History

Established in 2011.

Over 60,000 disposable containers are used in Downtown Portland alone every month!

GO Box was started to alleviate this burden by providing reusable containers for food cart patrons. As of the end of 2013, GO Box has saved over 35,000 containers from the waste stream!

Eating out, without the eco-​guilt? Yeah, that’s worth $ 1.50/month! Especially now that Metro isn’t taking «compostable» clamshells and containers, GO Box’s mission is more important than ever to keep food in your belly and garbage out of the landfill. Keep up the good work, GO Box!

I LOVE GO box! This is a great service for a couple of reasons.
1. First of all it eliminates those horrible plastic clamshells that are difficult to recycle, and almost always end up in the trash. I love me some cart food but all the waste kind of taints the experience for me.
2. GO boxes close really tightly (unlike aforementioned disposable clamshells) so I can put my GO boxed food in the bottom of my bike panier and ride home without having Indian food all over my stuff.
3. GO box partners with homeless/​disenfranchised folks to clean the boxes. They get valuable work experience which they can use on a resume to get better jobs in the future.
Definitely worth the small annual fee for unlimited use. The drop sites for the boxes are located in handy locations and the drop-​off experience has always been quick and very friendly, even in Woonwinkle, the fancy-​seeming boutique.
