Aperture True Photography was established by the owner, Nancy Smalley in 2010 in the San Francisco Bay Area. The company specializes in weddings, engagements and portraiture photographer. Originally from Los Angeles, Nancy’s photographic style is a blend of photojournalism, with it’s aliveness and spontaneity, and studio photography, with the refinement of beautiful portraiture.

Business Owner

Nancy is a professional wedding and portraiture photographer. In addition to photographing weddings, engagement sessions and portraits she has photographed bridal fashion and special events for MOCHA BRIDE and BRIDE NINE magazines.

Recently from Los Angeles, she studied photography under Julia Dean at Julia Dean Studios in Venice, Ca and received her Associate Arts Degree in Photography from Santa Monica College (SMC).

Nancy works for a private studio in the East Bay (San Francisco) where she specializes in portraiture and formal event photography. She has been photographing weddings for four years.

Her photographic style is a blend of photojournalism, with it’s aliveness and spontaneity, and studio photography, with the refinement of beautiful portraiture.

I had the great opportunity to work with Nancy on some headshots for my portfolio, and we ended up taking a whole bunch of fun photos together. Nancy was really easy to work with, and I loved her collaborative style, asking what I was looking for, but also having a keen eye for what works with lighting, color, and style. She did some research of our location in advance, so we were able to show up and get right to work. A CD of the photos came pretty soon after, and the photos looked great. I was able to get what I needed, and have some fun ones to post to facebook ;)

I had Nancy do photo session with my daughter Alexa, she was 3 months old then. I was really looking forward to the session with Nancy and I have to say she was a great photographer to work with. The session started in early morning, Nancy wanted to make sure that we caught good light that will compliment my daughter and she really paid a lot of attention to the background, the pictures have this amazing morning freshness.
Working with babies is the hardest because they simply don’t know how to pose and they are not patient but Nancy was good in directing her. We got to the session and it turned out that Alexa got hungry so we had to feed her but Nancy was was super patient and was setting up the background, picking up the blankets that will look best against Alexa’s skin color. I absolutely love the ultramarine blue that she picked for her. She made all of us feel very comfortable. Even though the session was for my daughter she decided to take coupe shots of me and my husband, she even included our dog in few shots.
It turned out to be the best photo session that we had, not only Alexa got great shots but me and my husband as well. As we all know kids grow so fast and Nancy was able to capture very precious moments that will stay with us forever! Alexa looks very sweet and playful on the pictures. We all look happy and that’s exactly how we felt that day.
