Garrett is a master with the insurance!!! I had State Farm and when I would call them about a claim they kept me waiting 20 minutes every darn time I called. Who has time for that!!! Then they delayed payment for quite a few days holding up the repairs on my truck. Garrett took the Bull S… by the horns. He took the time (the 20 min wait time) Got the insurance on a 3 way call with me and handed their head back to them on a platter. Money was paid car was done and all is good. And I dropped that insurance. Point being Garrett is the man.
I’ve taken my wife’s car and another car for other repairs at his previous location and never have been disappointed. Garrett is an honest straight shooter and will do whatever it takes to make it right.

This review is way over due and actually the first one I’ve ever been compelled to write on a business because the services were SO above and beyond.
I initially went in to have a repair done on my new car after I ran it into a pole in a parking garage, which messed up my drivers side door and knocked the mirror off completely.
While I was there Garrett noticed a scratch toward the bumper that had occurred while I was not in my car and it was struck while parked in a parking lot.
Garrett explained that if I were to take out two insurance claims he would be able to fix both problems with the car. Each deductible was $ 500. Garrett didn’t charge me for EITHER deductible, fixed all of the dents, cleaned it up, and my car looks even better than when I bought it.
Garrett had also noticed that my dog had chewed up two of my seatbelt buckles and he fixed them as a surprise (which I had been quoted 400 dollars to have fixed at two other places).
In short, Garrett SAVED ME $ 1,500 I would have had to spend (at minimum) anywhere else. On top of that, Garrett is just a really awesome guy; especially as woman, it’s hard to feel like I’m not getting ripped off at car places and Garrett made me feel super comfortable and made the whole process really easy. Insurance companies are not easy to deal with and Garrett works hard for his customers.
I drove my car away with looking better than new, and all of the work having been done for free. Can’t thank you enough, Garrett!!!

Initially I wrote a great review for this place but I was jipped. This place is terrible.

I have used Garrett and High Octane 3 different times and the results are great. He makes sure the work is done to an exacting standard. He repaired my 2009 Corvette twice and I cannot tell where the car was repaired and let me tell you, I looked hard. That is the mark of a great body shop — make it so that it never happened!

Great place to get body shop work done. My right front side of my 2006 Ford Explorer was damaged in an accident and not covered by insurance so I shopped around. Not only did Garrett quote me the best price, he was able to get it done in 5 days. I highly recommend this place.

Needed body work from an accident to my minivan. High Octane/​Garrett gave me a great quote 3x lower in price and 1 week faster than other quotes. At first I was kind of skeptical because it was such a good quote. But I went ahead and they did a great job. My car looks like new (like he said it would). And they finished on time. Get quotes from others then come here.

It took a little longer to fix my car than I had hoped and there was some awkward confusion about payment during the process. However, in the end, my car was returned to me in immaculate shape for a very reasonable price.

Brand new with a dent and scratch doors. Parking lot present. What am I going to do with this! The price to get this fixed is several thousand dollars if through factory. Although, money is not the issue, how am I going to know the factory guys are going to care… they’re hourly and quality control is the manager’s responsibility, not theirs? Point being, it’s very difficult to find a shop that 1) can trust and 2) is cost effective. My story begins when I found High Octane from Unilocal.
I checked Unilocaled, called around and had Garrett soft-​quote me. I checked around some more and especially the price. Alright, let’s have the man look at the car to see if he’s really going to charge the same. What? We can lower the price? At this point I’m more skeptical than ever. But price was good so I made an appointment.
Came down to settle the work request and played 20 question with Garrett. I asked about his experience, history, paint style… everything. What stood out to me was while I was messing around with my many random questions, Garrett was filling out all the forms, explain to me billing and payment, and establishing the appointment with the insurance appraiser. Something about that felt genuine. He could have shooed me off with a «take a number and call us back later» deal.
Took about a week because the appraiser was very slow; she called to tell me it’d take 4 days for her to come stare at the car… Garret finished the work in 3 days. He washed, buffed, clean and wax the whole car… and the wheels/​rims too. It’s showroom gorgeous. Garrett also offered free of charge to buff and wax the car once more later this year so that the new paint can settle in properly.
I hope through my experience, you’d give Garrett the same opportunities as I have. Thanks for reading.

I would highly recommend this shop to anyone who needed any auto body work. Garrett and his team did a great job restoring my 2002 camry which was involved in a hit and run. HE made it LOOK BRAND NEW!!! Extremely professional, honest and just a great person to do business with! We need more businesses in Oakland like THIS!

Best independent body shop in Oakland and the east bay. I have sent over several of my clients to Garret and he has always done a stellar job and made my clients extremely happy. He knows cars and treats your car like it is his own vehicle being worked on. I would recommend this shop to anyone.

Five stars on Unilocal for the real «Star“of this drama… Garrett Boyd! After a bizarre accident that occurred to my «almost new» car while it was parked on a busy San Francisco Street, I learned that although our insurance might cover it… there was such a hefty deductible that it was going to be very costly. Then the process of finding a repair shop only added to the stress and strain. The first three places I went to were very professional, one even served a selection of gourmet tea… but it involved sitting for an hour in the waiting room while they made elaborate notes and estimates… and then told me it might be three or four weeks until they could receive the parts or give me an appointment to take my car in… and yet another week to complete the work.
Thanks to Unilocal,I read reviews about High Octane and decided to go to one more place before signing up a body shop. It made me feel reassured to be talking to the owner of the shop… even more so when I learned that this was a family business with many, many collective years of experience. He has such a great attitude about his work, the community, Oakland and the services he can provide. He was willing and able to take my car immediately, charged much, much less than other places and was very resourceful in his ability to find and adapt parts. A couple of days (not weeks !) later… Done! And beautifully done at that. Are you searching for a place to take great care of you and your car? Garrett and his team are awesome. They helped me fix a heavy scratch in my bumper and side panel. He even went the extra mile and removed a scratch on the side. My accord looked brand new when the job was finished; definitely a high quality job. Garrett was very kind, courteous, and gave me a reasonable and affordable quote. He really accommodated my schedule and even offered a ride to my workplace when I dropped off my car. Everything was completed in a span of around 2 days. I am very happy with his work and I will come back for any auto body repair or detailing needed in the future. Thanks Garrett! :)

The right front fender of my Prius was badly scraped and dented and High Octane was the third quote I got. At first, because their quote was so much lower than all the others, I was uncertain. You know the old saying, «If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.» Well, in this case, the old adage didn’t apply. This shop is indeed too good to be true.
The price was very economical, the high quality work was done at the time it was promised, and best of all, Garrett the owner is clear about both time and money, patient with questions and a warm and engaging man.
I can’t recommend this shop highly enough. Try them. You won’t be sorry!

Since I bought my brand new car two years ago, i had three minor accidents and one vandalism incident when someone keyed my quarter panel. I was angry and anxious that these unfortunate accidents would ruin my brand new car and even when my car was going through repairs, i was always stressing out. But every time I saw my car all repaired and cleaned in front of High Octane, I was more relieved than ever! High Octane and its owner Garrett can always be trusted and he helps his customers deal with tedious and painful processes such as dealing with claims and having to get a rental car. I definitely recommend this shop!

I recently met Garrett and decided to come check out his shop so I’ll have a place to go when I have accident. I found Garrett and his crew very professional and the shop is in a great location in Oakland ‘s auto row. I’ve found the perfect place to bring my car!

I damaged my rear bumper and needed to get it repaired. I got quotes from other body shops for $ 1k — $ 2k (replacing it outright). Garrett fixed it for me for a fraction of the price. Cheapest place to go to by far. He quoted me 4 days, but got it done in about 2. Car looks good as new, and service was fantastic. Highly recommended.

Hugging the guy who fixes your car is not something I usually do. In fact, as I just told my husband, I’m not even sure who initiated it. But Garrett is that good, people. My car looked brand-​spanking-​new.
I was dumb enough to lightly hit a car three weeks ago, completely my fault. After looking for local body shops, I headed to High Octane because of a few reviews and it was close by. I had never been through this process before, so Garrett walked me through what would happen. I was not in the best state of mind after causing an accident, but if you had to deal with someone in this difficult time, Garrett was a great guy to deal with.
Once I dropped the car off, I barely had to think about it. He and my insurance company were in touch, and I just had to go pick up my rental car, and three weeks later, the car was in incredible shape. High Octane doesn’t even have a sign outside, but I highly recommend them to anyone needing a body shop. Not only is the workmanship flawless, but the owner has 20 years experience and is just an incredibly nice person. And I always feel better about giving my business to nice people. I will recommend them to anyone in need of this service.

Several weeks ago, I was trying to open the hood on my wife’s car and accidentally released the parking brake causing the car to hyper extend the driver’s door and dent the bumper of my SUV. My brother had used High Octane for his Lexus and spoke highly of Garrett.
I called Garrent and he took my Mercedes immediately. When he was done, he started on my Avalanche. I thought it would be hassle with the insurance and the repairs but Garrett made it simple and painless. In three weeks time both cars were fixed and shining like new money.
