History

Established in 1973.

Connie and Adrian started this business when their candle and jewelry making became popular enough to open up a shop. When they retired in 2012, Dan and Elizabeth — long-​time employees– bought the place and are currently in the process of making little tweaks here and there.

Hi, I’m Dan. I’m co-​owner and manager of The Mercantile. I’ve been lucky to be in the Mercantile family for a long time — 5 years as an employee and 2 years as an owner!

I feel rewarded when people come in and say «this is just what I wanted!» We make it our job to find fun merchandise that will make you smile.

You might know me as geek who loves role playing games, fantasy and comics but did you know I have a knack for jewelry buying? I love finding good deals so I can pass the savings on to my customers.

The Mercantile has a special place in heart of Happy Valley here in Western Mass. It’s been this way for decades. I’m passionate about preserving its legacy as a fun place to come and shop and proud to carry The Mercantile tradition as a family-​owned company. I get to work with a bunch of really cool people, plus I get to meet all kinds of fun-​loving folk who come into our stores every day looking to find some life’s little pleasures to share or keep for themselves.
