Shortly after we moved to Altadena, my indoor cat somehow got outside and managed to hurt his leg. When it didn’t get better overnight, I knew it was something worse than a sprain, so I called around to find a vet who could help him. Thankfully Crown City was able to see him that same morning and there was no wait. They were really good with my cat, very caring and with good ‘bedside manner.’ Turned out the poor guy had broken his leg, so they put his leg in a cast and gave me some medicine.
Throughout the experience, I felt relieved that I found these guys. They showed me the estimate of what the costs were and it was pretty reasonable, and the final bill wasn’t bad either.
It sucks when your pet has an accident or gets sick, but I’m glad to know these guys are around.

We feel extremely blessed to live so close to such a caring and professional vet. Dr. Tyson and her whole staff are amazing! They took great care of our first girl Grepsie, and now we have Sophie who warms our hearts and makes us laugh thanks to Dr. T thinking of us for adoption.

This is an amazing vet office! They always treat my dog as if he’s their own. They know us by name and always make us feel welcome. Whenever there’s a health problem everything is thoroughly explained and I am given options to choose from. They don’t make me feel bad even though I can’t choose the best option because of its cost. They help me get the best care for my dog and that’s what matters. They all really care about pets here, but they also care about the owners, which makes them extra special!

Have been here 3 times because they are super close to my house and they do oral surgery. It’s very clean and nice staff. Dr Powell and Jason were very informative. Dr Tyson did my bostons oral surgery and he seems great, just a bit sleepy :(the only complain I have is I feel like they upsell but I suppose that is part of business. I’ll def be back. Good spot. Go team!

Feel it’s warranted to update my last review of this place. Since then, out of sheer
convenience, we had to go on two separate occasions for our dog then later our cat.
The dog, originally took him to another highly regarded vet. They couldn’t diagnosis him
and walked out w/​some meds and high bill. After a week, went back to CCVM w/​a new vet
and they figured out right away what kind of eye infection he had. Yes, still costly but Chief
was on the mend and happy again.
The cat. Holding back tears, last spring when our 13 yr old in/​outdoor tortie/​Siamese suddenly got lethargic and stopped eating, had to take her in. She was the warrior of her domain including the dogs in the house, so when she couldn’t scale the 6′ wall to greet me
one day, knew something was up. It was pancreatitis. No real cure, especially for her age.
We had one good/​painful week with her during which Dr Tyson personally called and explained
the blood results w/​me and options. That Saturday she so lovingly worked with us as we had to say good-​bye to our beloved Hannah. The care and consideration we got during this
made all the difference and helped ease our sadness.
Since then we took 2 more of the dogs in for dental work which resulted in numerous extractions that even we could tell was needed. Yes it was costly, but they were attentive, courteous and caring. Whatever made this improvement, i’m now a regular client.

I found this place through Groupon. I think it was $ 28 for $ 50. The exam was $ 25 and a fecal test was to be performed so that should’ve added up to $ 50. I think my out-​of-​pocket expense was around $ 12 for some meds. They ended up not being able to get a good fecal «sample» so I was told to bring a sample from home. I did but it took me a few days and they charged me for the fecal test — again.
I told the girl at the front desk that the fecal test had already been paid for with my Groupon but she insisted that was not the case and I did not have my receipt to prove it. She kept saying her records showed I paid for the office visit and meds only. Her math was clearly different than mine but I didn’t have the time to argue with her.
The building is clean and doesn’t smell like a hospital like most vet places do. The front desk staff do appear to look bored and their level of friendliness could be improved. Dr. Powell is really nice and cares about her patients and that is why I returned with my other cat. Both times I received a follow up phone call to see how my cats were doing.
I don’t make the $$ I used to so I will continue to look for other vets that fit more in my budget without a Groupon.

I brought my dog Desi in for a TBLO surgery per a recommendation from a friend of mine who works for the owner family, mistake number one… should of not done that … from the initial pre surgery appointment seem to be going in the right direction, staff was friendly, clean space the owner Dr Tyson seemed knowledgeable, told me my dog was o beast and needed to loose some weight before the surgery could happen…(by the way the Doc could stand to loose a few pounds also…) but anyway brought my dog home and starved him and yea he lost a few pounds and we proceeded with the surgery. I was told by Dr. Tyson that my dog would have to stay 4 days after the surgery …(seemed a bit long to me as I had been told by 2 other vets that they keep the dog over night and then send them home. So I called everyday and got progress reports all seemed good with the surgery but Desi was very anxious, no doubt being caged up for 4 days and that he was not eating. So Dr Tyson informed me that he could NOT go home on Friday if he has not eaten, per her suggestion if I came and got my dog to eat than he could go home with me.(BTW I have been told by several other vets and the Surgeon who did the surgery that is is very common for a dog not to eat after a major surgery) So I was really excited to see Desi and knew if I brought him some of his favorite treats he would eat for me, which he did.
This is where the bait and switch comes in… Dr Tyson who was not even there as she only works one day a week (lucky her.) told the staff that my Dog can not go home, really, …I drove over an hour with the agreement from her that if Desi’s eats he can go home… she just changed her mind I guess… well I insisted that Desi comes home with me cause I knew my dog he would be less anxious in the comforts of his home and would eat and drink for me. So the attending Dr Powell made me sign every possible waiver they had in their possession as according to them I was going against the Doctors orders, which I did not feel this was the case as I was told «if I got my dog to eat it could go home with me». Dr Tyson I guess just changed her mind and it seemed to me they wanted to make some extra money by keeping my dog over the weekend… and racking up more charges… Up to this point I had already spend over 5,000 dollars so far
Anyway I took Desi home and he drank about a gallon of water and ate 2 cans of dog food immediately once
my call was the right one and Desi was very happy to be home.
Next morning I received a call from Dr Tyson’s office asking me where would I like all my records sent… I was rather confused as this is a major surgery and follow up is critical, let alone I had paid for all of the follow up in full, like stitch removal, x-​rays, I was told told that Dr Tyson DID NOT want to do any follow up on my dog Desi … I was so upset after a sleepless evening watching my baby boy all night that I broke down in tears … what kind of Doctor takes your money for a major surgery and does not care about any follow up… No explanation at all from them as why they were refusing follow up care after a major surgery. The only reason I could come up with was that Doctor Tyson was punishing me for taking my dog home against her word… This is pure and simple a woman that has an ego problem… This doctor could care less about your dog let along the surgery .
I was reimburse for the follow up charges after 4 days and very happy to say I found a great new Vet Blue Cross Animal Hospital who now is doing all the follow up care, and owner /​Doctor of Blue Cross was really sorry to hear such unprofessional-​ism not to mention the 4 day stay in the hospital was extreme .
Just about everyone I shared my experience that I had to endure with this Doctor was shocked to hear that the Doctor refused follow up care… I am glad she did as they seem to care more about making money and not their medical care they give to your animals .
Do yourself a favor and find a real doctor who cares about your animals, there are many out there that do.

Your pet is a part of your family, you wouldn’t take you kids to just any clinic would you. I’m so happy that I have a place I trust and my pouch loves, he always has a wigging tail and runs up to the doctors when we go in for check up or boarding. That’s enough for me

I am so lucky to have found this place!
You never wait more then a couple of minutes (if any wait at all!) and the staff is always very friendly and helpful. The facilities are clean and organized.
I am working with this vet to move two dogs to Australia and we are have to follow strict step-​by-​step guidelines to export them according to Australian quarantine regulations. The staff at Crown City are going above and beyond to make sure I am following the Australian guidelines correctly by researching the rules online and trying to find me the best prices on the various lab tests I need completed. They are always very patient to answer all of my questions and give me advice when needed.
I love this vet and recommend them to all pet owners!

NEVER take any of your reptile pets to this place. NOT PROFESSIONAL AT ALL. the doctor doesnt even know the basic knowledge. but their staff said the doctor is experienced.

Very friendly staff. Super clean and looks nicer than my doctors office. And they have a grooming office and boarding!

This Veterinary clinic is the best around! My bulldog had quite a few health problems and a broken bone and the Dr.‘s and assistant fixed him very well. I am so grateful! Thank you Crown City! Keep up the good work!

I recently had to put down a dog with behavioral issues. I loved this dog very much and it was extremely difficult for me to do. Doctor Powell preformed the service. She was extremely professional and compassionate. A couple weeks later I received a card in the mail expressing her condolences. Thank you doc, and happy holidays

Both the front desk and doctor were helpful, courteous and answered all my questions; and, the facility was very clean. I will definitey be returning.

I’ve been taking my dog here for almost 2 years, the staff’s are friendly and nice, the place is clean, i was going to give them 5 stars but I am not happy about the price of their meds =)

I’ve been coming to this vet for 2 years now. I love this place so much that after I moved from Pasadena to El Segundo I still drive one HOUR each way every time my dog needs to see the doctor. There are so many things I appreciate about this place that I have to list them in bullet points, here we go!
— The staff is so friendly, professional, knowledgeable and patient. They even have a sense of humor — which is SO appreciated when you’re stressed over a new found flea, diarrhea, vomiting, etc. I am a first-​time pet owner and from the start they have been so patient with my hundreds of questions (which are very repetitive when I am stressed over my dog’s health). People can really make or break a place, and the staff here really make it. The vet tech is so awesome, he is super knowledgeable and really calms animals down in a way I haven’t seen in other offices. Plus — when I call in and say my name, they already know and remember my pet’s name… let’s face it, that’s amazing!
— They make time for you, even when they are busy. I have called in on ten plus different occasions with «little» emergencies that my dog has gotten himself into (ranging from tapeworms to what I thought was a bowel obstruction), and each time they always say, «come on in.» And when I do, they are ready and I never wait. Amazing!
— With the last «little emergency» my dog had, I tried to save time on driving to Pasadena so I cheated and tried to go to a vet that was a couple miles away in Manhattan Beach. They did a bunch of tests without telling me the cost and charged me a whooping $ 300 bucks! On top of that — I felt rushed to get in and out, the staff was borderline rude, and the worst part — after all that money my dog was still sick the next day. So I returned to Crown City Vet the next day (with my tail between my legs) to have my dog checked by our trustworthy vet and I kid you not — the exam and the medicine was $ 150 bucks. PLUS, the doctor spent a whole hour with me answering my questions and helping calm my nerves.
I felt so stupid for even bothering with any other location or vet. Lesson learned — I’m actually considering moving back to Pasadena! These people know what they are doing and they do it better than anyone else. If you love your pet (and I love mine more than life itself), go here!!!

I like their facility. It’s clean and modern. The staff is friendly, but not so enthusiatic about it.
I’d say that they’ve always taken great care of my dog and has always resolved any issues she’s had. They are little pricey. For vaccines, make sure to go days when they have clinic hours for better prices.

I found this place by referral from the Pasadena SPCA while looking for a low-​cost clinic to check my dogs for heartworm. The low-​cost hours are on Monday 6−8pm and Saturday (all day I believe).
This place offers heartworm screening tests for $ 25 per dog and results within 10 minutes of the blood draw. Overall service is average in terms of speed and wait time. Since my dogs were completely new to this clinic, the 30 minute wait in an empty room was acceptable. The clinic also didn’t seem to be excessively packed when I was there.
However, I deducted two stars for the front office staff’s lack of knowledge as well as possible dishonesty with prescriptions/​medication:
When I called on two occasions to ask for the low-​cost hours and prices, it took two different people at least 10 minutes to ask/​check. I figured if something was recurring weekly, shouldn’t the staff know right off the bat and not need to put callers on hold?
In addition to this, I had planned to get a record of my dogs being negative for heartworm so that I could start them on a preventative treatment. All I needed was proof or a prescription but the staff seemed to tiptoe around the subject when they had found out I was not planning to buy the meds from them (their prices are the typical double mark-​up from online retailers). It should be the customer’s right to choose where to purchase meds and not be hedged into a single choice.
Thus, medical service is ok, but this place really needs to work on the ancillary things.

The place is charming. The staff is personable. And, the veterinarian doctor is sharp and assertive.
What more could you ask for, when you need someone to look after the family pet?
Dr. Tyson always puts me at ease, because she is clear and takes the time to explain. I ask her advice on everything that is dog related. Not only has she been able to aid me in having a healthy dog, but she has given me tips on how to crate train my young pup.
I am proud to say that my pets have Dr. Tyson to count on.
