Anna Fritz offers private cello lessons in southeast Portland, Oregon. She specializes in adult beginners, but also works with kids and more advanced students. She has a strong focus on solid technique and a healthy ergonomic approach to the instrument. She is happy to tailor her curriculum to the individual student’s learning style and the kind of music they want to play.
Anna is also available for recording sessions and live performances.
History
Established in 2000.
Anna has maintained a studio of private students on Hawthorne Blvd. for the last seven years. In 2014, she began offering occasional chamber music classes for students within her studio to gain experience playing with other cellists. She also provides periodic performance opportunities for students who are interested and willing to share what they’re learning with each other and their communities.
As a studio artist, Anna’s cello work has been featured on more than 50 albums by bands such as The Decemberists, My Morning Jacket (not yet released), Dirty Projectors, The Builders and The Butchers, and Blue Cranes.
She is a founding member of the Portland Cello Project and has spent seven years as a touring member of the group, sharing stages nationally with the Dandy Warhols, Andrew Bird, Garrison Keillor (on Prairie Home Companion), Mirah, Horse Feathers, Laura Gibson, Thao with the Get Down Stay Down, and many others.

Business Owner
Anna has been playing the cello for nearly 30 years. She received her classical training in Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin, culminating with instruction from Professor Uri Vardi, student of Janos Starker. Since then, Anna has performed and recorded with numerous bands and artists of many genres. She has recorded two solo albums as a cellist and folksinger and has spent seven years touring extensively with Portland Cello Project.
