Description

Specialties

Owner and Winemaker Stephan Asseo is known for his unique blends of Rhone and Bordeaux varietals. Best known for his Optimus and Estate Cuvee blends, Stephan also crafts a Roussanne, Cote a Cote (his Rhone blend), and a Cabernet Sauvignon each year.

In Stephan’s own words, «the blended varieties are the cornerstone of our production… blending increases the authenticity and the complexity of the creation as a whole».

History

Established in 1998.

Created in 1998 by Stephan Asseo, L’Aventure is a small, family-owned winery located on the west side of Paso Robles on California’s Central Coast. After making wine in Bordeaux for seventeen years, Stephan wanted to create new wines representative of his Paso «terroir.» He is deeply involved in every detail, from pruning to bottling and has become known for his Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah blends, like the Optimus and the Estate Cuvee.

The L’Aventure tasting room is open Thursday through Sunday 11am to 4pm. Groups of 6 or more please call ahead to schedule an appointment

Meet the Business Owner

Stephan A.

Business Owner

Stephan Asseo has been in the wine industry for three decades. After he graduated oenology college in the Burgundy region of France in 1982, the Asseo family purchased their first property, Domaine de Courteillac, on the Right Bank of Bordeaux. Later, the family purchased additional properties: Château Robin and Château Fleur Cardinale (Saint-Emilion Grand Cru). With a unique style, Stephan raised those properties to a level of quality that brought him continuous accolades from the European press, travel guides and the Wine Spectator.

After 17 years in Bordeaux, Stephan wanted to expand his expertise while gaining more freedom in viticulture and vinification, which was the beginning of L’Aventure in Paso Robles. He began searching California for land. He was most impressed with the quality of the terroir of California wine country’s newest rising star: Paso Robles.
