Ugarit Mediterranean Meals

Yum!

Lamb Schwarma was so juicy and tender. Usually there is a watery greek yogurt sauce but this was creamy and flavorful. The guy in the cart was so friendly, offering free tastes of lamb and delicious tomato soup.
Must return to try other items. BIg YUM!

Deliciousness! I tried Mohammad’s Lamb Feta Salad with kalamata olives and it was AMAZING. Freshness you can see & taste. Flavorful, tender lamb chunks. Generous helping of feta. Bonus: His baklava was also the best I’ve ever had. Give that man a hug!

We will definitely be returning here! A friend and I tried it on a whim today, hoping for some tasty Falafels, and we were definitely pleased! The gentleman who helped us was very friendly and kind — answered our questions and joked around with us. The food was to die for and the Baklava was AMAZING! Cannot wait to return!

Not aweful, but kind of bland — unexpected more savory, but it was just kid of flat. My friend had the baclava and said it was great.

I have searched all of the PDX area for lamb gyros. Finally found this place that has them. Mohamad told me that he is the only place in the city that has lamb gyros and it is true as far as I can find. He also offered every customer a small sample of soup while we wait for our meal to be prepared. Nice man, good food.

I love Mediterranean food and I have high expectations for Portlands street car food.
My issue is its very slow to get your food from Ugairt, waited about 10 minute with only 2 people in for of us to place our order. The food is good, but when your hungry it can be little frustrating. Mohammad did give us free samples of his vegan tomato soup, which is really good and would probably get on a cold day.
I got the Dolmen with Pita while my friend got the Super falafel and baklava. The Dolmen was really good with the sauce he put on it, you get about 6 piece with some Pita, which was perfect for lunch. The Falafel is maybe with soy beans, so not greasy which is really nice. And the baklava is really good, but a little dry since probably it was the end of day.

The tomato soup given to you while you wait for your order may be one of the best tomato soups I have ever tasted.

I’m a complete sucker for Mediterranean food. Maybe in one of my past lives, I had gluttonfests involving various dishes from the region.
I found owner Mo Menzalji to be an easygoing individual. Not much of a line when my friend and I showed up hungry beyond comprehension.
I opted for the Super Halal Lamb Gyro ($ 7), lamb strips with hummus, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, and tzatziki in a rolled pita. This particular pita is more wrap-​like, thinner than the thicker pita that you may find at Greek food establishments. Personally, I just prefer the thicker pita.
My lamb pleaded for more seasoning. It was cut in chunks (not strips), with some pieces being juicy and others slightly dry. I liked the tomatoes and grated cucumber here, but felt like the hummus and tzatziki needed to assert itself more flavor-​wise.
I probably should have asked for Mo to include feta cheese in my gyro, even though I didn’t see that as an option. He does have it; the feta is on his Greek Salad ($ 7; $ 9.50 when adding chicken or lamb).
For being called a «super» gyro, it didn’t feel like a larger portion. I can easily point out three other places for gyros that would live up such a «super» name. The gyro was OK, but didn’t necessarily wow me.
As for my friend, he got the Super Falafel ($ 6.50), also wrapped in a pita with tahini, lettuce, cucumber, and tomato. He said the falafel was a bit dry. Being ravenous pandas, we still ate everything.
Mo also has baklava ($ 2), Turkish coffee ($ 2), and smoothies ($ 5), if you have cravings for those.
Again, the food was not bad, but merely being OK in a city filled with great choices lessens the chances for a repeat visit.

if it weren’t for their friendly service, this would be a 2 star joint. PLUS, I’ve only had 1 of their dishes.
I had Ugarit’s Lamb Gyro, and I’m wishing I had a salt and pepper shaker with me, as well as some of my own Tzatziki sauce, because it is horribly under-​seasoned.
However, all of the ingredients are quite fresh and look high quality each to their own, but the horribly fail to come together. it is one of those situations where you can’t tell if they just have never tasted their finished product, or if there is an insane cultural disconnect on salt and seasoning levels.
Pita bread seemed a little thin.
Mostly though, it is disappointing due to a non-​traditional use of braised lamb leg, as opposed to Kebab, and a lack-​luster Tzatziki.

Free mini cup of soup with any meal… I think it may have just been spaghetti sauce watered down slightly.
Everything was so dry! Like Cardboard Dry! Dry chicken, dry lamb, dry pita, dry falafel. I could barely produce enough saliva to swallow it all down.
Flavor was lacking too.
I won’t be going back.

Darn good falafel. Substantial pita, tangy yogurt, light and tasty chickpeas, fantastic baba ganoush.

To the untrained observer, Ugarit Mediterranean may seem like a typical place, but I assure you that these are the most authentic and highest quality pita sandwiches in the area.
I work downtown and usually eat at food carts 3 – 4 days a week. I recently went through a phase where I was always craving some Mediterranean delight, and consequently went to a hell of a lot of different pita spots in SW.
After many different experiences, I find that the place with the most consistently fresh well flavored sandwiches is Ugarit. It lacks the greasy appeal of some of the other spots in the area, but when I want something that isn’t a gut-​bomb and I know will still be very filling, this is where I go. Plus, his prices are a bit lower than most other places and he is very friendly, albeit a bit intimidating at first.
I’m givin’ it a 5 because I just love this place. I’ve never been here on an ‘off day’ as some of these reviews might imply.

By far the worst food I have ever had. My boyfriend and I each ordered a lamb gyro. The meat smelled rotten. Maybe this is just my opinion but I don’t think a gyro should consist of a giant chunk of meat wrapped in a pita with a squirt of runny tzatziki. This was my first experience at the portland food stands. It was my fault for not realizing it was the only foodstand that didnt have ANY customers. Horrible experience.

It seems there yeeps who have had some pretty good customer service experiences with the mystical Mohammad at Ugarit; I, unfortunately, cannot claim to have received such excellent service. Mr. Mohammad was apathetic, even bordering on rude, and did not appear to enjoy making eye contact.
That being said, he could tell me to burn in hell for all I care as long as he keeps serving up the best Falafel sandwich in town. This sandwich contained some of the freshest vegetables and the tastiest falafels and yogurt dressing I have ever had. Yummmmm and ohh yeah yummm some more god dammit!
I will continue to overlook Mohammad’s shitty service as long as he continues to serve me more badass Mediterranean food — with an attitude.

The owner there was incredibly nice and wants me to put five starts right there, but regrettably my super halal lamb gyro ($ 6) wasn’t very good. The lamb was very chewy and dry and the sauce it was is wasn’t the best flavor. It was really runny, which isn’t all that bad, just a warning. The veggies were very fresh — loved the cukes!
I should have ordered the Turkish coffee, because when do you ever see that on the menu?

Mohammad, proprietor, is a great guy who makes great food. I usually order the mezza plate with chicken (also available without chicken for 1 dollar less). I’m never disappointed. BEST TABOULI IN THE CITY — you heard it here first. The meal is only $ 7.50 and includes baba ganoush, tabouli, hummus, falafel, pita, and a fresh salad of lettuce and cucumber. His dolmas are also great. I’ve had the whole menu — go there! You won’t regret it!

Mohammad, proprietor, seemed like a really nice guy (and looks pretty much like his cartoon portrait) so it pains me to say his gyro wasn’t very good. The lamb wasn’t very seasoned (which is maybe why he offered me hot sauce) and it seemed to be pulled rather than shaved.
He warned me that it was very juicy, and he wasn’t kidding. So if you go for Ugarit, eat it there. By the time I got it back to work (5 min walk) the bottom was soggy.
