Communitecture is a full service design firm for commercial and residential projects, typically leading projects from the conceptual design stage through construction. We believe in making our services accessible to projects which push the envelope in terms of ecological design or community building.

Our work often includes public processes to involve communities in design and decision-​making for public place-​making projects and individual buildings. This process can often involve public presentations and educational workshops.

History

Established in 1998.

Communitecture began as a collaboration of designers & planners who wanted to create artful & sustainable projects in a dynamic and visionary atmosphere of friendship. The collaboration quickly became a design firm, undertaking numerous publicly-​driven and private commissions, including many civic collaborations with the non-​profit City Repair Project. Our work incorporates sculptural themes, historic sensitivity, ecological & permaculture design, and community gathering places.

Communitecture was established as a new idea in how to work with people, and as an office. We are successful with our guiding vision because we approach each challenge collaboratively, playing leading or supporting roles as each situation requires. We maintain professional standards for efficiency, creativity, and responsiveness, yet also enjoy an informal working atmosphere & flexible attitude in order to make each project’s process enjoyable. Our firm size ensures close attention to each project phase.
