I avoid these places like the plague after too many bad haircuts, but I finally succumbed after feeling too long like I looked like Billy Ray Cyrus. I can’t afford a nice salon on my college student budget so I ended up here. Rosa cut my hair and did a better job than most upscale salons I have been to. She listened and double checked with me many times, asked exactly what I wanted(down to the length of the clippers, if I wanted my hair rounded or squared in the back) and always asked if what she was about to do what was okay. I think that level of communication in a hairstylist is pretty rare. I don’t think you’ll find a lot of creativity in the stylists here, but if you know what you want, ask for Rosa and be clear and she will do it for you. And for $ 24 instead of $ 54.

Don’t like giving bad reviews but I was not so happy with the result. I asked for a specific cut, it looked a bit too long. I asked to cut it a bit more and the lady refused and tried to explain why she left it long. Obviously this is not the first hair cut I have gotten in the past. The place its it’s in a perfect location and convenient. They should try to please their customers a little more.

I’ve been going here for a while and it’s true that not all the barbers here are created equal but Duke is awesome!!!

Horrible haircut for my son. Asked for it to be fixed and it wasn’t. Patches everywhere. It’s like an inexperienced person was given clippers and told to cut my kid’s hair.

Definitely one of my worst experiences. These guys cant cut hair for nuts and they made so many mistakes despite giving them basic instructions… All wrong and they over shaved a part of my sides(around my ears). It was ridiculous. Not recommended. Never go here… unless you wanna mess with your hair

It was a complete disaster. The«stylist» butchered my hair. And the color was not even. If also was not the color I picked out. She blamed my hair for the problems. What? She said my hair has too much gray. Then she said my hair has too much red. I just have red highlights. But coloring should not be affected by those. I did get a recolor it and a refund for the cut. It was a horrid experience though.

I pick and choose which services I use them for. For example, I get color and Keratin with Sam and she does a great job every time. I get my haircut somewhere else, since I have a stylist I’ve been using for years that I like.

I have taken my sons here twice and will not return, which is unfortunate as it is in downtown Oak Park and close to where we live. I’m all about inexpensive haircuts, especially for my 5 and 6 year-old kiddos; however, the last time I tried to take my sons there they begged me not to. They said, «Oh please don’t make us go there; they’re so mean!» I suppose I wasn’t that surprised as I never felt the staff was especially warm and fuzzy as they hardly talked to my kids like they do at other kid-friendly businesses in the neighborhood. They also seemed to rush through the hair-cuts and never asked for my input. I had no idea, though, that the experience was so awful that they never wanted to return! I guess I’ll just keep taking them to the more kid-friendly Fantastic Sam’s in Forest Park.

$ 15 cheaper than my other oak park haircuts, completed in half the time, and no waiting! You are not going to get a fancy styling or much creativity, but you will get quality service quicker and cheaper than most. I also like that the conversation was light and my stylist was too the point getting the cut done.

Great Location! Kenetha was my stylist LOVEHER!!! She really listened to what I wanted, made me look and feel like a million bucks. I really like that she really took her time to explain the condition of my hair and let me feel it as she did the different things to it. Best bangs I have ever had they fall PERFECTLY! I have found my new Stylist!

I went in on a Sunday, about an hour and a half before closing. I’ve never been to this location, or any Hair Cuttery franchise for that matter. I usually go to other places, but this just happened to be on my way home that day. I just wanted to check in, and the woman signed me up for their card and asked me all of my information. I didn’t even want the card, I just wanted the haircut. Afterwards, she told me it would be about a 20 minute wait. So I sat and looked through the books to get an idea of what I wanted. Finally, when it was my turn, I showed the woman, Maria, the haircut I found in the book. I let her know that’s what I wanted with a few minor tweaks. She wasn’t even paying attention when I told her, and she had to ask me what I wanted again. She then argued with me about what I wanted. I just wanted a basic haircut with layers. She kept telling me I shouldn’t even bother if I don’t style my hair everyday. I should have known then that it wouldn’t go so well. I tried to explain that I have thick hair, and it’s easier to take care of it when it’s layered. She ignored me and told me to come over to the shampoo area. She shampooed my head with cold water, and she was extremely rough. She kept pulling my hair and even stated«Wow, you have thick hair.»(Which is why I wanted the layers.) Once the haircut started, she just cut whatever she felt like. My hair is extremely uneven, and she did not layer it what so ever. I’ve been contemplating going back and complaining. After she said she was finished, I asked if she could layer it just a bit, and she seemed angry that I’d ask. I don’t know if she was in a hurry because it was an hour before closing, but it was probably the worst haircut/experience yet.

I went here yesterday knowing there were bad reviews, but I thought«I’m not picky!» and boy, do I regret it. I asked for an inch and a half off my hair and some layers, i guess she got confused about the layers cause she cut the top layer like 4 inches and left the back really long, didn’t make it transition well so it looks like I have a bowl cut and then a mullet. I really am not picky at all, but this was just awful. I probably won’t go back, even to try a new stylist. I went home and made my boyfriend fix it — yeah, I trusted my boyfriend to fix my botched haircut, that’s how bad it was. This woman really needs to learn how to cut hair or get a new job.

Just moved to the area and had my cut my hair. She did an alright job and the price was right, $ 15. After I got home the wife saw some uneven spots and some missed hairs. I need to find a barber around here!

I should have known better… I do not recommend. I took my son here for a haircut because our normal place was booked and he was looking super shaggy. Luckily, he doesn’t seem to care that his hair now looks like it was cut by a two-year-old with pruning shears. It’s the worst chop job I’ve ever seen — kind of like a lawn cut with three different lawn mowers. By the time I realized what an awful job she was doing, it was too late and too short to correct. I could have done a better job at home with the clippers. At least it’ll grow back in no time.

I’m the kind of person who can’t bring myself to make appointments and pay big bucks at a fancy salon. I’ve walked into this place several times and gotten a haircut from whoever was available, and have never been disappointed. I especially like Sayra who has great attention to detail and you can tell she really wants you to like your hair. I always get compliments on my hair and people are always shocked when I tell them I go here and not one of the fancier places. Save money, get a quick cut, and leave happy!

If you find someone here and you like the result, remember their name and learn their schedule! Not all hair cuttery people are created equal. I’ve made the mistake of just going to the first person that’s free — not good. Seems that they get pretty busy on the weekends and weekday evenings after 5:30ish. From what I gather, you can’t really make an appointment, but if you want a certain person and they’re busy, they’ll let you ‘check in’ and then come back at your designated time. Seems like an appointment to me, but hey, what do I know?!

Yes, you have to try out different stylist here to find one you like. I’ve been through several of them, but have found one I really like and have been going to her for a couple of years. She does a great job on my hair and is always willing to experiment with new styles. She also tells me the up side and down side of any new style I want to try. She is usually booked up on the weekend, but I just make my appointments with her during the week in the evenings and it’s fine. I tip very well too which helps — around 30%. Since the prices are low, I feel like I should share some of my savings with my stylist since I’m happy with the work she does.

Wow, can’t believe how bad my haircut was here. Stopped in for a quick cut, told the woman to go short on the sides but longer on top. Obviously, she couldn’t speak English because she proceeded to mow right through my hair with no regard to style or length. So now I have cowlicks on top poking up everywhere like a dork. I was butchered. I’m going to have to pay someone else to fix it. Stay away.
