History

Established in 1976.

Silverscape Designs is a landmark in Northampton. Located at the corner of King and Main Streets in a 1928 Art Deco bank building, the reserved exterior belies the stunning interior with its stained glass ceiling and dramatic ornamentation. In 1993, the bank decided that the building was impractical for their business. However, they just could not bring themselves to tear down the local landmark. In stepped Denis Perlman, who not only promised to keep the building intact, but also would restore it to its former glory. Silverscape Designs is proud of its tradition of selling handmade jewelry, especially by American artists, and proud of its beautiful building which in itself is a monument to craftsmanship.

The people at silverscape were so helpful and pleasant! I called here to ask if they had a couple of rings in stock from a company I saw online. They didn’t but they ordered them so I could try them on! They were helpful, quick, and so nice to work with. I had been so frustrated and disappointed that I couldn’t find a wedding ring I liked at any other jewelry store and they made my decision so easy. I will definitely be back in the future!

I had 3 pearl necklaces in need of various stages of repair. One was a double South Sea pearl necklace and I was reluctant to have just anyone repair it. The other 2 are large fresh water pearl necklaces. I inquired about how Silverscape repairs jewelry and learned that they have people on staff, and one person who specializes in stringing pearls. When I brought the necklaces in, the general manger and another store person reviewed what needed to be done. They asked questions and suggested the best way to proceed. They packaged up the 3 necklaces in separate bags with separate instructions. A week or so later I received a call. I was so excited about having the necklaces to wear again. The work was excellent. I highly recommend Silverscape for jewelry repairs. Also, if you are looking for something special, they have a beautiful selection of jewelry and gift items.

We recently went here to purchase our Wedding rings and have to say that this was the most wonderful experience! Kate spent, literally, hours with us showing us different rings and discussing options with us. One of the rings we wanted custom made to set my mothers diamonds into and Kate discussed all the possibilities, and then worked with the different folks to make it happen. This is not the typical service you would get at one of those box stores. This was genuine and thoughtful customer service at its very best. I would recommend Silverscape and especially Kate for any of your jewelry needs!!!

I love looking in Sliverscape. Although I have never purchased anything, I love to look at things with my sweetheart. Today we looked at Garnets and Sapphires. The woman recognized us from previous visits and was so patient and helpful. We were just looking, but it was such a nice experience.

Recherché. If price matters to you (you’re probably in the wrong place), you’ll have to ask as prices are not visible on most items. Lovely designs beautifully showcased. The place certainly caters to the 6 figure crowd, not bourgeois bums like me.

Silverscape has the best customer service i have seen for many, many years.
I first fell in love with Silverscape when my husband (then boyfriend) and I did some window shopping for engagement rings. Although we didn’t buy my engagement ring there, we have been back many times for Christmas and our anniversary (we live in New York). Awushi is the most careful, thoughtful and intelligent sales person I’ve come across. We had some problems with a ring set we bought kept losing some of the diamonds — each time, she received the rings with grace and sent them back to the manufacturer, for replacement, no questions asked.
I look forward to going there every year, it’s part of our holiday tradition and makes my Christmas!

In recent years the quality and service of Silverscape has gone downhill dramatically. They used to be very helpful and always willing to repair pieces. Now they seem to be more focused on high-​end sales than customer service.
If you go in to shop be sure to look like you have some $$$, or it will be a while before someone waits on you. We made a large purchase (engagement ring) at Silverscape and had such a hard time getting them to create a band, after 4 months we had to go elsewhere. Two of the saleswomen I dealt with were very nice and tried to be helpful — the management seems to be the problem.
3 of my girlfriends who have been regular shoppers at Silverscape have stopped shopping there because of the service or lack there of. We all have had good experiences with Larry at the Country Jewelers in Greenfield. He might not be set-​up in a gorgeous art-​deco bank, but his original pieces are fantastic.

Silverscape holds a special place in my heart. On my sixteenth birthday I was given one of their gift medallions (not a gift certificate, but an actual coin) and I picked out a pearl/​diamond necklace that I still wear to this day. Then, for my college graduation I was given a set of the most beautiful opal earrings. I cried. No, seriously.
The gallery is housed in a former bank building and has the most beautiful contemporary jewelry that I’ve seen. Add to that beautiful boxes to hold your jewelry (definitely better than Tiffany’s!) and amazing customer service. Five HUGE stars!
