If you’re looking for the best waxer in Center City, Anthony is it. He’s absolutely top notch. He’s professional, knowledgeable and a delight to talk to. I’ve never looked forward to these kinds of appointments, but with him it’s a different story. Also, the products he uses are wonderful! I never leave feeling yucky.

I recently got my first haircut at this location. My stylist was Lauren A, who I believe is one of their newer stylists. I often feel super awkward when I get my hair cut because there’s all types of weird small talk and I feel guilty for asking for what I want. Plus I sometimes feel like stylists don’t take me seriously when I tell them that a) I like the messy look and b) I rarely blow dry my hair. I didn’t feel this way with Lauren at all. I got a short cut and it is very sharp looking. It works well with my natural wavy texture and she really listened when I said that I usually don’t blow dry my hair. I’ve been to a few stylists who have great pictures of flowing long hair online, but then fumble a bit when I want a short, more angular, messy look. I saw in her page that she had a variety of haircuts pictured. Her cuts are very versatile — coming from someone who leans a little more «alt» in their personal styling than a general consumer might. Plus the products they used smelled great (vs overly salon-​chemical) and I didn’t feel pressured to buy any additional services or products.

After searching around for a new hair stylists, I found Josh Demarco at this salon. Since my hair is getting longer, I needed to find someone who could style it so I ditched my barber.
The first time I came here, I was very impressed with the atmosphere and It’s a lot bigger than it looks online.
I made an appointment which I recommend and Josh took me right away, I did not have to wait. He was professional and friendly.
He pointed out what I needed to do in the long run to achieve the look I wanted but he still made me look good when I left. He wasn’t pushy about selling products. He was personable. And most importantly, he’s good at what he does!
If you’re a guy and looking for someone to give you a good cut, he’s the one.
Btw, I get a fade with clippers on the side and a slick back on top. Basically an undercut.

This is my favorite salon. Everyone is friendly and accommodating. Versatile stylists and staff that range from the trendiest cuts to just what will work for you lifestyle. I wouldn’t go anywhere else for my color or cut! Everyone I recommend the Jason Matthew Salon to becomes a regular.

It’s been almost 5 months since my «worst haircut ever» that I received at this salon. I’ve had 2 cuts since at another salon to try to «rescue» this haircut. Everyone’s comment about the cut I received here was along the lines of «did you get this done at a beauty school» or «did you do this yourself». I think in 3 more months my hair will be normal again. There is nothing worse than a bad haircut if you are a working professional and depend to some degree on having a polished look.
This salon offered me a refund and when I called (twice) to talk to the office manager about it both times I was told that the manager had just stepped away from her desk. I.e. the salon had no intention of ever giving me a refund on the bad haircut. Not that that would help grow my hair back, but it should have been the least they could do to ease the pain.
I was beyond disappointed with this salon. Obviously, I will never go back and I hope that I prevent others from using this salon before they also make a huge mistake and have to suffer, as I have, for 9 months with a «transitional rescue haircut» If you want a choppy mullet cut, this salon is for you. If not, stay far, far away!

I first came to Jason Matthew salon a few years ago and saw Joyce. She introduced me to the Ouidad curly hair products and taught me exactly how to use them. I will never, ever go to anyone else or any other salon for my hair. I give her all the credit for my curls being healthy. I’ve never been happier with my hair! She also does an awesome job coloring my hair. I’m a natural brunette, but I get it highlighted blonde and everyone thinks it’s my natural color. Joyce truly cares about her clients and her work. The rest of the staff are great as well from the receptionists to assistants. Hands down, best salon!

Love Jason Matthew Salon! Everyone at the salon is friendly and you won’t find the snobbery that usually comes with a Rittenhouse salon. I highly recommend Jessica — she is a color expert!

Anthony’s microdermabrasion is great. I had never had one and was worried it would be harsh on my skin considering I am in my 20s but he did a fantastic job. I’ve had many acne scars and like he says, it will lighten them about 20% and it definitely did! I come here about once every 2 months for the service and am definitely not disappointed

Lauren is an AMAZING stylist. I was referenced by a friend and texted her the night before; she scheduled me for a 3:30 pm appointment (⁵⁄₂₆). Coming in I had these extremely messed up highlights I got the previous Friday and I wanted that mistake fixed asap.
She is extremely patient, and we spent half an hour discussing hair options and the process behind it. I wanted to go several shades lighter, but she explained why it couldn’t happen without bleaching my entire hair. Lauren is genuine, and not like stylists at other salons who try to up sell you. I told her I wanted something that was low maintenance, and budget friendly. I opted for an ombré so I still got the color I wanted and the mess fixed. She got me in and out of the salon within two hours, while even giving me a complimentary blow dry and curled my hair.
Before leaving the salon, she gave me a few samples for several products and gave me advice on how to take care of this hairstyle. After a long journey, I found my stylist.

Anthony is the BEST waxer in Philly! Seriously, I was a life long shaver and had never treated myself to a Brazilan or professional waxing experience of any kind… now I have no idea why I ever waited so long.
Upon the advice of my girlfriends, I finally decided it was time to try waxing, and trust me, being Italian/​Mexican I was scared of the pain… I told Anthony I’d never been waxed before and he kindly gave me a pillow to squeeze throughout the session. He’s so quick that, while it hurts, he gets you in and out in 10 minutes flat — not enough time for your pain sensors to truly understand what happened. Some Unilocalers may be looking for the entire spa experience and be inclined to pay $ 60 for a 45 Brazilian wax, me? I’m all about efficiency and minimizing the amount of time wax and waxing strips are adhered to my private regions. If you’ve never tried before, go to Anthony — he’s awesome and after a few sessions it’s less painful because the growth comes in thinner… ok enough details.
Anthony is also great at eyelash tinting — I’ve had the black and the blue black tint (which he recommended because I have blue eyes) and both lasted for 3 – 4 weeks and looked amazing. Honestly ladies, not sure what you’re waiting for if you haven’t had your eyelashes tinted before, who doens’t want to wake up and look «done»?!?
Needless to say, if you need to find an efficient waxer and eyelash tinter, look no further than Anthony at Jason Matthew Salon.

I am between Miami and Philadelphia. Let me tell you, I bypass all of south beach to wait to see Jen B over here at Jason Matthew. I had been recommended to see her through a few people in a very interesting way actually. I had noticed 3 different females with various cuts and colors in the past which I had admired. The crazy part? All 3 told me they go to Jen over at Jason Matthew. This had to be a sign right? I am very anal about my hair and loyal to my colorists, stylists, and even blow dry gurus. I wanted to check her out. I have been blonding my hair for years upon years and also had extensions many times as well. Anyway, my first appt with Jen was great, on time, listened to my ideas and consulted me about my blonde. I wanted to go lighter but didn’t want to end up platinum or have a brassy color. She cut, colored, and blew out my hair making me feel fabulous. She is an artist. You can tell she isn’t in it for the «job» this is her life. She lives, breathes, and eats (idk how healthy that is) hair. She made my blow out bounce with volume and sheer sexiness all week. When I got back to Miami EVERYONE wanted to know where to go for my color, who blew me out and who cut me. Typically I would name three people but nope JEN IS YOUR GIRL. I have multi dimensional blondes and I am so obsessed. I just went back this week for a touch up and the compliments won’t stop coming! My hair is so healthy now and growing fast. Seriously you must make an appt with her.

Worst haircut ever. It will take me six months or more to grow out this disaster. On top of that the colorist/​assistant put color all over my highlights that I just got four weeks ago and the color is now mousey. Will never go back again.

I love Jason Matthew Salon. My stylist, Doug, was awesome! They were able to accommodate me right away without an appointment. The staff was friendly and helpful. They give you coffee or tea and a pretzel.

Best place in the city to get your hair done! Jen B works miracles on my hair every time. I absolutely love this place and will not go anywhere else. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I moved to Harrisburg and still come into the city to come here. Definitely come and check it out. Awesome place.

I know giving 5 stars can be interpreted in a million different ways by people with some thinking that this place is rated to be beyond perfectio, but for me, jason Matthews has always been one of the best salon experiences in philly, which always deserves 5 stars.
Jill has been great. She did keratin treatment for me a little over 2 months ago and that did wonders to my hair. I have extremely dry and frizzy hair and nothing has ever worked before, so this was definitely am amazing result.
today I am back for another keratin and hoping to have an amazing result again.

So, here’s an update on why I changed my star rating. About ten days after posting on Unilocal,I got a phone call from Renee, (I believe the front end manager). She asked me about my experience and was very concerned about my dissatisfaction with my haircut. Our conversation was more that her trying to soothe a dissatisfied customer, she actually listened to my comments. She offered me many options to compensate for my poor experience. We finally settled on a solution and I was more than happy.
I would most definitely return to Jason Matthew Salon if I lived in the Phila area. Respecting and valuing a customer’s opinion is one of the most important aspects of a successful business. Every hairstylist can have a bad day, I get it. I am super impressed with the follow up and the commitment to customer satisfaction.

Today I had an appointment with Josh, I scheduled for a haircut but he was able to do a color too, wow, I feel awesome! I love my color and cut, I feel better than I have with a style for such a long time! I love this rich dark chocolate brown color and the cut is great too. I am so happy because I’ve been searching for a great stylist for quite some time and I am thrilled to have found a great salon and an awesome stylist, Josh!
I’m moving to Philly in June and now I have a place to get my hair done. He is very sweet and reassuring, it was probably obvious that I was apprehensive. Everyone there is so friendly and how cool is it that they know Nick Arrojo! I am thrilled to have an awesome new style! I love my hair, so soft and I feel great! I was serious when I told Josh he’s a genius!!!

Finding a new stylist after moving is such a hassle, and I’m lucky I found Josh at Jason Matthew Salon. I have fine medium-​long hair, and it is hard to find someone who doesn’t want to add too many layers or cut a blunt edge. Josh was quick and accommodating– gave me a perfect cut in 45 minutes on a Monday morning. I’ve received several compliments!
I also love that even as they are reasonably priced, they don’t incessantly attempt to upsell you with products. Conversation was great, easy, and I left with a huge smile on my face.

Big kudos to this salon for being able to accommodate me on such short notice. Josh spent a fair amount of time on me helping me change my brown hair with blonde highlights to something «sleek and shiny,» a lot bolder and more daring. «I’ve been going to the same stylist for the past three years and feel it’s time for a change,» I told him. He agreed that change is good. As this was my first time with him, I studied his actions carefully and, except for one point when it was busy, he really put his all into working with me. I could tell by the way he cut my hair that he really enjoys what he’s doing and has a passion for it. My previous stylist at another salon sometimes left me with a feeling of disconnectedness, like she really didn’t want to be there. Not so with Josh. He was communicating with me every step of the way.
This salon is a huge upgrade for me. My previous salon used to be nicer than it is now, but downgraded its interior space because the owner cheaped out to maintain its prices, so I was very pleased with the way Jason Matthew Salon looked and felt (and I’ve been to quite a few, since my ex was a stylist at several of the top salons in the Philly burbs). The large front window offers a gorgeous, scenic view of Chestnut Street where Di Bruno Brothers and several nice shops beacon from across the street. I was originally put off by the salon’s second-​floor entrance, but quickly became a convert when I saw the view. A second-​story salon with a view is the ultimate environment to get your hair cut in downtown Philly. It feels a lot like New York City, my hometown.
