About 3 years ago, I walked into Bangs & Locks, introduced myself to Ami, sat down in her chair and shared with her what I hoped she could fix: a bad haircut that had reduced me to tears on a daily basis. Armed with a drawing of the miracle I hoped for, Ami listened carefully, then washed my hair, and started cutting in a way I had never seen any hairdresser do before. Instead of pulling my hair straight and cutting it, Ami circled around my head, watching as my hair curled naturally. Slowly she cut my hair based on how it curled. Amazing! I walked out that day with a haircut that was exactly what I hoped for. I’ve been a faithful customer since that day and I have never experienced a bad hair day since. In addition to being fantastic at cutting curly hair, Ami is also an incredible colorist. Over the last three years, Ami has worked with me to slowly «lean in» to my gray hair — I am now primarily gray and I love it! I get tons of compliments from friends and strangers alike — I highly recommend Ami to anyone looking for a stylist who listens to her clients.

Ami (aka Jenny) loves cutting hair and it shows. I’ve been going to her for four years.
She showed me that though my hair is thin, it’s plentiful. In order for me to be able to style it on a daily basis, she suggested we thin it out. A lot. It was a bit scary but we did, and suddenly, I can look like a professional woman after a few minutes of work in the morning… OK, so maybe that’s pushing it. I usually have food on my clothes or something. At least, I no longer look like a 15 year-​old whose mother refused her access to the blow dryer.
Ami is also a personal friend and a woman I admire with all my heart. She is great to talk to and I have recommended her to both my sister and my co-​worker. I hear she is opening up another day of appointments and you should call and schedule an appointment with her now, because she is always booked solid. I make sure to schedule my next cut before I leave the salon.

I have been seeing Ami for my hair for 4 years now. I couldn’t imagine going anywhere else. She is a true color artist! My hairstyle has changed over the years while seeing her because I finally trust my stylist to listen to my needs when I get a whim for a new funky cut or color. She has empowered me to try new things. She listens attentively and then executes perfectly. I have gone from a basic red shoulder length bob to a fun, funky asymmetrical pixie with different levels of red and blonde highlights that I would have been a bit hesitant to try before. She is a master at cutting short hair, I always love what I walk out with. It is part of my personality now! And frankly — no joke — I receive compliments on my hair from strangers on a daily basis. When they do I always refer her. I highly recommend Ami!

I have been getting my hair cut by Amber for a few months now, and felt compelled to review! I have a pixie cut, so I get my hair cut all the time. It’s great because you can get a haircut, which is pricey, and then there are free «Bang Trims» between major cuts. I’ve been trying to grow out my pixie and these bang trims have saved me.
Amber really listens, is great for conversation, and the salon is lovely. There’s an aromatic scalp massage at the beginning of the haircut, complimentary beverages. I am so glad to have Amber helping me with my hair, and LOVE the service. Though the parking lot is usually pretty busy, it’s nice to have it there, too!

I’ve been going to Ami (Jenney) for a couple of years now, and I highly recommend her. She’s a master with color– I’m mousey light brown and she makes my hair look fantastically blonde with high– and low-​lights. She does a great cut too — always responsive to what I ask for. I have wavy/​slightly curly hair, and her product recommendations are spot on.

I had my hair cut by Amber. She left it too long in the back so when I called to have it fixed, the stylists who answered assured me I could come in and have it taken care of Saturday morning at 7:45 am. As soon as I walked in thru the door, Amber looks at me with a surprised look and informs me she does not have me on her schedule. I had to wait 2 weeks for this appointment just to be turned away after paying $ 70 + for a haircut I’m not even happy with! Unbelievable! And this salon doesn’t have an answering service so just trying to call to make an appointment is hard enough! Over priced and unprofessional! I’ll take my business elsewhere!

I came in with a fairly complicated, fairly specific idea for a pretty drastic move from below-​shoulder-​length hair to a shaggy-​in-​the-​front, burning man-​worthy crop, and at the same time relied pretty heavily on the expertise of Amber the technical execution and she absolutely nailed it. Thank you!!!

Ami was my hairstylist and I am so pleased! It is the first time in my entire life that I have gone into a salon with a picture of what I wanted and came out with a hairstyle exactly like the picture. I can’t believe it! They say that hairstylists are beauticians not magicians but Ami is a magician!!! She’s an incredible stylist with amazing attention to detail. I feel so much better, I can’t believe what a difference an awesome hair cut can make!

Since I moved from LA a few months ago and parted from my stylist of 3 years I’ve been scared to find someone new to do my hair but I’m so glad I gave this place, and the owner, Laura, a chance!
Laura did my hair twice. The first time she did it she gave me a very nice dark beige, semi-​blonde shade that canceled out the brassiness and previous blonde/​light brown ombré I had. I loved the color and I had gone with her suggestion as to what would be best for my hair to give it a nice shine but I wasn’t specific enough with her so I had to make another appointment to have my hair redone because it wasn’t quite as light as I would have wanted but she happily helped out.
I’m in LOVE with my hair now. Laura bleached my hair longer this time and my hair now is a dark beige blonde, almost has a grey tone to it; it looks so gorgeous, I’ve gotten so many compliments in the last few days! And on top of that, she dyed (I forgot the term she used) my roots and the top of my hair in a diamond shape a dark espresso, almost black shade that just sits on top of the blonde perfectly and blends well with the colors and layers in my hair. My hair has been bleached 2 – 3 hours total in the last 2 weeks but my hair doesn’t feel or look damaged at all! Laura didn’t even charge me when I came back in to have it redone just because she wanted me to be 100% happy with my hair and I am more than 500% happy with it now. I wish I had more cash on me to tip her when I came in.
Definitely see Laura for hair color. She is a bit more pricier than the other stylists but very much worth the investment. She will give you a fantastic color suitable for your skin tone, while giving you exactly what you want, she is an attentive listener and will help you decide what is best if you’re unsure, she is very sweet, doesn’t destroy your hair like some stylists do, and she just knows exactly what she’s doing. Thank you Laura, I will be back to see you again, you are amazing! :)

I can’t say enough great things about my stylist, Delia Huie. She’s been doing my hair for almost a decade and it always looks fresh and amazing!

OMG, OMG, OMG… I am SO Happy!!!
I am SUPER SUPER picky with whomever touches my hair. My stylist quit 7 months ago and YES it has taken me that long to find the right person. I have thick, curly, long hair. Living in a world where a majority of stylists only know straight hair is rough. Its very hard to find someone who can dive into my curly mess.
I decided to see Laura. She listened attentively to my long-​winded explanation of what I don’t like done with my cut and color. I even showed her many pics. After my diatribe she repeated back what I wanted and gave me her views as well. That was awesome because she really listened to me!
The final result was amazing. Better than my previous stylist!!! The curls are gorgeous and the color received a standing ovation when I went back to work! Everyone in my office was asking me where I went!
I really loved this salon and am very happy I put my toe in the water and just jumped in!

Amber is awesome!!! Went in for my consultation a week before my appt and explained what I wanted. Let’s just say my color and highlights have me feeling like a brand new woman. Confidence is on 10 and I am fiercer than ever!!!

Laura did a fantastic job with a color correction (I had a bad experience at another salon before coming here). I had a former ombré gone wrong and just needed to be blonde again. She fixed me right up! She is also very knowledgeable and gave me some great tips on caring for my hair.

First professional haircut in almost 2 years. Amber did a great job and I definitely plan on going back to her! Slightly pricey as far as haircuts go, but with a scalp massage, shampoo and cut it’s worth every penny.

Just got a shampoo and blow dry from Amber as a birthday treat. It was a great relaxing experience, massage shampoo chair, scalp massage, and my hair looks great! Nice and sunny salon and I loved that I could make an appointment for earlier in the morning.

Delia has been cutting and coloring (highlights and low lights) my hair for over five years now. I hope she never moves or retires because I do not know what I would do. Cut it all off and join the nuns?
She is meticulous, fast, professional, honest, and knows how my hair will respond to colors and cuts. At this point, I just sit in the chair and ask her to do what ever she wants, because it will be perfect.
She is also a bargain — friends from San Francisco travel to her in Oakland because her level of experience and skills are so high, and her prices are so fair. (Another reason I won’t leave and don’t know what I’d do if she does.)
And Delia is hilarious. Highly recommend! The salon is cute too, and carries a nice range of Aveda products.

Just got my haircut by Jenney and I love it! I made the appointment super last minute and I was so happy she could accommodate me. She was so nice and really listened to what I wanted. I will definitely be back to see her again. Thanks for the awesome haircut, Jenney!

I love this salon. Laura knows how to cut my hair so that the part of my hair that grows funny and flips up doesn’t. Without her I would invest instead in hats. Lots of hats. Comfortable feel. Good products. Scalp massage! And a great haircut.
