Horrible experience. My group of 8 sat down together to enjoy dinning and we had poor serve, empty drink glasses, and waited over an hour to be served because«…you got the slow chef». We were told. Three of the 8 had sushi only and were served and finished eating LONG before the grill was fired up. Place is run by novices.

If you’re doing hibachi, you’ll have a stellar time. If you’re doing the bar, you’ll get the best prices(especially during lunch). If you’re doing sushi, you’re probably going to be disappointed. I don’t quite know what you’d expect, though. We’re a long way from the ocean, and even further from Japan. Overall, the food and sushi here is pretty so-so, with the exception of the fried rice, which is excellent. All of these are improved by hot sake in abundance.

Read the reviews and decided to try it, I was HIGHLY disappointed, the food was very poor, I ordered seaweed salad and got a bowl of sliced cucumbers with what seemed like a seaweed garnish, fried dumplings were soggy and bland, ordered the spicy salmon roll and spicy tuna which I tend to think is a roll few could mess up but was proven wrong, the rolls were mostly rice hardly no fish. I don’t recommend this restaurant if you are familiar with sushi and other things besides cooked food.

The food was wonderful the 1st time we came in(I got the scallops hiabachi, and my boyfriend got the filet one). Very delicious. Today when we went, everything was like I remembered except the chef squeezed lemon juice on it. Blech. Not my favorite, but still good.

Love the food. The chicken fried rice is awesome but we need some hair nets. Found hair in my food both times I went.

Looking for a good sushi bar option: Go for the Tuna Tataki on the appetizer menu. It is great with a sea weed salad.

This is some of the better quality sushi in the area –especially for the price. They also have great lunch specials.

Kyoto has been here for some years now and they have had their ups and downs. Right now they are doing most things right. I could write five different reviews on this place giving them a different rating on each because of the inconsistency they’ve experienced over the years, however over the past several months anytime we come here everything has been wonderful. From the food to the service it’s been great. I’m not a big fan of hibachi tables so we almost always sit over by the bar. This is where my only problem with Kyoto comes from. There’s just no room to stand if you are waiting to be seated other than right by the tables by the bar. They get really packed on weekends and it’s very uncomfortable having people standing inches away from your table watching every bite you take. For this reason takeout is how we mostly enjoy the food here but when we do dine in we try to get a table to the right of the bar as far away from the hostess desk as possible. Now to the food! The sushi is great and they have the best fried rice I’ve ever eaten. The hibachi is very good. I’ve had it all, from the steak to the chicken and it’s all great. I can honestly say I’ve never gotten anything here I didn’t enjoy but my favorite is the Seafood Lovers Roll and an order of Chicken Fried Rice. I hope Kyoto stays on the path they’ve been on lately because they have some very good competition just up the road now.
