This is a nice little market, not to big but they have nice produce but not nearly as big of a selection as New Seasons.
They are seamed mostly aimed at healthier options.
Their location is in one of the best strip malls around. Their neighbors with for example Baker and Spice… So parking can be limited.

Such market in Hillsdale makes a good presence. There is a wide variety of foods at this medium-​sized store. It aims for quality in it’s food, while there is also lots of medicine around. Prices can be very proportional or very disproportional depending on the item in question.
I landed here by accident. I browsed and I saw plenty of usual brands, though also Fleur de Lis local bakery items as well. The checkout section has some nice chocolate on the cheap. I had a caramel nougat and a grape soda for $ 2.33 together, great deals. This does lack both the low price of Fred Meyer and the charm of Whole Foods, but it has elements of both. Their frozen selection and snack selection is often overpriced, and the cash registers aren’t as plenty as a typical supermarket. Tables can be found on the outside. It was nice that this is near a bus stop, in a strip mall, in a location that is unfortunately a bit isolated.
This should work if you fancy yourself being nearby.

Love Food Front! Other «healthy» food stores are owned by national chains. Food front has the best produce and product lines. I asked a clerk at New Seasons about my Aubrey all natural shampoo. «oh it’s off my list,» she replies, helpless. support Food Front and local organic products.

I can dash in & out of Food Front before I can make it from the entrance at Freddie’s to the dairy. Highlights at the co-​op include deli-​made potpies, a yummy new sandwich menu, and many Equal Exchange products. If they could manage to not be out of stock of things, they’ll get the fifth star!

I’m a big fan of the co-​op grocery idea in general, and Food Front does a great job. They have just enough selection to make it a one-​stop shop, but they keep it down to the quality stuff. I love especially their variety of PRO bars, and that they always have some sort of discount going on for most of the flavors.
I suggest adding Food Front into your grocery rotation, you might be surprised at how many items you can check off your list here — maybe even at a slightly lower price.

Wonderful New Store with exceptional selection in produce and products throughout. Well designed building with ample parking underneath.
It has the best bottle return area of all of the Safeway and Freddy’s stores in the area.
Friendly & caring workers, fast service, pride of work.
This is my favorite Safeway.
When I drive here, I am certain I am going to find what I’m looking for. The best part, is the savings I see after I enter my club member #, and $$ just drops from the total. Hurrah for Safeway!

This is the best grocery store I’ve been to. I’m not a member, but the prices are still decent and the choices for natural products, organic produce and local meats are great. The staff are always friendly, and I love the fact that it is a community store that features local products.

Come here for mid-​day soups, seaweed snacks, pints of craft beer, indie coffee beans and the occasional bottle of wine and veggies and to fill our 5 gallon water jug.
Prices are generally overpriced compared to big box food chains.
Haven’t sat in the new indoor eating area.

Walked in on a weekend to the annual citrus tasting in the produce department. The store was bright and inviting. A friendly store employee was sitting behind the table telling people about the citrus and offering suggestions of oranges to try. Walked to the deli and asked a question about the sandwiches. The employee was helpful and quick to help. The bulk section was attractive and I was impressed with their bulk spices.
Spent some time in the produce department where I asked a question about how to tell if an Asian pear was ripe. A very helpful employee walked over to the pears and cut one open for me to try. It was delicious! Then he told me all about what farm the pears came from. So helpful and friendly. I was very impressed.
There was a sale table I came across which had products such as organic icing mix. I was shocked at how expensive the prices were… and they were suppose to be on sale?! I have to say… better prices on things like that at places like Natural Grocers.
I liked that they sell the Chinook book and have coupons for their own store included within. I picked one up there and I will be back to use the coupons inside.

This is a great little neighborhood business. I go here when I am out of something and I don’t want to hit Freddy’s, when I am looking for something gluten-​free, and when I am looking for something quick for dinner from their meat counter (which is great).
I have always had friendly service, but the cashiers can be a bit slow, sometimes. They are very helpful in the Supplements department.

Food Front is a small to medium size grocery catering to the healthy eater. Its strength is being in walking distance of the Hillsdale, Capitol Hill, Vermont-​Multnomah and Terwilliger Heights neighborhoods.
It has a small but well curated selection of produce. It’s larger than the NW Food Front location or Peoples, but lighter on produce. But better on organics, local and healthy than the massive Fred Meyer in he hood. Good selection of bulk and bulk spices. Buy your spices in bulk, seriously. And Food Front’s main source is Frontier. Good selection of coffee and tea, organic meats, a good wine selection, best in the extended neighborhood for healthy body products. Spot to eat deli items outside.
Great grocery with just about anything you need, especially healthy things. Your corner grocery grew up healthy!

I like having a co-​op in my neighborhood but I wish some of the cashiers were faster and more friendly. Some of them seem so put-​out when you want to use your ownership. I wish they would all ask if you’re an owner in case you forget to say something.

3.5 stars but rounding up. This «grocery» store was clean and neat, and the people who work there are super helpful and friendly. If you’re curious about whether the fruit is sweet or not, just ask them, and they’ll give you a sample on the spot! There’s also a good selection of locally produced goods, although some of the items can be on the pricey side. Food Front reminded me a lot of a smaller scale Whole Foods, but more of a neighborhood-​y type place. The parking was plentiful when we went at night.

It’s the only grocery store in Hillsdale — aren’t we lucky! It’s small but it has almost everything you need — and if they don’t have it, they get it. They are seriously responsive. They focus on local, healthy, but keep affordable options on the shelves as well. Super community minded. The best thing that could have happened was for the previous store to close and Food Front to open this store in the neighborhood.
Membership isn’t required, but if you shop big on the member discount weekends, you earn your small membership fee back in a weekend or two.

Sometimes it seems like there’s a Coop behind ever corner in Portland. While many metropolitan areas «make do» with Whole Foods, the Rose City has a plethora of choices for whatever organic, gluten-​free, etc. floats the local boat. My ex-​wife has been gluten-​free for over 20 years and I bet she couldn’t believe her good fortune when she moved here.
Food Front is a bit on the small side, but has a nice selection of whatever you might need. I was particularly impressed with the wine selection, the butcher counter, outside seating, and a healthy community vibe. And when you add this place to the nearby Hillsdale Farmer’s Market, that’s a winning combination.

I’m tired of going into this store and not seeing any discounts on the bulk items. I complain about stuff but never get an answer: as if they could care less!
I will continue to favor New Seasons for their bulk pricing!

This place does offer a nice selection of alternative foods for the vegan and gluten friendly people, but the cash register people have been consistently rude.
Because it’s a co-​op they ask you if you’re a member which is fine, what is NOT okay is that when I tell them I’m not a member I’ve been met with: «Oh well you should be a member» *SIGH*, or «Your loss» *SIGH*, or just plain *SIGH*.
I’m sorry I can’t afford to be a member of your little «co-​op», but I’m still forking over my damn money so you could be a little bit nicer about it! ugh!
