I come here often when I’m in the area. good dim, love their clay pot rice and their bbq meat is always good! it’s cheap, authentic and some really good comfort food. it may be a hole in the wall place, but I totally recommend. first time? dim sum: pork spare ribs, shumai, beef rice noodle rolls regular menu: frog legs clay pot rice, roasted pork and duck rice plate

Not bad… not bad at all… actually pretty dang good. This was my 2nd time here. 1st time was to try dim sum. Heard from a bird that this hole in the wall was just as good. They have a limited dim sum menu vs the cart fulls at larger asian joints. What they do have is on point. 2nd time was to try the wonton, egg noodle soup. I paired mine with roasted pork. Skin was still crispy even though it was sitting in soup. Gotta have that crunch if your gonna eat skin and errythang. While slurping down this goodness… out came a fresh roasted pork in all its glory. It nearly glistened as the butcher skillfully pierced through that crackling skin. The meat looked so tender juicy and the aromatics in the air. Cue… wipe drool. Of course I had to order some to go :)

The food here is actually four — or maybe even four and a half — star quality, but the service is atrocious. I was here for a quick bite while running errands in the area, and found the wonton and noodle soup delicious. It’s really too bad service was slow, rude and sloppy.

My bro went there and got so mad he refused to go again. Didn’t experience the same until today. Ask for a pound and quickly declares two pounds before I can verify and starts cutting. Lots of other places to go. I am looking elsewhere.

Rude rude rude service!!! We walked in and asked if they were open. All those workers looked mad and made a face so we walked out. I want to report them to news 12 to see if they are guilty of dirty dining.

I got to go orders. Low quality BBQ and roast pork. The chef looks mad and don’t want to be bothered. They over charge by weight so watch out. They don’t clean knife after each order so your roast pork tast just like the roasted duck if that is what you looking for. The cut on the roast pork was in chunks. were rough, its very bad service. :( Looks at the roast pork. The skin is worst than chewing on plastic. Stay away before you regret. The skin should be crunchy and not as hard as piece of rubber.

My sister and I were craving for a noodle soup and congee upon our return from our vacation. We decided to try a new place and heard positive reviews about Best Taste. The service was ok, small restaurant with small staff tried to help other customers. We ordered wonton noodle soup and chicken congee. They were fresh and tasted good. We even took a variety of BBQ meats for our dinner that night. The meats were meaty, not so much of fat which I like. Will come back again and try their dim sum.

The food at Best Taste was fantastic! We had the BBQ pork, the soy sauce chicken, the duck, fried rice and the pork buns. Everything was flavorful and delicious. The server was nice and attentive. He kept our water filled and brought additional tea and napkins. We had no idea how to eat everything, but it was a fun adventure. We would definitely go again if we lived in Portland!

In this town, you can get amazing Thai, Korean, Vietnamese, and Japanese but Chinese food(or at least Chinese food as I know it from the east coast) is mostly nonexistent. In fact, other than three places, it isn’t that good. Thankfully, Best Taste, is one of the good ones. My brother introduced me to Best Taste and since I now live in walking distance from them, I can enjoy it even more and try more items. I’ve eaten there twice and the roast duck and pork are incredible and the beef in oyster sauce is also really good. With the addition of bamboo shoots it is basically beef with scallions or Mongolian beef. It’s good. They also do dim sum which I’m told is good, hopefully I’ll try it soon. The folks that work there are very nice. Best Taste is very small so it’s probably not good for huge groups but the food is worth a trip down to the Jade District. Enjoy.

**review for bbq only** Bottom line: great Chinese bbq in a town with not much of it to offer. Chicken feet is $ 5 a box for perfectly cooked«white water» chicken feet(not your typical braised) served with a side of chili oil — a special and rare treat. The pork is fatty and marbled, kicking the ass of leaner, dryer bbq pork I’ve had here. It is also $ 8 a lb and I picked up ¾ of a lb or so for $ 6. My mom asked me to do some recon at this strip mall here. There’s Best Taste and two Chinese grocery stores. After I was done looking at the groceries, I poked my head into best taste because I wanted to check out the bbq display. I wasn’t planning on buying anything, but as a few people mentioned, the smell is knock your socks off good and I was instantly sold in some pork. The hanging ducks looked juicy and delicious. The pork is really good. They don’t skimp on the sauce they coat the pork with so it’s really flavorful, tender and still kind of sticky and wet as opposed to the kind of old, dry feeling char siu pieces you may have had before. *just a quick edit here, the menu states that this is a honey bbq pork which explains the stickiness and caramelization of the pork after barbecuing. The fat marbled in the meat really helped that too. When we made char siu at home it was really saucy like that, and I’ve always preferred it. I noted after I left some poor reviews, but they all seem older. I agree with the newer reviews that this is a place more people might want to check out, at least for the bbq. The price is great and it’s surprisingly spot on bbq. I saw another reviewer’s photos of wontons and bbq and that looks great. I definitely want to come back and try that. They also have dim sum and some more of my favorite Cantonese dishes, so perhaps I will update after I try some more of their restaurant items later. Lastly, the people were really helpful! Surprisingly excellent establishment that deserves more recognition than it has.

Tiny, funky, I’m usually the only non-Asian. roasted ducks, chickens & pig parts hanging in a hot case, plastic bags of chicken feet in a box on the floor. Have only tried a bit of their menu. very good porck shu mai & some other limited dim sum options. Had the won ton soup with duck, 10 – 12 good sized wontons. next time i’ll just get a plate of duck to go. You can buy fried rice by the pound!

This place looks like a place you might avoid from the outside but it’s well worth the trip. It’s not a fancy restaurant experience but I think it’s the best, most authentic Chinese food in Portland. They have delicious dim sum early. I like the hum bao and shrimp dumplings the most. The Singapore noodles are a must try. Almost everything I’ve had is fantastic and reasonably priced. The only thing I don’t think they do great is soup. It’s not bad but there are better options elsewhere. Overall very worthy of your attention.

When it comes to down to genuine and authentic this is the spot! This place is my absolute favorite BBQ and dumpling spot.

Please be careful eating at Best Taste Chinese Restaurant. I got food poisoning on May 9, 2013, after eating one of the meat-filled mochi flour buns and a few bites of BBQ pork from this establishment. Both foods were sitting or hanging in the glass display cases and it was late in the day. We were visiting from Seattle and like to eat at less fancy asian restaurants. Four adults and one kid ate exactly the same food on these days of our visit, the one exception being me, who ate the above. So, I am 100% sure this is where the food poisoning came from. Needless to say, it was a a slow and messy drive back to Seattle the next day. I will spare you the details… My stomach churns, thinking of this place. Ew.

This may be a decent place to buy Chinese BBQ or Soup, but the Dim Sum is way sub par. Look at the pictures here on Unilocal and check out the filthy steam containers. The quality of the Dim Sum is really lacking… yes, it’s home made and not the frozen box type, but you really have to be in the right mood to eat it. It’s very backwoods style and odd tasting Dim Sum. Not much variety either. The other thing I would mention is the guy behind the counter, he’s very snarky… he also needs to clean his hands and fingernails!!!

This is one of my favorites places to go to. It’s a little shop next to the Chinese supermarket and across the street from Hung Far Low(he he). A nice little eattery joint which is pretty small compared to other places on 82nd. They have roasted duck, and pork as well as won ton soups and other Chinese dishes. I love their Salty Fish fried rice,(Ham yee chow fan). It’s not too salty but the lettuce that’s cooked in makes the rice have more moisture. Love it! The wife orders it all the time when we’re here. They also have dim sum there, so if you want a little dim sum without the wait, you might be able to squeeze here if it’s not too busy.

It is a travesty that this place does not have more reviews. I personally think it is the best Chinese food in Portland. Hands down. Definitely the best roasted duck you will find in Portland. There is no doubt about that. Friendly service and very inexpensive(most Chinese food is). The parking lot still sucks, but you aren’t there to spend any time in the parking lot so who cares? I don’t. Sign me up for more of that good good food.

I love this place and have been frequenting it for a couple of years and will keep frequenting it. Pro: Good service. The server(still IDK his name, he’s been serving us for as long as I can remember) is awesome and friendly. Great price for the food. Awesome quick dim sum. Our fave is the black bean chicken feet. So very good. Great roast duck. Con: Some waiting time(esp. during busy lunch hour). But when there’s no one, you’re golden. Atmosphere is definitely an after thought.(P.S. I’m not referring to the hanging duck and pork, I’m used to those display, growing up and frequenting the markets). No ambiance(of course), and it’s pretty small place. From time to time depending on the dish I order, it can flare up my heartburn: p But the taste of the food kind of makes it worth it :)

Good tea. We ran down all 19 items on the dim sum menu, and that was fun. Even the steamed chicken feet looked good, though I didn’t get to taste it because my companions snapped them all up. It’s order-off-the-menu dim sum, but they had everything pretty much ready to go, so dishes came out very quick. I think I like the carts-going-by-your-table style better for the oh-man-what’s-that-I-have-to-try-it novelty factor, but Best Taste was a good experience overall. Very cheap for what we got. Before I went, I read Unilocal reviews and heard the roast duck is awesome. And though we didn’t have room for it this time, while we were sitting there, they must have sold 8 – 9 roast ducks for takeout. They were hangin’ out in a hot meat case right by my chair, so I kept looking at their delicious crispy skin. I quite liked their tea, which was some variety of black, and quite nice for restaurant tea. They managed to seat our group of 10 despite the small size of the restaurant, and we had a great time.

Best Taste doesn’t offer the best tasting dim sum, porridge, or Chinese BBQ in Portland, at least in my opinion. It’s a decent place to stop by if you’re in the neighborhood, but it’s not worth going out of your way for. The server/owner(?) lady is very friendly and cheery, but service here is still… typical of a Chinese restaurant. The restaurant is small; probably can seat around 30 people. It’s usually slow, so there shouldn’t be any trouble finding a seat. Don’t be surprised to find a few dirty chopsticks or cups here, and check the table before you rest your arms or elbows on it. Décor is typical. Audible old-school, American music plays in the background. Lastly, you will smell like delicious Chinese BBQ(and grease) when you leave. Their dim sum is fresh and has good flavor, but it’s not up to par. The filling in their Siu Mai(pork dumpling) is rather dry and rough. The wrapping for their Ha Gow(shrimp dumpling) is too thick and goo-ee and the filling is rough and falls apart easily. The Spareribs in Black Bean sauce has good flavor but the spareribs are way too fatty. The porridge is abnormally thick; like you know it’s not from the rice… almost like they used some kind of thickening additive. The crepes in the Shrimp Rice Rolls/Crepes were thick and hard. It wasn’t like a brick, of course; just didn’t have any of the smooth gumminess. There was very little shrimp and they were dry and rough. Almost everything was on the dry/rough side despite everything came out steaming hot. The Chicken Feet was probably the only thing that pass. Deep flavors and the skin/flesh slips right off the bones. Personally, I’ve never tried their Chinese BBQ; they sure smell delicious though. My cousin bought two whole Onion and Oil Chicken(chong yao gai) from here and she said they were spoiled. Yikes!
