Beijing Hot Pot

Wait about 30 minutes for nothing, the only sentence from the waiter is wait a minute please. Then serve food to the next customer first, never ever come here again. Writing this when I am almost starving…

The food is fresh, especially the leek dumplings and hand made noodles. However, the service needs to be improved.
Ps: we found a hair inside of the fried dumplings…

It was 非常好 fēicháng 好 ho (very good).
This was my first experience with Chinese Hot Pot. Ive enjoyed many other cultural cuisines so I feel I have a good pallet. We were in Portland visiting and typically we always go to our fav Pok Pok after our visit. My husband however wanted to try someplace different. We came here with some friends who are NOT expanded in cultural cuisines and worried they may not like it. However they were open to trying it. They loved it! Their 5 year old daughter who mainly eats chicken nuggets enjoyed the experience. Have you ever been to the Melting Pot?! Yeah, well Melting Pot broth meat cooking is horrific after coming here. The broth was very flavorful. We had the combo for two and added ribeye. It all was so good! So much food and the price… wow we ate like kings! So tip extra special for the staff, granted you cook your own food but the quality and price deserves a good tip. The atmosphere is limited but I feel like it doesn’t matter when u have good food. Wait staff was very patient and helpful with us. I look forward to putting this spot on our next visit to Portland.

This was my first hot pot experience. Wow it was super good. Spicy and regular broth were excellent. Good atmosphere and great service.

Slowest service ever. We got to the restaurant at 7:00 and didn’t receive service or food until after 7:30. However, the food was good – the pre-​set menu for both meat and veg options are reasonably priced at $ ²⁵⁄₂ people. Not sure if I would come back – so many other places in Portland have good food AND quicker service. No broth is added as it boils away. Definite local hole in the wall favourite.

Beijing Hot Pot has definitely become my go-​to hot pot restaurant in Portland. The prices are reasonable and more importantly, the flavors are authentic. The combination meal is always more than enough for me and my fiancé. It may not look like much food at first but trust me, you’ll be completely stuffed by the time you get to the noodles. While there aren’t as many choices in terms of sauces or vegetables/​meats, what they do have is pretty good in quality :)
I do hope they can fix up the interior of the restaurant as it is looking pretty run down. Not that aesthetics will deter me from going there and from what I can see, business is usually pretty good. Still, some repairs could really open up the restaurant and make it more inviting.

Enjoyed the place. Nice serving. I was so happy to find this place. Décor is very modest, and very low key too.

I love this place. My wife is vegan, I’m omni, we both leave happy. We get the vegetarian for two with veggie dumplings and rib eye for me. By the end of the meal the broth is so intensely mushroomy and beefy. The danger is that by the time you’re full, the soup is so good that you have to keep going. Friendly and fast service, i think the prices are a good value for the experience you receive. Currently my favorite hot pot in town.

This place is the best and most authentic hot pot place. The lady who runs the place always buys and prepares the freshest and tastiest ingredients. I tried everything on the menu and they all were perfect. I go here two times a week and love the place.

A hidden treasure. I am always taking new people here. The hot pot for two is enough to feed three people. They have a wide array of ingredients. Impressive assemblage of hot pot foods. Bonus eclairs at the end.

Decent price but lacks the selection of hot pot items that Chonqing Hot Pot has just around the corner. Chongqing is where I would go to find the more authentic experience.

Wondering why so many good reviews. We’ve been waiting here for one hour and half, the hot pot is definitely disappointing! The beef roll and lamp roll taste like napkin! Why? The meat is not fresh and textile is very loose, I don’t believe they are good quality.
Won’t visit it again. That’s it.

This place is amazing. It’s tucked out of the way near 82^nd and Division — so we had a little trouble finding it at first, but it was well worth the turn around to locate.
My boyfriend and I were the only one’s there, which was nice because we got excellent service, but strange because the place is SO DAMN GOOD!
We shared the Hot Pot for two, with regular broth on one side and spicy on the other. So much food. The broth is amazing, the bean curd sheets are to die for, and the dipping sauce is pure umami. The sliced pork — divine!
It is a lot of bang for your buck. The hot pot for two could easily feed three people with hearty appetites, and could be stretched to feed 4, if there was an appetizer was added.
This is my new favorite place and I intend to bring all out of town guests here for a meal and experience of a lifetime.

Just tried this place today. Super tasty. Everything seemed fresh and was plentiful. First time trying a hot pot meal so have nothing to compare it to but was good enough that I will go back. The chicken meatballs were so good! Yum yum yum!

Hot pot to soothe your soul. A decent deal for the amount of veggies/​meat you get.

I am from Beijing and I can tell you that this place is 100% authentic. The owner is from beijing, the restaurant is decorated with chinese themes. Its fun to just walk around and look at the photographs and paintings.
Both the spicy and non-​spicy boths were tasty. Meat and veggies were super fresh. There noodles are hand made and very good.
You can get a really really good meal for less than $ 20 per person. Definitely worth a visit.

I’ve shared the dinner for 2 with a few people here, and it’s a pretty good deal. However, Once I made the mistake of coming here during Chinese New Year and the place was a little overwhelmed to put it mildly. I don’t mind waiting, but the service was pretty bad and they forgot to give us bowls. Despite prompting, we never did get our bowls and we had to eat directly from the hot pot and we couldn’t drink the broth really. I also think that Chongqing Huo Guo nearby puts a little more effort into presentation of the meat and vegetables. That makes it feel more like a special occasion. I’m also a little more fond of the latter’s herbal broth and dumplings, but tastes will differ. I find the handmade dumplings where to be kind of doughy and not very artful. I understand they roll their wrappers out by hand, but to some, that might be a detriment rather than a plus. Making dumplings by hand used to be a family affair for us, with me, my mom and my grandmother. We ended up buying wonton wrappers because rolling out too thick of skin is a common problem that I think this place suffers from. That said, I think that is the nature of this hot pot place.
Beijing Hot Pot is really a fun and delicious place to go to. Beijing Hot Pot has more of a homestyle presentation than Chongqing Huo Guo. I also think that it has a more homestyle menu as the other has some «fancier» item menus like jellyfish and phoenix yolk buns. Beijing Hot Pot is like sitting down at your friend’s place for some handmade dumplings that they made with grandma (For better or for worse) with their hot pot. It’s comforting and delicious with all its little flaws. It feels more like home and a place for community and noodle slurping than a place that has refined all its rough edges. This hot pot place definitely is for bringing family and friends together as Beijing Hot Pot opens its kitchen to you.

This was my first time having hot pot style Asian cuisine. Hidden off 82^nd is a place that mirrors real Beijing home style cooking that is an eclectic expression of family and community.
Beijing hot pot is one of those places you watch on tv in travel shows. Don’t bother asking for a fork. And the waitress is in a hurry because she’s most likely cooking and serving.
This is not a «quick bite». This is a Thursday night chill spot with the homies. Or save this place for that girl you’ve been trying to impress. If hot pot won’t get her talking give up!
Getting use to the style of eating take a min or two for a first timer. After that it’s easy and delicious. Coming here on a snow day would be the best!

Mixed with authentic Chinese cuisine and traditional décor, Beijing hotpot will have you coming back for a second helping for sure! The inviting outside is complimented by a relaxing atmosphere on the interior. The spicy broth with delicious lamb balls are perfect enough to warm a cold soul. Beijing hotpot gets a solid four star for me.

Beijing Hot Pot may not serve the best Huoguo I’ve had, but I’m glad it is here in Portland … because getting a round trip flight to Beijing and back is an expensive hassle.
Olivia Z. and me satisfied our burning desire for some Chinese comfort food with a split pot of regular broth and spicy broth. The «spicy» isn’t spicy at all, but it was still better than none. Then came a parade of meat, veggies, and noodles.

We also added an order of the home-​made Beijing Dumplings ($ 5.95) that were especially savory. I’ll definitely get them again. The complimentary Cream Puffs for dessert aren’t good at all. Let someone eat your share while you focus on the mushrooms or meat.
Hot pot (Huoguo in Mandarin) is, and always will be, my favorite food … in all its varieties: Beijing-​style, Chongqing-​style, Cantonese-​style, Japanese nabemono (including shabu shabu and sukiyaki), Vietnames lau, or Thai suki. Finding Beijing Hot Pot on SE 82^nd Ave serving Beijing-​style hot pot allows me to find culinary comfort without having to leave Portland. For that, I’m thankful.
