Oakland Wood Floors

Fantastic experience with this company. We had them refinish the floors in two small bedrooms where wood floors had been hiding under gross carpet for probably decades, so there was a fair amount of moisture damage and lots of neglect. The square footage was under the size for their minimum refinishing charge, so they threw in some repairs that were needed at no additional cost to us. We went from scheduling an estimate to getting a quote to a beautiful finished product in just a couple of weeks, and the actual work time was less than originally estimated (they were in and out in one day!!). We really couldn’t be happier with the service and professionalism, and with our gorgeous floors.

Luis and his team were exceptional. I first met Luis when he came over to do a complimentary consultation on our wood floors. He gave me honest answers, walked me through the entire process, and never tried to up sell anything to me. He broke down the pricing options to me and clearly marked everything so that I would understand the pricing.
We hired his team to buff our floors, and he and his team went above and beyond to satisfy my husband and me. The first time around, our floors didn’t finish as we’d hoped (his team was not at fault). Luis and his guys promptly came back the following day to correct it until we were happy with the result. Honestly, he could have just walked away after we paid him and ignored us forever, but he truly has great work ethic and wants to see his work completed as best as possible.
Overall I would highly recommend Oakland Wood Floors if you’re looking for professional service and high quality work.

Avoid this company. I found them on Unilocal and had them install a new floor, based on all the positive reviews (many of which I think are probably fake). I purchased the materials, and they struggled with the installation, despite me asking repeatedly prior to the install date if they needed information or to verify if the wood I purchased was of good quality. My entire experience in dealing with Luis and Corrine, the owners (neither of whom have a clue as to how to run a business) was stressful and ridiculously painful. They accept cash or checks only (no credit cards). They don’t return phone calls promptly, and their scheduling process is a joke.
In my opinion, the entire operation is dubious, and has a cut-​rate, fly-​by-​night feel. Yet I ended up over paying premium prices ($ 700 over estimate), which I am still angry about. I could have let them take me to small claims court, but it wasn’t worth the hassle so I just paid. The owner, Luis was profusely apologetic, but offered nothing more. My impression and opinion is that Oakland Wood Floors is a less-​than-​reputable company and my recommendation is that you AVOID having your floors worked on by this company.

Miracle workers!
I recently purchased a very old home with hardwood floors needing a lot of love and attention. But, deep down inside I knew, even with all the damage and previous abuse, that these Douglas fir and oak floors deserved and could be rescued. I did a fair amount of research and other companies recommended I give up my dream and cover it all over with other flooring and call it a day. I refused to be satisfied with that and kept searching. After reading Unilocal reviews I decided to give one more company a try.
I knew within the first 5 minutes of my consultation with Luisk that Oakland Wood Floors would be the ones for the job. The restoration and repair of my floors were no simple task and I easily had as much damage as you’d see in a few homes combined. The pricing is more than fair and when you get a price, they stick to it. The level of craftsmanship cannot be beat and you couldn’t pick out where the repairs were made… that’s how good it is. Also, the job was finished on time even with extra repair work! And the floors look so good and I couldn’t be more delighted (I must have hugged Luisk like 17 times). Since seeing is believing I’ll also be attaching before/​after photos for your viewing pleasure (as soon as I figure out how to do that).
So, bottom line I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend Oakland Wood Floors and would hire them again in a snap and recommend that you do too if you’re looking to work with the best.

Luis (the owner) and his team (Roberto, Juan, and (sorry, I forgot the other guy’s name)) were exceptional in the way they conducted business with us. We had just bought a house and have an ongoing battle with the seller over the wood floors (non-​disclosure).
Anyway, I called around and the first bid I received was for $ 23,000 to replace the floors in 2 bedrooms and 3 closets. Fortunately, I contacted Oakland Wood Floors and Luis came within a couple days and gave us an estimate that was nearly 4 times less than the first bid. Luis and Juan were prompt and eager to get started on our project. Due to the condition of these rooms, I required additional time to clean and prep the floors in-​between the removal of the old floors and the installation of the new wood. Luis was always extremely accommodating and understanding of my plight.
Roberto was exceptionally polite and hardworking. These guys did an amazing job and I am so happy we went with them. Even my husband who is normally very critical of everything is very pleased with the outcome of our new hardwood floors.
I was quite demanding due to the unique situation we were in and Oakland Wood Floors was always patient and responsive. Thank you Luis, Roberto, and the whole Oakland Wood Floors team so much for your professionalism and for the amazing work you’ve done with our floors.
If you are in need of hardwood floors, CALL them! They are exceptional and I will be referring my family and friends to them in the future. Please note though that they have a cash or check policy and do not accept credit cards.

I had scheduled an appt. for an estimate, they called the day before the appt. to say their van is broken down, and they can not re-​schedule the estimate for 10 days. I suggested they don’t need the van for an estimate, and we need the job done in a one week window, 14 days from now. She was adamant that they cannot do an estimate without their van with all their equipment, samples etc. I cannot possible wait 10 days just to see if they are able and interested in doing the job — I am not very impressed.

These guys are exceptional. I called several wood companies for estimates and this is the only company that called me back for a follow-​up. Juan made the entire process stress-​free. He always followed up and always returned my calls promptly. Juan provided excellent customer service. Gaspar was highly professional, efficient and did magnificent work. These guys worked 10 hour days to make sure they met their time line. We are very happy with our new floors. Thank you for great service! Will definitely recommend this company to others.

I had a really great experience with these professional & efficient guys. Their quoted price was fair, and they finished the job on schedule even with issues popping up. They went out of the way to pick up additional materials when we realized we didn’t buy enough, which was our own fault. I love my new floors!

We checked with two other flooring experts. Oakland Wood Floors was the only company who knew how to deal with floors that couldn’t take more sanding. Jasper was incredibly meticulous, paying attention to every little spot. The result was gorgeous floors. They know what they’re doing and they do it right. For recoating, do not save a few bucks and go elsewhere. This is the company for you.

Everything was top notch with these guys. I called them and pleaded for an estimate and wanted to get work started within a few days. Thankfully, they were able to accommodate my request. Juan was very helpful over the phone. Gaspar was always on time, early actually, and would call ahead. He explained the process, gave me a fair quote and worked hard for 2 long days (he worked 12 hours on the first day!). They removed the carpet and nails faster than I can type this review on my phone. The sanding seemed to take eons, but they just wanted to do it right. Halfway through, Gaspar showed me 3 different stain options on my actual floor, along with how it would look with just a clear coat. We chose midnight mahogany and love it.
The result is in the pictures. Beautiful floors and tremendous effort. They take pride in what they do and it shows. No fumes and no dust. Unfortunately we moved furniture in the following weekend and have a scratch. We’re trying to figure out how to restore it back to its beauty from a week before!

Read all the great reviews and was very pleased with the experience and price. I was greeted very nicely by Luis in Oakland with Coconut milk and water with a nice view of Lake Merrit. He went over a lot of options and even recommend I go with a lower cost option given I was refinishing floors on an investment property.
He gives honest advise and does not push to upsell, clearly interested in customer satifaction and he along with his crew delivered an excellent job at the best price I could find. They didn’t even charge extra even though the job was all the way out in Stockton.

Oakland Wood Floors did a beautiful job sanding and refinishing the original floors in our Alameda apartment (built in 1925). The beautiful floors inspired our tenants to repaint the trim and the whole place looks great!

I just had my second positive experience with Oakland Wood Floors, as they just installed new wood flooring in one of our bedrooms and a hallway. The job had some challenges due to our 81 year old home, but Gaspar (highly experienced installer) figured out a solution to our wacky baseboard issue and the end result looks finished and gorgeous. This room had serious water damage from a previous owner so the before/​afters are amazing! Overall the crew was professional, efficient, fast, focused, on time, excellent work with no song and dance. Highly recommended, and we will be using them again.

Okay… the intake is a little clunky but the results are so stunning… who cares?
The guys are on time, completely professional and experienced.
I refinished the floor in my kitchen and there was NO dust anywhere in my house!
Don’t be put off by the intake.

The folks at Oakland Wood Floors not only do a good job; they really contribute to the community. I work at Children’s Fairyland and was tasked with re-​doing the Reading Room. The floor was green cement and I fantasized about covering it with wood, but Fairyland is a non-​profit and I didn’t have a big budget. When I wrote an email to Luis about how much a wood floor would warm up the room and contribute to people’s desire to use the space and read to their children, he responded by donating a floor (materials and labor). The floor is beautiful and everyone was friendly and helpful. I wholeheartedly encourage people to support Oakland Wood Floors.

I had such a terrible experience with these people that I am compelled now, after several years and two home floor installs later by someone else obviously, to write another review. As a rookie Unilocaler back then, my initial review was apparently removed as suspect for being a competitor, which I clearly am not. Thanks to a fellow Unilocaler looking out, I was informed of this and encouraged to put this information out there again: beware of this unprofessional, shady business — I learned the hard way. My husband and I initially decided to go with them to replace the carpet in our new townhome with hardwood floors and in a nutshell, realized we could not trust them — not only did their people on the ground equivocate, but upon reaching out to management, we found out that the problem is top down. An extremely disappointing experience, but thankfully we got out before getting into real trouble with them. I so wish my original review was still alive bc the details which have faded (for the better) were all in it, sigh. Hope this still helps someone out there to avoid a similar waste of time and energy!

Overly lengthy intake process/​appointment set up for a no show.

I agree with a previous Unilocaler. Terrible intake process. I called 5 times to request an estimate for install on two houses and each person had to check with somebody else (or didn’t bother to answer during normal work hours). Phone calls not returned. If it is this bad to try and get them to provide an estimate, unless you feel like waiting around, I would not use them.

My sister recently reccommended oakland wood floors for my mom’s house.
they had done her apt floor and she spoke very highly of them.
My mom wanted to redo her stair and hallway.
After speaking with oakland wood floors they came out and did an estimate. Customer service was good. My mother decided to go with them.
They scheduled to come in on a wednesday at 10:00am. That wednesday at 8:30am I received a call from their office telling me they had car trouble and unfortunately they would not be able to make it. I understand, that is not their fault. They rescheduled for the next day. The next day, they arrived on time and ready to work. Bottom line, my mother is very happy with the job they did! Gives the house a grand look. They were able to match it well with the existing hardwood in the other rooms. She loves it.
The job took about 3 days which was what they estimated and the price was very good! My family highly reccomends this company! attached are some pics of the beautiful work they did!
