Churros Locos

Freshly fried churros, rolled in cinnamon sugar, with whipped cream, chocolate and caramel sauce. Churro Heaven should be the name of this cart!

By all means, get the churro sundae. It’s like a vamp version of a typical ice cream sundae – the cinnamon sugar flecks in the vanilla ice cream from the churro gives the ice cream a flair of spice, plus the crackle of the churro dough when you dig into it is delightful. DELICIOUS. I didn’t add a star because the churro wasn’t fresh and was rather cold, so it didn’t have the piping hot taste that I love. Otherwise, so much better than Costco’s.

I got the three churro a for five dollar deal. The owner (a very sweet and funny woman) made them fresh for me. Today, you can find her at the Kenton street fair. Open till six, she’s there cranking out these tasty, fresh, fried then dipped in cinnamon and sugar treats. I bought these, then bought ice cream elsewhere to have with my churro. (Ended up with gelato). I don’t know if she could tell my friend was a bit of an airhead, or if she just loves making people laugh but, she turns to my friend and said,“I love to tell kids that you should sing your new churro happy birthday then blow on it like a big candle”.
Obviously my friend nodded and bit into it without thinking, burned her mouth and we all laughed our way into the sunset. Buy these churros, she makes them before your eyes and cares about wether or not you get a crazy burn in your mouth from the snack. Nom nom…

I’ve been around the country looking for the perfect churro, and I believe I have found it here. For $ 2, it’s a bargain. Fresh made. Just outside the MLS stadium in Portland, it’s always a short walk from where I’m going, and the people are really nice, too!

Churros Locos can usually be spotted at Portland Timbers and Thorns soccer games, as well as other events around Portland. I saw this cart at the Portland Summer Food Cart Festival in June.
Here, churros were $ 2. Add a dipping sauce for fifty cents more. Usually, there’s chocolate, caramel, dulce de leche, and strawberry options.
But hold the phone! A Churro Sundae? $ 4? Now that’s something I’ve never had before. Basically a scoop of ice cream to start. A churro is then cut into three pieces and placed on all sides. Some whipped cream, sprinkles, and choice of sauce later, it;s ready to go. I went with the strawberry topping.
I loved this churro because it had that wonderful crunch and a bunch of cinnamon-​sugar on the outside. The creamy vanilla ice cream pairs well with the cinnamon-​laced churro. I’m quite surprised I hadn’t thought of doing some type of churro sundae at my own place. Then again, I’d probably just have cinnamon and sugar all over the damn kitchen floor and I’d have to clean that all up.
I’d certainly want a bigger churro option if possible. Heck, I’d take a giant sundae as well.
This is a great place to stop if you want a churro!
