Di Bruno Bros.

This place is fantastic. There is so much to get and there are so many things that attracts one eye. I have been a couple times and enjoyed both experience. Yes, experiences. I have made my trips to this grocer just that by exploring the store and tasting this, that and the other. On my most recent visit I purchased a few items, but the stand outs were a Iberico Charcuterie Ham which was divine, a loaf of bread and some cheeses. One is encouraged to try the cheeses and meats before purchasing them which is great. Trust me, you won’t feel cheated on any tastes because they give you a nice portion which is a true bite rather than a rabbit’s nibble. When it comes to cheese I very much enjoyed a wash rind Obuelet and the Montgomery Cheddar. The cheese mongers are knowledgeable and not only willing, but wanting to help as much as possible. The cheddar is great and probably one of my favorite ones. I would make sure to get a big chunk of this since it keeps so well. I can’t wait to go back and when I do I will be getting that Iberico Ham and Montgomery Cheddar. Maybe even some specialty chocolate or drinks too. Five stars without a doubt for this small market in itself.

I was going to go to Reading Terminal today, but in the interest of time, I stopped here to buy some fish and cheese. Yikes! It seems like everything is priced at 25.00 a pound! The fish is 2 – 3.00 a pound more then John Yi and the steaks are really really expensive. They also cut the steaks really thick so you have to buy more. It is a fun place to shop and I love their cheeses and I love the energy, but it is for the Rittenhouse Square folks.

Some of the greatest nothern italian comfort food I’ve ever loved outside of my grandma’s kitchen. Upstairs for lunch is A NECESSITY as a destination all its own, or if you are in the area for any other motive. For variety, I favor the entrée and salad bar to the right as you come up the steps. Yummy food, healthful (in case you so choose ;-), friendly staff and worth every cent.

This place is amazing. May I suggest to you some duck prosciutto? What about some really great olive oil? How about $ 100 per lb prosciutto? The bread… I mean… after slicing it up, how about snorting up the crumbs. because it”s practically cocaine in a good way. Take this place and mash it together with a high end wine store and I’ve got heaven.
I usually make suggestions in these reviews hoping for some of them to come to life. I see my suggestions as little Christmas wish lists… occasionally in the rare blue moon does a business run with it… and that is when I react like a child coming downstairs to see the Christmas trees surrounded by big freshly wrapped Christmas presents. It’s May 3^rd. It’s no where near Christmas. that said, my suggestion is I wish Di Brunos would open an Ardmore like store in Doylestown. or Newtown, or on Rt 1 in Princeton Junction. then they can have a wine store too over there in NJ. Either or, I love traveling down to the city to hit up my favorite store in the Philly-​Princeton area. Love these guys!

If I were rating Di Bruno Brothers for the variety of food, they would get 5 stars. Service would also get a 5. They pretty much have everything from specialty cheeses, meat, desserts, breads, coffee, etc. Everything is also really fresh so if you want something for a special occasion; go there! You can also get delish sandwiches and salads. Need dinner in a flash, you will look like a gourmet if you buy their prepared foods. You will find something unusual and potentially delicious every time you go there. That is the good news. Now for the reasons why you should curb your cravings for Di Bruno Brothers. The pastries are a major disappointment. We ordered up two cupcakes that looked yummy but tasted like I had bought them at a chain grocery store. Four bucks each; my bad! So inferior, we tossed them. Prices are off the scale here. Try $ 10 – 12 for a pint of soup and $ 10 – 12 for a sandwich. Cheeses are equally expensive and so is everything else. This is why it makes me sad when I go into this chain. If their prices were better, I would come in more often. I feel like I am buying dinner at a fancy restaurant rather than going to a specialty Italian gourmet shop when I wander up to the cashier. I guess you pay a premium for the convenience of having everything under one roof. Too bad.

One of my favorite places to buy food in Philadelphia. This location is large and offers a huge variety of high quality, sometimes hard-​to-​find items. They offer tons of prepared food items each day and also offer a section of prepared hot food for dinner. There is an upstairs café that is open during the lunch hours that offers a variety of sandwiches, salads, and other lunch entrees. They have an amazing cheese selection in the back and the cheesemongers can help guide you in your selection. They are very helpful and give samples! I highly recommend getting the fresh ricotta – I was never a huge ricotta fan until I had it from here and now I get it all the time.
I frequent the coffee bar which is located at the front of the store. They offer a big selection of different drinks and pastries. The coffee is very good here.
The prices are higher than elsewhere but I feel like the quality of the products they offer can justify it.
There is an entrance on Chestnut street and also one on 18^th street.

I had a birthday celebration at the 9^th St location after hours and it was AWESOME. Sam and Kyle were great to work with, they were so knowledgeable and accommodating. My friends and I all had a wonderful time and we thoroughly enjoyed everything we tasted. The fact that it’s BYO probably contributed to some extra purchases being made, haha. I can’t even tell you where to begin in this store, just try it all!

Can I just please move in here? Just a tiny corner for dog and I. We won’t be loud, I promise!
I can’t believe I’ve lived in SJ for 3 years and this was my *first* time ever stepping foot into a Di Bruno Bros. and I fell deeply in love. I was like a kid in a candy store. From the glorious meats and fish to the beautiful cheeses and crackers (hello Raincoast crisps!), and olive oils and vinegar to chocolates and cupcakes and I could go on forever!
Sure, this isn’t an every week kind of place, but I’m known for making a killer cheese plate and this place with definitely up my game.
The upstairs café was not open but I will be back to venture up there.

OUR MENU:
** La Colombe Draft Latte = (4.5) Very Good! If you’ve not had this, definitely recommend! It uses nitrogen to make it smooth (like Guinness), and the natural milk sugar provides some sweetness. It’s addictive!
* Chocolate Gift Box selection = (4) very good
* Pasta Salad = (4) very good
* Fresh Mozzarello Cheese = (3.75) Good
* Dill Pickle = (3.5) good
* Mississippi Chocolate Bar = (3.5) good & decadent
* Watermelon & Beet Juice = (3.25) pretty good
* Italian Hoagie = (3.25) pretty good, BUT since it was «premaid» the bread was stale/hard…would prefer they make them fresh…

The food is mostly excellent[*]. We visit Philadelphia pretty often and end up here every time.
However the sneaky ways in which they nickel and dime customers leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Example 1. I picked a few apples from a bin that said 1.99/lb. They rang it up at 5.99/lb. I asked and they said they must have been in a wrong bin. But they don’t even have a bin that says 5.99! (I did not buy the apples)
Example 2. Their coffee is awesome. They silently charge 50c more for almond milk (and this price isn’t even posted). I’m not going to go broke over 50c, but I’d prefer to be able to enjoy my food without needing to watch out for getting ripped off. Their posted prices are high enough.

I’ve been shopping here for years, and I can honestly say that they’ve earned their hyped reputation!
Clearly, they have a spectacular selection of cheeses, but even more, their staff is very knowledgeable about them. On occasion, I’ve gone up to the counter and described the characteristics I was looking for in a cheese, and they were able to point me to the perfect match.
Their prepared food and desserts do not disappoint. They have a lot of great pasta and veggie options, despite being known more for meat.
There is also a market which is a good place to grab fresh produce is you are already there. Surprisingly, the prices are not much higher than other markets in the area.
Speaking of prices, while many of their items seem high, I have never been disappointed. The quality justifies the price
They also have an upstairs café where you can sit and eat.

What’s not to love about this place? For a boutique grocery store, I would say that prices are just what I think they should be: a little higher than, say, Trader Joe’s, but nothing too out of the question for a random craving or a stop when passing by post-​workout (I tend to avoid this on my walk home for that reason). I love the stuff that comes from the pre-​made food section (where there’s someone behind the counter helping you) — everything that I’ve sampled has been really good! I’ve also been to an event (I think it was a cheese crawl) at their location closer to the Delaware and sample even more things and I thought everything that we tried was fabulous! I definitely like this spot — only reason I’m not giving five stars because it doesn’t have all my basic grocery needs for a price that I’m looking to pay (can’t make this my weekly shopping places)!

Honestly you can’t go wrong with DiBruno Bros. The food (both cooked and raw) are always fresh and delicious. They also have a ton of specialty items that you simply can’t find anywhere else nearby. However, I did have to take a star away for the cheese prices. Paid $ 27 for a pound of gouda which is insane. Otherwise, great market though.

This is an amazing gourmet food store, and a must visit. They have everything from prepared foods, cakes, breads, cheeses, a butcher counter, cured meats… you get it. The store is always bustling, and there is so much to look at. Yes, it is a little pricey, but you’re worth it!

Great store but pricey.
I love the selection and the great products this market has but the cost could be a little friendlier. The huge cheese selection is impressive especially since the employees will have you try samples of anything you want and more. You pay for great products and excellent customer service. If I was going to make a charcuterie platter this is the first place I would go.
Even the restaurant upstairs is pretty good. Also the events the have are great such as the cheese walk.
Recommendation: Gouda and Lava Nuts together (Ask them about it)

Ode to DiBruno’s. I’ve often said my dream occupation would be a cheese monger here.
Expensive, yes. But they are simply the best for fresh pasta and cheese. Their meat and fish counter is very good too.
Redding Terminal Market certainly offers quality on par with DiBruno’s but this lovely market in Rittenhouse is far less chaotic.
Their in-​store pre-​made dishes beat Whole Foods hands down any day. I should also note that I have been pleased with their catering.
They have a nice produce display too but it doesn’t stack up to the rest of their offerings. I usually go elsewhere for produce if I have the luxury of time to do so.

I am pretty OBSESSED with Di Bruno Bros. especially this location because it’s so big and roomy (much more spacious than the other locations) therefore I can wander in here to my hearts content or sit and read in the upstairs café.
Any of my friends could tell you. I am a loyal customer and am there as often as possible to buy something… sometimes I get meat from the butcher, cheese, bread, favorite pre-​prepared items and whatnot.
They are a bit pricey, but it is definitely worth it.
Their Aged Balsamic is to die for! If I could drink it, I would. I also am a big fan of their olive oil. I use it a lot as a finishing oil with pasta and garlic. A little bit goes a very long way for both the balsamic and the oil. If you are unsure of what to get, make sure you speak to someone who works there, they will let you sample and explain what you are getting and what to use it for!
I also LOVE their sandwiches and wraps. I have a serious thing for a great sandwich or wrap. I will say I really like all of their sandwiches/​wraps that I have tried, but my favorites so far are:
The Diavolo Wrap
The Italian Market
The Italian Hoagie
Turkey BLT Wrap
Prosciutto Rustico
Also, keep in mind, a few times I have gone in to grab something and they didn’t have what I wanted…(I was trying to stick to the healthier side of things that day) and a staff member made it for me while I waited and was super helpful in substituting one or two things that I wanted differently.
I am also in LOVE with their Pasta Carmella (hands down one thing I have to get every time I am there), they have great chicken or pork sausages, fantastic chicken masala, meatballs and lasagna… the list goes on. Honestly, I don’t think you can go wrong ordering anything here.
Their produce is super fresh and delicious. They also carry great gourmet band items as well as their house made brand items. I also love their cheese, it is something you have to get when you go here. You can taste before you buy and the staff is always happy to assist you in your selections!
The staff is always extremely helpful! They are always happy to make suggestions, give cooking tips, and they always let you taste something before you buy it (which is awesome when buying an expensive cheese which I ALWAYS buy cheese when I am here). Everyone you speak to here knows what they are talking about and are willing to assist. The staff is so knowledgeable and friendly, its like they’ve known you for a long time and want you to have the best experience at the store that you could possibly have.
Absolutely a place to try if you haven’t and certainly a place to go back to again and again!

I literally just got back from a eatfest all over Rittenhouse Square, with Di Bruno being my first stop. I was able to park myself in a garage on 16^th and Chestnut, but mind you, it is super expensive to park there.
The downtown area is all sorts of buzzin with foot traffic, car traffic, everything kind of traffic. There are tons of boutiques and eateries all around so choosing a place to eat was a bit cumbersome. So I did what any foodie would do, I stopped at more than 1… or 2. or even 3 eateries within the hour.
Di Bruno was my first stop. This cheese and meat deli has everything, to go entrees with so many options, it’s a little mind boggling, charcuterie, raw meats, cheese and more cheese. Oh you know how I love my samples.
I didn’t want to sit and dine since I had other stops to conquer so I chose a few options off their to go and of course tried their samplings.
Nicely prepared food and what a gorgeous selection of everything. Loved Di Bruno and i imagine, they have something for every possible palate out there.

Wholly heck these paninis are ENORMOUS! And DELICIOUS! I came here (upstairs) for lunch and for $ 10 I got a huge Italian panini with a side salad. The sandwich was easily big enough for 2 lunches, which at $ 5 per lunch makes this quite the deal! They put plenty of meat on the sandwich and it came out quickly, even with the busy lunch crowd.
I’ve walked around the other parts of the store and they seem great. You can’t really compare this place to the Italian Market version though, because the one on 9^th St doesn’t have all the prepared food, just the meat and cheese. It’s a great spot in the city and I am very happy to be working close by.

I almost stopping shopping at your store when you cut the size of your pre-​packaged salads and increased the price. Not a good look.
Then I go to get a piece of cooked salmon and get back to my office to notice the receipt says 15.99 for the salmon. 3.99 a lb I had 1.5lbs, not 15.99. I went back to your store and was told that the salmon is $ 15.99 per piece… really? Is your salmon special, cooked with truffles? I think not.
I can go to Marathon Grill get a larger piece of salmon and a huge salad for $ 11.50. And this is exactly what I will be doing from now on.
I can’t believe the prices at this place, just crazy! Fresh fruit, strawberries, and blueberries-​$ 6.99 a small container? I’m not cheap and spend a lot of $$$ on dinning out, Wholefoods shopping, but this place Is just ridiculously over priced for no reason at all.
I would think twice before shopping here.

Ein Besuch in diesem grandiosen, seit 1939 in der Chestnut St. ansässigen italienischen Gourmet-​Supermarkt ist eigentlich für jeden ordentlichen Foodie quasi vorgeschrieben.
Alleine schon wegen der gigantischen Käsetheke, an der man sprach– und fassungslos wie ein Kind vorm Weihnachtsbaum steht, während man sich durch die überwältigende Auswahl an Käsen aus aller Herren Länder durchprobiert. Z. B. Truffle Tremor, ein fantastischer, getrüffelter Ziegenweichkäse aus der prämierten Cypress Grove Käserei, oder frische Burrata — einfach, mit Pesto, oder auch mit weißen Trüffeln und Honig.
Vielleicht kommt man wegen der Fisch & Fleischabteilung, in der ich einem guten Batzen geräucherter Entenbrust einfach nicht widerstehen konnte; oder wegen der guten Auswahl an Pasta, sowohl trocken als auch frisch.
Oder man möchte verschiedene Sorten Räucherlachs oder Patés probieren. Vielleicht nimmt man ein paar Pralinen oder Törtchen mit.
Oder man möchte sich mit einem knusprigen Mandelcroissant und einem Espresso mit ordentlicher Crema das Treiben auf der Chestnut St. ansehen — einige wenige Tische laden dazu ein. Auch das Sonntagsbrunch ist hochbeliebt.
Di Bruno’s erfreut mit seinem hauseigenen Catering-​Service nicht nur glückliche Esser in Philadelphia, man kann mittlerweile auch in alle 50 Staaten liefern lassen.
Ich habe beim letzten Mal außer einigen Käsen & der geräucherten Entenbrust noch haus-​eingelegte Gurken mitgenommen. Sowas von knackig, knoblauchig und frisch. da hätte ich gleich ein paar Gläser mehr mitnehmen sollen.
