cheap furniture to fill their little house. Their little house filled up too fast. At Kelly’s prompting, Jeremy filled up his car and made an attempt at selling his finds at the Fremont Sunday Market. The first day there was a complete bust, but the weeks and months that followed showed promise.
After eight months, Jeremy quit his day job to pursue selling furniture full time. He opened his first shop, Patina, in Seattle in 2003. Patina exclusively sold mid-century modern furniture.
By 2004, Jeremy was itching to sell a broader range of items, so he and his wife Kelly opened a 6000sf showroom called Collective. After an enormously successful (and stressful) three years, they made the tough decision to move to Portland and do more of the same, but on a much smaller scale.
And that is how Janus Home was born.
Meet the Business Owner
Kelly and Jeremy S.
Business Owner
Jeremy & Kelly loves all things business, rock music, and good design. Together they have a little boy named Asa. Jeremy has encyclopedic knowledge of music and furniture. Kelly has a knack for developing and implementing shoestring marketing strategies and streamlining business processes. Together, they make Janus Home what it is today.
That said, Kelly’s role in Janus Home is to get the word out and make sure things run smoothly. In her spare time, she enjoys going out dancing, serving as Treasurer for PDX Pop Now!, volunteering at Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls, and sleeping in.
Jeremy has an amazing design sensibility and know-how for bringing great old furniture back to life. When Jeremy isn’t working on furniture, you can find him playing his guitar, napping, and taking leisurely strolls in the neighborhood.
