Description

Specialties

I have trained in a few modalities ranging from deep tissue to energy work. Having worked with many people over time, I have found that it’s not always the modality that counts. What matters most is that I listen to you and become attuned to what your body needs. It is in the partnership — my expertise with giving massages and understanding how your tissue is responding, and your expertise with your own body and how it feels — that the best healing magic happens. I do not practice any of these modalities separately, but I consider them as techniques and «ways of thinking» about bodywork that I blend into a customized massage for you: deep tissue, Swedish, Shiatsu, Polarity Therapy, Breema.

Besides the classic form of receiving a massage at my office, I have over the years done a lot of work with:

–Table Massage

At your school or place of work (teacher appreciation days, corporate thank-you days, healing conventions, midterms/finals relaxation)

–Workshops and Talks

These can be short (1 – 2 hour) or longer, and include the ever-popular «how to give a good head and neck massage» workshop (with hands-on practice and some meditation time)! Those can be good as ice-breakers and as stress-relievers, and are always very appreciated!

History

Established in 1991.

I have happily been a massage therapist in Northampton since 1991. Exactly how my business started is an interesting question, since after college I worked at MIT and then for DEC as a software technical writer … you should ask me that question when you come see me! :) Once I chose massage as my vocation, I trained at the Stillpoint Center School of Massage in Hatfield, MA (1990 – 1991 year). After a brief time working solo in Amherst, I co-founded the Northampton Center for Healing Therapies, a 4-room suite with about 7 – 9 other healing practitioners. Four years later, I started Blue Heron Healing & Massage with 2 friends; after six years, I moved my practice solo to downtown Northampton, to a beautiful office with a private bathroom, where I have been ever since.
