Pescadero Country Store

Great vegetarian pizza! Love the outdoor area with picnic tables (dog friendly). Caesar salad with salmon is a huge portion! Inside dining area has a great counter area and booths.

Delicious thin crust Pizza! fresh cheese and local ingredients. loved the artichoke pizza with feta and basil. Haven’t tried any other food items. firewood oven, outdoor seating (dog friendly), spacious indoor seating. perfect spot for lunch or take out to the nearby beach.

The store situate right at the center of downtown. It looks like a general store from the outside, but inside is another hidden gem in Pescadero. Pescadero is surrounded by local farms, thus the general store does sell farm fresh groceries. But this country store sells more than that. It features a bar with several local beers on tap. It has a restaurant, it features wood stove pizza, also worth checking their specials of the day. You can also bring your dogs to the picnic area, right next to the store. Great pizza, great beer, ummmm good time!

Some people will hate me for saying this but… we found Pescadero to be a bit overrated. We heard it was the «Bolinas of the South Bay» and made the trip inland from the coast to check it out. After about 20 mins of exploring the entire one-​horse town, we were like… Ok! That was anticlimactic. Guess we might as well get some lunch while we’re here.
There are about 4 decent lunch options in Pescadero, and we were drawn to the Country Store because of their lovely outdoor picnic area, and more seating inside. There’s even a little beer bar within the Store, if you just want to drink.
Food-​wise, it was delicious! Lots of farm-​freshness. Pizza, salads, and fish & chips were popular items. Order at the counter, and they’ll bring you your food. But, on busy days (any weekend) it will take a LONG time to get fed. Our pizza took over an hour, and they wouldn’t bring our salad out any earlier, because they prepare everything in order. So, even if it only takes a second to scoop your soup into a bowl, you’ll have to wait until all the other orders ahead of you are made.
Despite the extended wait, the pizza was wonderful, thin crust, wood-​fired, generous toppings. And the staff was busting their butts to keep things moving. Though, driving to Pescadero for pizza sounds a little crazy, doesn’t it?

I love this place! Good food and a nice environment. It wasn’t what I expected when I walked through the door. I’m so happy I stopped and ate here. The owner is really friendly and nice too.

Pretty cool spot! We randomly found this place driving through and decided to stop. Super cute inside and local brew on tap. I got fish and chips and it was really good (I’m picky). My friend got fish tacos and no complaints. Calamari app is good too. Pizza looked delicious and they have a cool tiled wood burning stove for the pizzas. If I’m ever in he area again I may stop by.

I’ve been here quite a few times. It’s nice to have a pizza place in this cute little town but the quality of food is below par.
Yes, they have a legit pizza oven that burns woods, but they really need to pay more attention to the toppings. I’m not sure how they prepared the pizza, but more than once I’ve gotten pizzas where the crust is burnt, the pepperonis are dried out, while the mushrooms and onions are pretty much raw.
I’m also not a fan of paper plates. With such nice oven and interiors, and foods pricing at ~$ 13 – 18 per entrée, couldn’t we get some normal serving plates?
Also tried their fish and chips once. Tasted pretty bland.

This is where I find myself the most now when having a meal in town. I love coming in here to get a great thin crust pizza baked in the piece of art that doubles as the pizza oven, enjoy a glass of wine and visit with locals as they come and go. The grilled salmon Caesar salad is fantastic and is a very generous portion of super fresh salmon. The soups are always really flavorful as well. My husband’s burger and fries were excellent, and it’s nice to know the beef came from just up the road and grazed on the local hills. One of these days I have to try out the breakfast, but I’m usually off to work before they’re open. Consistently good fare in nice surroundings, inside or out.

On a weekend day trip to the coast, we generally stop at this place with our toddler who enjoys hanging out in the grassy picnic area to the side of the building. We’ve had breakfast and lunch here and both are tasty. I’ve enjoyed the breakfast quesadilla and the pizza (vegetarian) — wood fired with a nice thin crispy crust and lots of fresh veggies. It’s nice that there is a general store and a bar in the same building, so you can get everything you need in one place — a glass of wine with that pizza, a carton of milk for the little one. This is the ‘slow coast’ folks, so service is friendly, but at a more relaxed pace than what people are used to over the hill. So for you city slickers, just relax and enjoy — sip some craft beer or good coastal wine while you’re waiting for that pizza and breathe deeply.

Service could not have been more friendly. Our deep fried brussels sprouts were ridiculously tasty. The sweet man who took our order also kept up with multiple orders cooking in the pizza oven. It all came out beautifully and I just wished I were hungry enough to try more of the amazing things coming out of that kitchen. We’ll be back next time we can make it that far afield.

For being only a block long, the main street of Pescadero has more than its fair share of gems, this Country Store being one of them. After a day of tide pooling at nearby Bean Hollow, visiting Ano Nuevo or coastal hikes, the Pescadero Country Store is a wonderfully comforting oasis. They feature a small general store which sells everything from local produce, organic local honey, a variety of snacks & baked goods and a plethora of beverages. Most importantly, though, is the dei/​pizza counter with a well rounded menu of sandwiches, salads, quiche and honest to gosh wood fired pizzas. I’ve had the chance to try a fresh made deli sandwich (avocado veggie on whole wheat roll-​so good!) and their vegetarian pizza. The pizza is large enough to share and they were very accomodating with removing ingredients or substituting red sauce for their white sauce when asked.
Friendly service and down to earth location. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and a great stop before the long drive home back ot the East Bay. Excellent experience all around with fair prices and a combination of healthy/​comfort food.

Received a pretty sad 2 scoop cone from here for the princely sum of $ 5.50. It was like a slightly small single scoop but the guy behind the counter insisted it was 2-​scoops. It was the same size as the slightly less crappy 1 scoop that was on the same order.
Granted it’s one of the cooks that dispense the ice cream from behind the register counter & not a professional scooper, but maybe a 5-​minute training session on Cone Service is in order.

Stopped in for dinner tonight. Ordered the garlic pizza. Sat down and waited 35 minutes before I got up to see what was going on with our pizza. Turns out they lost the order ticket and never started the pizza. I told them to just give me a refund and I’m gonna go somewhere else. Would have been nice if they offered me a complimentary pizza as a apology for their mistake, but they didn’t. If they had I wouldn’t have written this bad review.

It was a beautiful day, but this side was a bit chilly cause of the beaches near by .
Anyways came here for lunch. There’s lots of people, bikers, there’s entertainments. I love their brick oven, the atmosphere was very chill relaxing, friendly staff as well ! Kid friendly, animal friendly place, all types of people here love it !
Okay again I came here for lunch, I order the vegetBle pizza. Deng I loved the crust is was crunchy yet. YET chewy just how I like em, every topping on it was fresh, the cheese, sauce, arugula to the mushrooms. OMG it’s been a while I ate pizza. Then of course gotta get my sweet potatoes fries, wish it was crunchy than soggy. Over all it’s just a good quick stop to eat after a long day of biking, or coming from the beach called Gregorio state beach .
Plus it’s a store, almost like farmers market, fresh fruits, food, beers, coffee, pastries. Real good stuff

Strangely for a place specializing in pizza with a wood fired pizza oven, the pizza was kinda undercooked and anemic.
That being said, the Artichoke and also the French Onion soup were excellent, as was the burger.
I would come back, but not for the pizza.

What’s not to love about this Country Store? There’s an open grassy to the right, set up with picnic tables for outdoor dining ($ 20 if you bring outside food), and when it’s a pretty day, you’ll want to take advantage of this!
The Tuna Melt was pretty standard, and we also ordered a breakfast quesadilla that was simple, but taken to the next level with some sour cream! We didn’t order a pizza, but it’s pretty cool to see their wood-​fire pizza oven, and handmade pizzas waiting to be ordered.
There’s a table in front of the store with honey and other fresh vegetables available, so it was nice to get some fresh fruits and veggies before we started our down in Pescadero. The wait staff was friendly and the place was clean. Cleanliness is key, and I didn’t find a problem with that. I will definitely be back to order a pizza though. They looked delicious!

I really give them 4 ½ stars! I’m thinking of giving them 5 stars! When I want to go on a lovely walk, and have the time to drive a bit further I sometimes drive to The Pescadero area. After a walk, nothing is better than a great sandwich while watching the waves lap on the shore.
I was pleasantly surprised when, a long time ago, I bit into the most delicious brisket sandwich I have ever had, from the Pescadero Country Store. At first they weren’t sure if they had any left, but they found enough to make a sandwich, which was so moist, flavorful and plentiful, I was a bit sad when I finished. God it was fantastic. If you love brisket, you know how often it is dry at restaurants. I went back another time, and had another sandwich, since they didn’t have brisket that day, it was good too; even though I can’t remember what it was!
Well, today I decided to tempt fate and get another sandwich, not brisket; as they only have it on Saturdays. Wow, did I luck out again. The fish sandwich, grilled cod, was plentiful, moist and nicely spiced. I was a touch worried, as fish sandwiches are often bland, especially for someone (me!) who doesn’t like mayo. Not only was the fish spiced nicely, just right, but the tomato was also delicious; not the usual light red cheap slice many places slip into a sandwich. The people here really know how to cook, not only meat, but fish too; better than some fine restaurants. They are also always really nice, helpful and know what they are doing. I can not wait until my next sandwich, I almost want to make up an excuse to go there.

Considering that Pescadero’s «downtown» is only about a block long, this restaurant pleasantly surprised me with its bright, open air feel and fresh menu.
Their brick oven takes front and center stage as the backdrop of their main bar. And in it, some of the freshest pizza you’ve ever had. It can’t be compared to the pizza in Italy but I would consider it to be garden fresh pizza. Thin crust, loaded with toppings, yet cooked just enough that the veggies still crunch when you bite into the pizza. I loved it.
If you like mac and cheese (if you don’t, you have no soul) you must try theirs. Three cheeses, topped with bread crumbs and baked. Totally worth un-​doing a day’s worth of work at the gym.
There’s also a really cute backyard area where you can enjoy your meal on picnic-​like communal tables.
Definitely an unexpected surprise in the sleepy little town of Pescadero!

We went driving on highway 1 to enjoy the ocean and beaches on our way, get food at the places that would be attractive, and see sunset when going back.
After climbing the rocks at the Pescadero state beach, we ended up turning to Pescadero.
While exploring their main street, we were attracted by a local band playing Elvis’s song in front of a spacious grassy area with picnic tables. This was the outside area of their famous Country Store.
Inside it had a few functional areas, bar, café with pizza oven and counter around it, and a small grocery store.
We liked the menu, and since we felt like we wouldn’t mind to have a bite, and the band was pretty good, we decided to stay for lunch.
We ordered, and sat at the counter and watched the game for some time and then saw the the guy starting to make our pizza.
While we sat there, multitude of flies were flying around landing on the pre made pizza dough circles and on the counter and everywhere else.
Meanwhile our cook placed the pizza dough circle in front of him and started to carefully examine the menu, pulling out ingredients and reading some more. Common, it was a roasted garlic pizza that only had 3 more ingredients there. It looked like he didn’t know what he was doing.
Then after some more reading, he started putting ingredients on the dough with his bare hands, no gloves. We saw it and, of course, my daughter recited «Pappy got sloppy».
Is it because we are so spoiled by the city, that we notice these things? Nevertheless, this and the flies and the persistent smell of fish… I didn’t feel like I want to eat anymore.
The food came. They forgot about my cappuccino.
1 star for service and hygiene.
4 for Food, it was really good.
Pizza had thin and crusty dough, it was very good. The French fries were crisp, not a bit soggy, burger was good. Can’t complain. I comforted myself that whatever dirt might have been on his hands, got disinfected in the oven.
They gave us all paper plates, here’s so much for being green. Even my cappuccino came in a paper cup although I enjoy it more in a normal one. However, with their hygiene, maybe it was a blessing.
4 for ambiance. It’s not your Top of the Mark, but it had enough to let you enjoy it as a rustic place in the middle of the farms.
Probably I will come again if I happen to be in Pescadero, but there are so many other places to eat as well!

I’m surprised an isolated town with a population of less than 650 people has motivated me to write my sixth review here. Gee, I’ve written six reviews about Pescadero and only three about Paris. So much for my globetrotting aspirations. The Pescadero Country Store is quite an eclectic operation for such a tiny hamlet. It looks like a country-​quaint supermarket when you approach it on Stage Road (photo:
), especially with a bevy of fresh produce out front including the renowned artichokes grown in the area (photo:
). The surprise, however, is that it houses a number of separate operations.
There’s a chic little cocktail lounge on the left, a mini-​grocery store next to it, a spacious café with an adobe wood-​fire pizza oven, and outdoors, quite an expanse of picnic grounds. It’s like Sam Drucker’s General Store has come back to life with a new-​jack swing. Do you remember Sam Drucker, my child? Green Acres. Petticoat Junction. Oh never mind. I came here on a lazy morning when I was looking for a little lunchtime nosh. While the pizza looked inviting, it was a tad too early in the morning to have one much less the fact that I didn’t have an appetite to gorge on one all by myself. No, I wasn’t depressed.
For some reason, the idea of a Tuna Melt appealed to me, a throwback to my childhood when I lived out a fantasy of living in a Campbell’s Soup commercial. For $ 7.50, I ordered one, and it came encased in two slices of slightly burnt sourdough bread with a slice of cheddar cheese in between (photo:
). It wasn’t outstanding, but it did give me that needed feeling of pre-​adolescent nostalgia. Of course, I had to have a bowl of soup to go with it, so I had their $ 7 Soup of the Day, which turned out to be (no surprise) Artichoke Cream (photo:
). Satisfying on a crisp morning. I’m sure Jamie W. and I will be back for the pizza, maybe for the barbecue when they have it, or a cocktail if we stick around for an overnighter.
FOOD — 4 stars… a tad pricey but the school lunch eats hit the spot in the middle of a small town

Ambiance far-​west garantie dans le tout petit village de Pescadero (ce n’est pas à Santa Cruz comme Qype m’a obligé à rentrer dans le formulaire, Pescadero n’étant pas sur leurs écrans radar).
Le Country Store fait supermarché, café, librairie, restaurant… Pour un bon burger authentique à 100 lieues des produits industriels et standardisés des McDonald’s et co. Par contre, leurs frites n’étaient pas exceptionnelles. Il y a aussi un four à pizzas.
On commande au bar et on va s’installer dans la salle en emmenant un numéro qui permettra à la serveuse de vous localiser pour vous apporter votre plat. Aux beaux jours, on peut aussi aller manger dans le jardin où se trouvent des tables de piqué-​nique.
