History

Established in 1949.

In 1949 Myron Jenson along with another business partner decided to start a side business of trimming trees. They soon found that this was a service that was needed in the Bay Area and began a full-​time business.

After 25 years in business and many years of training his son Edward in all he knew, Myron retired, and left Ed at the helm of ETS. From local neighborhood jobs to clearing the way for I-​580 the tree service has now serviced the greater Bay area for over 50 years. Ed’s son Matt, is now being tutored by his father for the future.

Elite Tree Service is a family owned and operated business, in which we plan to continue serving all spectrums, from our neighborhoods to whatever the task is at hand. Our goal is to continue serving both the greater Bay Area and Tri-​Valley Area with integrity, precision and care.

I engaged Elite Tree service, with my neighbors’ agreement, to cut trees on our yard and theirs. When Mr. Jenson arrived he interviewed my neighbors first, never asked me my preferences for how our 60+ year old gingko tree was to be cut and proceeded to dispatch his crew to their tasks. The cut on the gingko was atrocious. It was such a beautiful tree before he got here, now it has holes in the canopy and looks lopsided as he cut the side to my neighbors’ house about twice as short as it should have been. When I objected to what they were doing he threatened to just leave, on the spot. They also did not cut branches off redwood trees that I had asked to be cut, and trampled underlying plants in the beds. I cannot say anything good about the experience.

Last month, I had Elite cut one rogue tree in my garden and prune 2 other trees that needed help. Matt is the person who came to give me an estimate: on time, very professional, knowledgeable, reasonable price. His team came on a rainy day (just my luck, when it hardly ever rains around here!) and cut/​disposed of the rogue tree so neatly I would not even have known they had come by, if not for the evidence of the stump. They came back a month later, smack on time as planned, to finish off the pruning that had been interrupted by the rain. Again, that job was done promptly and neatly. All through that, clear and easy communication via email with Matt. I am quite pleased and quite impressed with Elite’s professionalism!

These guys did great work trimming, pruning and shaping about five trees (including a large Oak) and removing several large Italian Cypresses and a dead Magnolia. They were very knowledgeable and concerned about the health of the trees. They made everything look great, and they were very careful and service oriented. It was not an easy job, because I was in the middle of having a pool constructed and large concrete deck poured. They did a great job working around concrete forms that were in place for the concrete pour the next day. I would highly recommend them and will use them every year.

Always FANTASTIC! We live on what was once an oak grove. Sadly, many of our trees have fallen from the rains or died of old age. We have used several tree services and none of them come close to Elite! Matt always comes exactly when he says he will, Lara in the office is super nice and helpful, and the crew leaves the place looking much better than it did when they arrived. Can’t recommend them highly enough!

Elite once again did a good, professional job at fair price. Matt’s crew arrived as scheduled, were friendly, and did not only a good job taking a giant tree down without damage, but cleaned up extremely well too. I can recommend them and would absolutely hire them again. I was jealous of the wood stool furniture they carved out of some of the tree rounds!

Elite was so great to work with. Matt’s crew was on time, friendly, and did such a good job on my trees. Literally, before I could walk into my house after work, my next door neighbor came over to compliment the job they had done. They were fairly priced, and Matt was very open about my options and didn’t try to up-​sell me into more work than I needed. I cannot recommend them enough; I would absolutely hire them again.

Nothing elite about this place. Corresponded with Sarah to have an estimate done on my property to have some trees removed. These clowns were a no-​show. No phone call, nothing! When I called them to find out ETA, got a voicemail/​answering machine. Left a message but no call back. I had to take time off from work to get this done and they don’t have the courtesy to call and cancel or reschedule? LAME, don’t bother with this place. Totally not worth the time. Oh and Sarah can’t even get your name right. I corresponded with her via email to set the appointment up and she still can’t get my name right. BOO! Better off taking your business somewhere else!

St. Patricks Day, March 17th, the anniversary date of when Elite Tree Service, Ed Jenson, trespassed onto my property without my knowledge or permission, hired by my backyard neighbors, and climbed over my fence and up into my 100 year old giant sequoia, and chain sawed 28 living branches leaving my tree disfigured forever with ugly stumps at the fence line. The sad thing is that this species can never grow back its branches. Three people yelled at him & begged him to stop; but he kept cutting. I had just paid M & M Tree Service $ 1200 five months before, to trim my tree and it looked spectacular, majestic, & magnificent. He has robbed me of all the joy I had in being in my backyard. This father son team may have an arborist no. but there is no arborist here. An arborist takes a hippocratic oath. No reputable arborist would trespass onto another’s property without permission and damage their property. No reputable arborist
would touch a 100 year old tree that had just been professionally pruned. These guys will do anything for a fast buck. There is no integrity in how they conduct their business.

Super easy to work with, and they took care of a bunch of really uncared for trees around our house. The price was reasonable, and all of the trees are much cleaner and in safer shape now. They even took away a huge pile of yard waste that I had planned to throw out without my asking. Highly recommend working with these folks.

Having just bought our first house, I can’t say I’m a tree trimming expert or anything, but facts are facts. This was worth the wait and totally worth the money. The impact of having these trees done is incredible. It’s like we have a whole new backyard.
They cut down 2 trees that were pushing on our retaining walls, and trimmed 3 others. We just bought our first house, and budget is a concern for us, because there’s so much to do. It was obvious that nothing had been done on the trees in a long time, and our neighbors even mentioned what a mess it was the first time we met them.
I can’t put into words what a great job they did, so maybe this will help illustrate it:
Our next door neighbors brought us a thank you present after the work was done. *Seriously*. Our neighbors brought us chocolate and champagne for TRIMMING OUR OWN TREES. Elite Tree Service did such a good job on our trees that our neighbors bestowed gifts on us.
I can’t promise your neighbors will bring you presents, but I know Elite Tree Service will do an awesome job for you.

Did some stump grinding for me, diagnosed a sick orange tree, and gave a great/​reasonable quote for trimming a holly and removing bamboo. Would definitely use again.

I am nearly speechless (but not so speechless I can’t write this review). I called Elite several weeks ago and got an estimate very quickly. They are busy and I got scheduled four weeks later. Worth every moment of the wait! Ed and the crew arrived today at 4:00pm to start a job on three trees. Two nasty, overgrown bottle brush trees and one beautiful 15 foot apple tree in desperate need of TLC. It is 5:36pm and I just paid them. They did an absolutely elegant job on the bottle brushes and the apple is going to flourish next year, I’m sure. And the entire mess is gone… cleaned up to perfection. It was the best money I have spent…
The crew of four were kind, considerate and excellent at what they do. I could not be more impressed. I have many, many more trees that need servicing and I was just trying out someone new. They are permanently my go-​to tree service!

The cost was more expensive than I could have imagined to trim a tree ($ 625), but at the end of the day it looks really good. Elite was priced at market rate based on the 3 bids I received. They made a point of introducing themselves and explaining the work that needed to be done, which I really appreciate. At the end of the job they cleaned up appropriately and even took away extra bushes and limbs I had removed from other parts of my yard.
Unilocal has them highly recommended and I would second that.

Bottom line: these guys are awesome.
Found Elite Tree Service on Unilocal so called them for a quote. Matt came out and gave me a very competitive quote for the removal of one tree and trimming 2 others. Also grinding out 2 stumps and some plants. So, I went with them but had to wait a few weeks because they were booked up. Figured that was a good sign.
Appointment was for 11, they showed up at 10:30. Yeah! Crew of 4 went to work with military precision. They worked really well as a team and were very efficient. Not only did a great job on all the trees, they cleaned up after themselves as well. My trees look great.
Later I found out the team has been together for 10 years and it shows. Good price, great work, friendly service — what more could you ask for. Will definitely call them again for any tree maintenance needs.

Elite Tree Service absolutely lived up to their name! I’m in the middle of an eucalyptus grove and have worked with a few tree companies and Matt and his crew are head and shoulders above.
Their quote was extremely competitive and while others were quoting more than a full day’s work, Matt was very confident they’d be done in one day. I really appreciated the level of detail provided in the quote as well.
Fast-​forward to the day of the job. They showed up on time and had a well-​defined plan on how to tackle the job efficiently and effectively. Quite entertaining for my kids to watch, according to my wife.
I came home a bit early from work to catch up with Matt and they’d already finished, cleaned up, and were gone. They’d even gone so far as to get up on the roof with a blower to clear off debris that came down during removal of a few of the trees.
I’ll definitely be calling Elite Tree Service again the next time I need any tree work done.

Elite Tree was great — I had two huge acacias fall at the bottom of my yard, over the city owned creek. I had a couple of companies tell me they just couldn’t do it, that there was no safe way to do it. Elite came in, gave me a lower price than the others had estimated (had they been able to do it), and brought in a crane, cleared the use of it from the school on the other side (I didn’t have to do a thing), and then came in from the far side. They successfully, safely cleared it all out, and even left me the mulch when I asked for it.
I certainly don’t hope that any other trees fall. However, if one did, I’d call them in a heartbeat.

So I can’t write about his work just yet since our work isn’t completed, but what a nice, honest guy who knows what he is doing. There was a tad delay in calling me back from my initial inquiry, but I was called by a very nice woman who accommodated my request for same day quote. Ed came over at 6 after a long day of work and spent a great deal of time reviewing our property and making recommendations in the interest of beauty and the health of my trees. I got a quote on the spot.
I felt that he knew exactly what to do, which was comforting. It was almost like having your dad (who happens to be an arborist) come over and tell you what you needed to do. Given I know nothing about trees or landscaping, I would be an easy person to take advantage of, and I could just tell that he was honest and cared about making me happy and the trees healthy and pretty.
His quote was thorough and partly itemized, which makes it easier if I decide we just can’t do it all. I’ve received 3 quotes, one that was $ 1K less than his (though it was for less work and I think they are less into the «art» of trees and aesthetics), and one that was more than double his quote!
I would absolutely recommend calling Earl when looking for someone to trim or remove your trees. Solid man and very fair and competitive prices.

Got several estimates from different companies and decided to go with Elite. Elite had the best price and seemed to be the most knowledgeable. I had large Redwood removed and also had the stump grinded out.
Elite arrived on time and completed the work with perfection. I’m very satisfied with Elite’s performance and would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for some tree services.
It was nice to also see that it was a Father and Son team. Thanks Ed and Matt!
