Skylark Hotel

We had a great stay at the retro Skylark Hotel last weekend. Ron, David and Gordon could not have been more accommodating! This property is nestled up against the mountains, and it is just lovely. Also close to the free trolley. The continental breakfast was quite extensive and the setting (large kitchenette/​dining area) is more than adequate. Love the retro feel of this property. The pool was lovely and well maintained, as was our room. It was my friend’s birthday and the staff sent her a lovely vase of flowers with a birthday balloon! Please note however that this hotel uses the old fashioned metal keys to enter the property and the room. There is also no desk coverage late at night/​early morning (I am not sure of the exact hours; only that we were told there was a telephone number to call if we needed anything).

A wonderful and quaint little hotel! The front desk concierge was polite, friendly, and efficient, and our rooms were very clean. The hotel is against the base of the mountains which makes for some spectacular views. A continental breakfast was included, which is always convenient and helpful for travelers. A nice perk is that the hotel is in a safe neighborhood in walking distance of boutiques, bars, restaurants, etc. Parking is also free with your room, which is great! We also enjoyed the amenities, including the hot tub, pool, and steam room. If you’re heading out to the desert, this is a great place to stay!

It’s is pretty clean, could use a little closer looks in the window sills and nooks and crannies. Bed was comfortable though and the pool and hot tub where clean. I found it to be a little to far from the shopping and food.

Clean, big rooms, nice guest features and really nice pool setting with a nice mountain view… solid Hotel!!!

Nice Boutique style Hotel. Newly and I’m sure, continuously renovated hotel. For the price point we loved, loved our room! New carpet, hip furnishings, flat screen TV. Could use an extra mirror in the room, maybe across from the bed? Heehee! Jk, jk!
Upon checking in, Gordon walked us to our room explaining all the amenities and services. In the morning I called up to ask for a blow dryer, then later for robes and an ice bucket. In less than a min they were at the door with apologies. Seriously, less than a minute!
The pool and jacuzzi are awesome, and they even have a steam room. All were clean and there were plenty of lounge chairs. We went in the winter so mainly used the jacuzzi, but i think the pool was heated also.
There are so many boutique hotels opening in Palm Springs, this is definitely on our favorites list. We’ll be back.

Super nice staff and surprisingly awesome pool and grounds. Room was fine — better than expected for the price. And everything so clean and tidy. Fab location near the Design District.

Overall, had a very good experience. Clean and dog-​friendly. Two MAJOR pluses for me. GREAT customer service. Continental breakfast was nice. Wish the indoor dining/​lounge area served food and booze. They are totally set up for it.
Cute retro feel. Enjoyed the pool and sauna. Chill environment. My only complaint was the small bathroom. The water pressure was really low, the shower head not very adjustable (very hard to rinse off if you’re not super tall) and the temperature was fluctuating so much that at one point I almost scalded myself. Room #36, if mgmt. wants to investigate. Wifi was spotty. Otherwise, I really enjoyed staying here. Also, sweet view.

I really wanted to like this place but it wasn’t as good as I expected.
The staff is overall friendly so I don’t have any major complaints about them. The place was pretty clean, my room was pretty spacious and free breakfast is a plus.
On the other hand, I booked my room through a third party for a few bucks cheaper than the hotel website. I was advertised a kitchenette and free wi-​fi and I didn’t get either one. I mentioned to the staff that I was suppose to get a deluxe room and they mentioned to me that all their rooms are deluxe so I wasn’t sure why I didn’t get what was advertised to me. I asked to be switched but they say they were fully booked but their vacancy sign was still on. A few hours before I checked out I wanted to use their internet from my computer and it wasn’t working. I tried for an hour and since I was checking out soon I didn’t want go through the hassle of calling them and waiting longer for things to get fixed.
Two stars it is so next time I’ll probably try a different hotel when I’m in town.

How cute is this hotel? It doesn’t seem very nice from the outside. It actually looks pretty plain and boring. Once you step inside the lobby you see that it’s pretty modern and hip. The hotel is an outdoor type hotel. They have about 40 rooms, one large pool with a deep end, Jacuzzi, steam room, lockers, pool restroom, lounge with tv, piano, AC, water. Oh yeah did I mention that they serve breakfast from 8−11am. Breakfast is nothing fancy it consists of hard boiled eggs, pastries such as donuts, muffins, danish, fruit, yogurt, granola bars, cereal, coffee, OJ. OH and on Sundays they serve mimosas during breakfast! The pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and pool restrooms are open 24 hours. We definitely took advantage of that along with the other guests. Everyone was so friendly and nice and just there for a good time. We made friends with all our neighbors and spent 4^th of July together. One family of 4 brought macaroni salad, potato salad, bread rolls and chicken for all of us. We stayed up till like 3 in morning. We all watched the fireworks from the balcony. Aside from the great time we had, both Ron’s (gentlemen that work there) were so nice and helpful and just provided amazing service. You get 2 keys… ACTUAL keys with your room number. There is a fridge and safe in the room. TV with cable access. You also get 2 fancy looking robes. AC is like those motel ACs that are hooked to the wall. The rooms is very spacious. The shower on the other hand is not but not a problem. This hotel is also pet friendly which is another plus. Last but not least, you can get the trolley right across the street which takes you to downtown Palm Springs. It runs every 15 mins all day to 1:00 am.
The only thing I have to complain about is the wifi. It completely didn’t work. I was connected to it but I couldn’t do anything on my phone.
I loved this place so much I cannot wait to come back!

Loved our stay in this cute, laid-​back hotel! Stayed here a year ago and came back again this year for Fourth of July. Definitely worth coming back to.
The rooms are nice and comes with a pool view, no matter where your room is at. They’re clean and cozy. You can just go out and chill by the pool and within a few steps, you’re back to your room. Another nice thing is they have a lounge area with a piano, TV’s, and amenities you can use. Security is good because you need a key to go in the premises or get buzzed in by the attendant to come in. The pool is heated and the jacuzzi is big enough to fit a lot of people. Free breakfast, free wifi, a sauna, and ²⁴⁄₇ pool and jacuzzi, what more can you ask for?
Our recent stay was great and we met a lot of cool people. Actually planning on coming back for the next fourth with everybody else. I forgot his name but the one who helped us with our reservation is so accommodating and really looked like he enjoys his job. Ron, who was there for our whole stay, was so helpful! He ‘s a very good employee and made sure we were having fun and we had everything we need. I actually got locked out of my room because my bf went in and accidentally took the key and I couldn’t wake him up. One call and Ron answered right away and opened the door for me without any complaints. He’s definitely one employee you would want to keep in your hotel.
I would stay here again when I come back to Palm Springs. The friendly, laid-​back, chic atmosphere is definitely worth every buck!

This place is a great find! The property is beautifully styled, the rooms are clean w/​comfortable beds, and the staff is knowledgeable about fun things to do in the area. We stayed for two nights and were thrilled when we were offered a late checkout. The Skylark offers a free continental breakfast, heated pool, hot tub, and sauna. Overall was a great boutique oasis in the desert!

Staff: From the manager to the staff, everyone was so nice. You get a personal tour of the room when you arrive which is great!
Room: I got a double queen room, it was nice and cozy. The beds are way comfortable
The great part is that the pool is open ²⁴⁄₇! Including the jacuzzi and steam room. What’s more turn up than a 3 am dip in the pool? Also, they’re dog friendly! My buddy made friends with the manager’s dog, which was good on his part

I read the reviews before coming here so I knew exactly what to expect. It’s a simple hotel, but it’s clean and inviting. The pool is nice and it was quiet with chill music playing. Very relaxing. The rooms are clean. The staff was welcoming. The continental breakfast is just cereal, coffee, juice, bars, and pre packaged Danishes, which was fine. The coffee was good.
The one bad thing I will say is that our shower had NO water pressure. Don’t try to wash your hair, there’s no way you would get any of your shampoo out.
I would come back here but I would make sure I got a room with water pressure. It’s a good thing I didn’t have to wash my hair. Room 17… No water pressure!!!

What I love about Palm Springs is that while it is only a two hours’ drive from Los Angeles, it feels like somewhere totally different and far away. Much of that has to do with the places we have been, and high on our list is Skylark. It is a gem of a place that has been restored to its 1955 splendor, but with updated amenities like a steam room, modernized bathrooms, and a walled-​off front entrance so you can have the place to yourself. A panoramic view of the San Jacinto mountains greets you as a friend whenever you come and go.
My wife and I got married in Palm Springs last weekend, and we booked out Skylark for our close friends and family. After meeting with Skylark both in person and on the phone several times in the time leading up to our wedding, Ron and Gordon were very accommodating to both us and our guests.
We came in Thursday and left Saturday, and the honeymoon suite we stayed in for the rest of our time was nice but didn’t come close to the fancy multi-​head shower experience of Skylark.
Ron, Gordon, Andy and Dane keep the place up well, with spotless rooms, pool area and hot tub. They were the consummate hosts. They patiently took several calls from my mother about decorations, let us hang a sign on the chaise out front, even measuring it and providing pointers on how best to install it to stand up to the desert wind. We had the place to ourselves – the prep kitchen, sound system, and bar were ours to use, and we held a Friday pool party and welcome dinner on the grounds at Skylark. As a result, we felt like we were hosting a party at our house instead of a hotel 100 miles away, and that’s exactly what we wanted.
Nobody had a bad thing to say about the staff or the grounds. My only regret is that I didn’t use the steam room after coming back Thursday night from my bachelor party.
Skylark is my first choice for our next visit to Palm Springs – which is not soon enough!

The Skylark is an absolute gem. I actually got married out in Palm Springs and we booked out the whole place for the weekend for all of our friends and family. The staff was incredible and the place was so inviting. Ron & Gordon helped our group out immensely and they even let us throw a karaōke night and a farewell brunch the morning after the wedding, which allowed us and our guests time to relax and really enjoy the property.
I stayed from Wednesday and checked out on Monday morning and I didn’t want to leave! The pool was the perfect temperature and I spent countless hours floating around. The grounds are well manicured and the rooms are spotless. The shower head in our room was a dream. There is a steam room available and the main room in the back of the property is a great place to drink your morning coffee and read the paper.
The Skylark on a map seems like it is a bit further away from the main part of downtown Palm Springs but don’t let that deter you. There is a Buzz stop just across the street and down about 50 feet. If you don’t know what the Buzz is, it’s a new (and best of all FREE) trolley that runs up and down all of Palm Springs making travel super convenient. We also caught an über a few times and it was only $ 5 – 7 to get around.
All things considered, I would recommend the Skylark to just about anyone. Their prices are reasonable, their staff will go over an beyond for you and it is the perfect blend of the Palm Springs charm everyone is looking for and the modern amenities that people have come to expect.

We made reservations based on the Unilocal reviews. Not sure how this place got so many 5 stars though.

— Security: you need a key to get in the hotel building. The lock to the outside door is a bit difficult. It took a few minutes to jiggle and turn the key every time we had to use it.
— room smelled musty; like it wasn’t aired out. Turned the fan on to circulate air.
— iron and blow dryer: must request from front desk
— No full length mirror
— Takes a while for water to heat up for the shower.
— squeaky faucet every time it was turned on/​off.
— really (really!) weak water pressure; shower was small
— fiancé found a pill in the bathroom that was missed by the cleaning person

Maybe we aren’t into the type of design the hotel boasts after all? But in a pinch, we might stay again… just ask for a different room

We’ll never forget our stay. My wife and I chose Skylark for our baby-​moon in May 2014 initially because I wanted something retro and inexpensive. It hit those marks but this stay was extra special, we wanted to reveal our baby’s gender to ourselves using balloons in our hotel room when we arrived. After booking the room I contacted Skylark and the manager Ron & staff helped me immediately and loved the idea. I mailed them blue and pink balloons the week before and had our doctor’s office fax them the gender so they knew which to put in the room before our arrival.
When we got there we were upgraded to a suite and were brought to tears when we entered the room. They had obviously gone out and bought more and better party supplies because the room was covered in blue streamers and tons of balloons, way more than I had given them (pics attached, only shows half of it). This is the sort of service you just don’t see much of anymore. We felt like celebrities.
They were humble and professional through the whole stay, it was a wonderful experience. Ron & staff make it feel like a family run hotel and you feel like a visiting friend instead of a typical hotel guest. It’s very laid back and discreet. The «hotel dog» was running around all day, so cute following various staff. The pool is nice and refreshing as is the hot tub. The whole property is small but well laid out and private. It’s the oasis we were looking for, just hang out poolside all day, your room is right there, all doors surround the pool.
Continental breakfast is decent. It’s on the quieter front end of the strip so it’s nice to be out of the madness but still walkable to a few good restaurants/​bars. The suite room is very nice with a great kitchen and living area. Hotel is a great balance of retro/​modern, posh and downhome. We just really dug the vibe and our extraordinary service of course put us over the top. They have customers for life now. THANK YOU SKYLARK! And our beautiful baby boy James thanks you!

Called to get a room block for a wedding and ultimately decided to take the plunge at the Skylark. Ron, the manager, and all of his staff went above and beyond to make it happen. The hotel was amazing and we spent most of the weekend relaxing poolside with friends and family. Across the board, everyone had an amazing time.
We can’t wait to come back!
