Juan and the crew at JV Gardening did a great job with fixing our irrigation system in one day. We recently bought a house and the irrigation system had been destroyed by the previous owner’s dog and someone whom stole some plants and cut the tubing. They replaced almost all of the tubing and the little root sprinklers at a very reasonable price. He and 1 crew member then came back today to do a walk through with us, helped us set up the irrigation timer and said they would come back to finish setting up the irrigation in our herb planters once I planted some herbs in the Spring. :) Today, they even took the time to help us clear some drains that were blocked after the rain! They gave great and very professional service. They were also really nice, friendly guys and were very knowledgeable. We will definitely be hiring them again when we redo part of our garden in the spring! Thanks Juan & JV Gardening for fixing our mess of a garden and our blocked drains!

Juan and I had a misunderstanding about our first meeting time: I came home at noon from work and he wasn’t there. I called him and he went way out of his way to arrange a meeting that would be convenient for me in the evening (way beyond his work day). He had also offered to drop what he was doing when I called to zoom over to my house. Who does that? :) When he arrived that night, Juan was very engaged, had great ideas, and a very present manner, clearly committed to fabulous customer service – and to just doing the right thing. Juan obviously takes the excellence of his business very seriously! I look forward to working with him.

Juan was great, and so was his crew! What started out as a backyard job ended up being a landscaping job for both the front and back yards, as well as paving a driveway. I have received lots of compliments on the work that they did. Moreover, Juan is hardworking, responsive and knows his business.

Juan and his crew are the best! It took some time to schedule the initial estimate as they are quite busy but it was worth the wait! Once I scheduled time with Juan, he came by our home and surveyed our current «yard». We previously had a dead front lawn due to the drought and were looking to change to drought tolerant landscape but I didn’t have many ideas other than pointing out neighbors yards I liked. I was also interested in repaving our crumbling driveway but wasn’t sure of what route to go (pavers or re-​cement). Juan got me right away and talked me through my ideas and his. He provided an estimate along with a sketch of his design so we could see his vision within a few days of first meeting. We loved it and couldn’t wait to get the transformation started.
Work started quickly. His crew was incredibly respectful of us and our neighbors by working biz hours predominately. They went above and beyond what we had originally identified as work to be done. They even pulled our bordering neighbors weeds and replaced their border rocks! Juan kept us updated with what to expect around every corner and made sure we were happy with the work while in progress.
I couldn’t be happier with their work and professionalism. We finally have a front yard that I am proud of & brings me joy to come home to and a back yard that we can’t wait to add a fire pit to and enjoy a glass of wine by.

Juan and his crew are the hardest workers we have ever used! Our house foundation was getting wet due to soil erosion. They completely rebuilt and shored up our hillside. The work was fast and thorough. Everyone was on time and super polite. We liked the work so much that we hired him as our gardener! We have no hesitation about recommending j v gardening. The best!

Before JV Gardening redid our yard, we’d be afraid to go back there! I mean, it was filled with weeds taller than me, you’d get scratched by all the different thorns and who knows what kind of weeds, lots of uneven dirt and gofer holes, bugs, boy it was just a HOT MESS! It wasn’t a space that we could use as a family, it was hard to set-​up for parties with all the concealing and last minute de-​weeding we’d have to do to just have it grow back again how many months later, and it was so difficult to set-​up a pool and other activities that we needed for health issues because of how uneven it was. So the search for a landscaper began.
We got 5 quotes from different companies that had great reviews and great people that came out for the consultations. Juan from JV Gardening was the best quote we received, plus he included more renovating than the other companies for a fraction of the cost.
Juan and his team removed our weeds, put pavers on most of the backyard, de-​weeded our slope area and removed unwanted trees and added beautiful trees and plants to the existing apple and vegetable tree we had, installed a new drip system, laid down weed barriers, gofer wire, put lattice under our sun room, removed our old desk and fence, added drought friendly plants all over the backyard, put in decomposed granite on our side yard, with retaining walls along the slope and the side yard. That’s just the list of things I can remember! He did above and beyond what was agreed upon.
Juan responds very quickly to texts and emails, which I was surprised about because I know he is super busy! I loved that they use safer chemicals for the weeds, like vinegar based solution (safer for my family and environment). I loved that they included a sketch of the design before we started. I can keep going on and on of all the things I love!
Some tips I have:
–There is a consultation fee for some areas for them to travel. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to pay at first because other companies didn’t have this. But I am SOOOO glad we did, because we ended up going with them, and the fee goes toward your overall cost anyway.
–I love doing budget stuff. I do it at home, and I do it as part of my job. So I was a nerd and had each deposit amounts, the check number and dates we gave it to them to cross check what they had too. Came in handy since they have SO many clients! (How could they not with such awesome work?!)
Juan’s crew (to include Jose and Manuel his dad, whom I saw the most, are such hard-​working, talented guys) did the most AMAZING job on our backyard. We never thought our backyard would look so great! We love going out there every day now! Seeing the joy on my son and nephew’s faces when they can bike freely, play basketball and run around is priceless! We look forward to more family moments, getting healthier back there and socializing with friends and family, and we can’t thank Juan and his crew enough for that!
We would HIGHLY recommended JV Gardening. We are already talking about possible projects for the future! Juan and his crew are talented, timely and hard working, along with being the best deal. We look forward to working with them again in the future!

Project #2. This is the second landscaping project that Juan has done for us. This one was to landscape and provide drainage and a flower bed to the side of the house. Just like in the first project, we were very pleased with this outcome (see before and after pics). As an added bonus Juan guarantees his work. He personally came back today to replace two plants that had died from the first job. He even said to call him if this were to happen again.

I called Juan and, although he is extremely busy, he was able to squeeze me into his schedule for a «look-​see» at the problem I was having on my sprinkler system (it just stopped working completely). He came over and found that the problem was relatively minor (the water shut off valve was inexplicably closed, and the timer and one of the sprinkler valves needed adjusting). He was able to fix things completely in about a half an hour.
He obviously knew what he was doing and was professional and personable.
Then he absolutely refused payment! He is now on my list as THE GUY to hire when I have a project on which I can use him. He’s clearly an honest businessman who knows how to build customer loyalty.
I highly recommend him.

I hired JV Gardening & Landscape to do a complete front/​backyard overhaul. As you can see from my pictures, my yards were terrible. Juan took my vision and his expertise and turned my yards into masterpieces. He knew the exact plants, trees, stone, rocks, bark, etc. to use based on a couple short conversations.
His pricing was very competitive and reasonable. I got four quotes to do the same job — JV Gardening & Landscape had the best price and the best Unilocal reviews… Why wouldn’t I go with them? I’m glad I did. Juan and his crew knocked it out of the park!

I would love to give them more stars! I had a small yard FULL of horrible blackberry and ivy. Juan and his team got rid of ALL of it, and left everything SPOTLESS. They were so nice, reliable, and professional. I’m going to have them back to lay down some weed barrier and pea gravel — they are the BEST.

JV Gardening just completed a major landscaping project at our home in Orinda. Juan and his crew did a beautiful job and were extremely accommodating to our many requests and changes. They installed gorgeous garden paths, patio, drip irrigation and drought — tolerant plantings. We now have the rustic, natural landscaping we were envisioning. Juan was extremely honest, reliable and easy to work with, even with our many alterations. The quality of the work is great and we will definitely use JV Gardening when we are ready to landscape the upper portion of our yard. Highly recommend Juan and the JV team!

We had Juan do our landscaping in the front, side yard and back yard. His crew was quick, detailed and proficient at their work. The man who built our side gate did it in a few hours and it is solid and beautiful. I am very impressed with their design. We left the design of the yard up to them and it looks better than I could have ever imagined. When people drive up to our house, the first thing they say is how beautiful the landscaping is. Juan and his crew did our sprinkler system as well, which keeps our grass green and all the landscaping fresh. I am beyond thrilled with their service. Everyone was extremely polite and kind. Our front and back yard was literally a jungle. I’m talking about dead and rotting organic matter, bugs everywhere and i’m pretty sure there’s a family of raccoons living somewhere in my back yard… the community we live in has really strict HOA so we were forced to clean up our yard. We actually found JV gardening on Unilocal and as you can see based on the pictures and positive reviews this is the place to call. Juan is one of the most friendly guys I’ve ever worked with. He cleaned our yard inside and out and even helped me deliver a bunch of old yard rocks to my sister’s house that’s almost an hour away, and yes he did not charge us for it. There’s nothing this guy won’t do for you. Juan’s best quality isn’t his friendliness, he had really good taste when it comes to design and color. Don’t have to take my word for it just look at the pictures and see for yourself

We hired JV Gardening to landscape our front, side and back yard. Juan and his team did a fantastic job with our yard. They rebuilt our front yard with new gravels, rock borders and stepping stones. They also hauled away all the junk we had and laid down a weed barrier for the front and back yard. For the backyard, Juan and his team trimmed all the dead trees, re-​did the whole retaining wall and even built an artificial lawn area for my dog. He even added new plants and drip system at no additional cost.
Juan was very responsive through texts. He even went above and beyond by delivering the old gravels to my sister in law at no cost. The bamboos in my backyard are somewhat dead and he couldn’t find one that were as tall as the ones we have right now to replace it. I was somewhat bummed about it. He offered to drive to Sacramento to pick it up for me and replace it for me in two weeks. Wow, speaking of service! That was not mentioned in the invoice!
If I need landscaping work done in the future, I’ll be sure to look for Juan and his team again.

We hired Juan and JV Gardening to complete an overhaul of our front and back yards. In front, Juan installed a draught resistant set up with a drip system and weed barrier. They dug out some old trees, planted a new Japanese maple and camellia bush, along with other various plants. They replaced the sidewalk strip with pea gravel and some barrel containers with azalea bushes. In back, Juan and his guys replaced the grass with new sod, added both a sprinkler and drip system, planted an avocado tree, couple of box planters, and added some rock barriers.
In general, Juan was super courteous, prompt, and budget conscious. Juan delivered what we needed for 30% less than the other bid that we received. These guys work fast too! We are super happy with the results and will continue to use Juan and his team for maintenance.
Juan goes above and beyond to make the client happy, so I would really recommend JV Gardening to everyone out there.

Juan and his team were fantastic. They did an awesome job leveling our backyard, laying down a weed barrier and pouring super modern 3×3 cement pavers to make a center 16×16 patio. They also installed a drought conscious sprinkler system with a timer and made recommendations on plants we could install that would do well. We spoke with many of Unilocal’s top rated landscapers about this project and Juan’s bid, time table (1 week) and enthusiasm were the best by far.
JV Gardening’s work was precise, clean, on time and Juan was always responsive (checking in and confirming details via text or voicemail). He also kept the project on time and on budget (this has been a huge issue for our landscaping projects in the past).
We’re doing our yard in phases and plan on calling JV Gardening again for more projects!

We hired Juan and his team for our backyard, frontyard landscaping and fence replacement. Juan is a very thorough, flexible, patient and dependable person. He helped us in realizing our landscaping goal while providing us valuable feedback throughout the landscaping work.
