History

Established in 2003.

Our Oakland Hand Therapy & Acupuncture clinic is located in Downtown Oakland. Between 19th & 20th. We are inside the BBCN Bank Building, on the 2nd floor, there is an elevator. Street/​metered or Garage parking only. Drs M Parks, M Bulatov, and S Isono are in the same Building. We receive referrals from many MDs like: Drs: Cardon & Yu, Richards and Lee, Masem, Chin, Kaiser Occ Med., UCSF, ABMG, Sutter Health. OT/​Hand Therapy is a Separate treatment Service, different Than Acupuncture. Some patient receive just OT or just Acupuncture.

All Therapists are highly skilled and provide 1 to 1 care. We are Networked with our El Cerrito office Estb. 2001.

Susan is very happy with her Awesome Staff, All of whom provided Excellent Care and treatment Results. We have four Front office staff in El Cerrito. They Handle daily Calls, Faxes, Ins. Authorizations and much more. Kyle Garcia is our Front office staff in the Oakland Clinic.

Susan enjoys treating Sports Injuries, Traumatic Injuries, as well as Repetitive Strains. Susan has 2 Separate Licenses:. OTR/​L CHT and LAc/​Acupuncturist.

Don’t listen to Mary P. she’s an idiot! I was there the day that she supposedly had her bad experience. She was rude to everyone. Who goes around explaining their problem to «everyone in the room» and bitching on their first day and acting like a B1Tc$ ?
I have been coming here for over a year. The people here are the nicest you would ever meet, except one greeting girl that always wants to kick you out if you are more than 5 minutes late (but she is young and self absorbed). Other than that the staff (of at least 10 people who work here) is very professional and competent and you get results!
I have arm and hand problems and Susan Cupples built up the strength in my TFCC (Ulnar) which is a very delicate region that is very difficult to treat. The referal nerve pain problem in my shoulder also improved dramatically.
People with hand and shoulder issues need to realize that chronic issues in these areas take a long time to heal if you are using those joints daily and therefore need to be patient to get results. Just 5 – 6 session is not going to do it.
My specialist doctors over at UCSF are always commenting about my improvement over the other hand thereapy shops around the Bay Area and how people get superior results with Oakland and El Cerrito Hand Therapy.
I was really concerned about the use of my hand and given an hour of driving each way to work to Cupertino, I was very doubtful that my hand would ever get any better and might need to find closer work. But, Susan helped me turn this around. I am very grateful.

I worked with Lisa for 2 months back in 2011 and had a wonderful experience. The office is professional, clean, full of good toys/​implements to get you back on track. My background: a lifetime athlete, highly competitive rower. I had broken my left wrist in April and had 2 plates and many pins put in to help it heal. PT started about a month after the surgery, and after working with Lisa several times a week to start, then once a week as we got further along, I was back to training by August, and was able to compete in a rowing race in October. Lisa gave me a variety of exercises to do both in the office and at home, and was sensitive to how aggressive I wanted to be with my PT. She has a good feel for her clients. The environment is open and caring, with all patients working in the same large room. I found this to be an encouraging type of environment and would recommend it.

This place was clean, well-​lit, and good in terms of friendliness and seemingly knowing what they are doing. Perhaps I’m a little biased — I went for 6 – 10 sessions or so, but my pain didn’t really get any better (not sure if that’s the fault of the place though, as I went to a lot of different places, and none of them helped). Perhaps tendonitis is just something that’s really hard to get rid of, especially in the arms from too much computer use (ha, and look, I’m using a computer to type this in — maybe that’s why…).

I have been getting acupuncture from Lisa for years. Thanks to her I am able to sleep at night and over the years she has gotten rid of headaches, neck tension and more. She is the best! In addition, she has helped both my daughter and son with various hand injuries. To top it off, when my husband (who had been complaining about hand numbness and tingling to his regular doctor for years) happened to mention it to her in casual conversation, SHE is the one who said it could very well be coming from his neck. Well guess what, he had an MRI, ended up at the neurosurgeons (well we got three opinions from three neurosurgeons actually) and the all said that his spinal cord was so compressed due to herniated disks that he was in danger of paralysis if he did not have surgery. He had it and is fine now. THANK YOU LISA! We are lucky to have you.

I had one appointment with Lisa and that’s all it took to realize it would be my last. The space is a barn like open room where there are at least 10 other patients and therapists all talking and working at the same time. When Lisa looked over and greeted me, she was giving arm therapy to another patient and talking on the phone at the same time! Talk about multi-​tasking…
When she finally sat down at a desk across from me, I tried to explain (to her and everyone else in the room) my problem. A few words and me pointing to my elbow was enough for her to launch into a shpeal of stretching exercises that she made me do in front of everyone. She didn’t want to hear about my problem, (she’s heard the same story too many times and doesn’t seem to care how the problem started, where it’s located and how it gets aggravated). And actually, it’s really hard to hear anything she says, because all the other patients are having their own conversations going and there’s the typical loud mouth guy who needs to express his opinion to everyone else present.
I was very uncomfortable, there was no privacy, no personal attention and the price per session was very high! This was not a «community» acupuncture appointment or drop in. If you’re looking for personal and confidential therapy, this is not the place to go.

Lisa and Renee will be holding my hand twice a week for the next 3 months, so I think I’ll be growing to love this place. I’ve only had one session so far, but Lisa very kindly and gently took my (pathetic) wrist flexibility measurements. Then she gave me some semi-​painful exercises to do, which are getting easier by the day.
I used to go to St. Lukes hospital in San Francisco when I had an unrelated hand injury, and I loved my hand therapist, but the room was totally underfunded and ghetto. The therapy room HERE, though, feels kinda like a spa that my insurance gets to pay for. Cool. And free parking in the bank next door.
