Strawberry Fields

There are not enough good things I can say about this place! The juices are fresh pressed and nothing but fruits/​veggies and gelato/​almond milk depending on what you want go into it.

the gelato is absolutely creamy and delectable. They handmade their gelato several times a day and the flavors are always changing.
they also sell smoothies and acai bowls, which are equally delicious!
this is my new go to place for a frozen treat!

I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS PLACE.
I have been multiple times and it always delivers. Last night I tried the Blueberry French Toast and the Chocolate Mousse; both were exceptional.

This is the best gelato I have ever had!!! It’s so tasty!!! We tried a total of 6 flavors and they were all equally amazing and tasty! I absolutely loved the chocolate orange! The only negative I would give is they are very small and only have one bench and one table with two chairs. I wish there was more seating, but they literally don’t have the room, but other than that everything about this place is off the chart! Do yourself a favor and go get some tasty gelato!

This place was beyond wonderful. I especially love the fact that it was small and simple décor. It is encouraged to have take out for there is only one table to sit at. However the smoothies and Gelato is superb in taste and exceptionally fresh. The staff in the establishment are attentive and friendly. Honestly if your having a bad, good, or just regular olé day please come and stop by and gove this place some business. places like this need to stick arounf because the quality is off the charts. this place is ultimately better than all the other chain frozen yougurt, ice cream, and smoothie establishments I have ever been to. I will definelty be coming back soon!

I have been here a few times and it has never let’s me down. Small little shop but always playing with new flavors. The gentlemen behind the counter are helpful and friendly. I always go for a mix of something chocolaty and something fruity. Always tastes fresh and it makes me sad that we live to far to visit regularly. Definitely a must-​stop when on the Southside.

First trip to strawberry Fields this year and certainly won’t be the last. We had the Stacciatella and S’more. Mmmm good. Very friendly. If you haven’t tried them you need to.

I LOVE STRAWBERRIES FIELDS! Their gelato is SO above any and all Skinny Dips/​Sweet Frogs/​Cold Stone Creamerys out there. Their gelato is high-​quality, inventive, and extremely flavorful. Just last night, I had a small cup of the banana milkshake/​peanut butter Oreo and it was phenomenal. I am always so curious as to how they pack so much flavor into every bite. And every time you visit, you are guaranteed at least two samples of their daily selection. Also, if you follow them on Facebook, they post their daily/​weekly flavors, so you know exactly when to stop in for your favorite!
It is a very small location, which gives it its charm, and honestly, their gelato is meant to take out and enjoy as you leisurely stroll down Colley Ave on a warm spring/​summer evening after dinner. If ever you are craving something sweet and in Ghent, please do yourself a favor and stop in for a cup. Your tastes buds will thank you!

Such gooooood gelato! Omgosh I’m still amazed at how many flavors they have! And their acai bowls are perfect (especially as a post gym snack). Came here every week during the summer after dinner to satisfy my sweet tooth! :) Cant wait to try more flavors.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a really long time. I’ve scrolled through enough pictures to put this on my must-​go-​to-​list. I wasn’t sure what to except when I walked in though. The place was really small and limited to no seating. Not a good place to eat your gelato in the summer, but who cares right. I guess I can walk aimlessly around Colley. Anyways, hubs and I dug right in. We both love our deserts, and he’s down to try any spot I recommend. The staff was nice and friendly even as we continued to sampled countless gelato flavors. I didn’t get a hurry up and pick something vibe. Creating the ultimate flavor combo takes time, you know. Anyways, I got the Peeps and Cream Sickle combo, and he got the Peeps and Oreo Cheesecake. I guess our way of paying homage to Easter. The other flavors were really good too minus the Vanilla Bean.
I would definitely recommend this spot. Will be going back to try other flavors, or possibly a fruit smoothie. This might be my new summer spot!

Gelato beats ice cream hands down! We stop by here every time we go see a movie at Naro. I love that we can try free samples of their flavors that day. You can also get more than one flavor per cup. So if you can’t make up your mind, don’t. There are only 2 chairs and a 3 person bench inside, so it’s definitely intended to be a to-​go venue. They offer fresh juice smoothies, but I’ve only had their gelato.

I have never been much of an ice cream person. My mother used to tell me that when she put a spoonful of ice cream into my mouth for the very first time, I spit it out and cried. I didn’t like the coldness of it.
Later on, when I started going to other childrens’ birthday parties, I would always dread the usual serving of ice cream. I felt obligated to accept it in order to appear gracious and polite. Such has been my relationship with ice cream my entire life.
Gelato, which has been described as an old-​fashioned style Italian ice cream, is beginning to change all of that. The menu at Strawberry Fields further describes it as healthier than regular ice cream, as a result of being made with whole milk instead of heavy cream. To quote the bottom of their menu, gelato is «less about the fat, more about the flavor.»
Their menu also describes the flavor of gelato as being «super intense», as a result of being «slow churned.» This allows less air to seep in, resulting in a a denser and more flavorful texture, and one that is much slower to melt and drip. Gelato is meant to be eaten slowly as you savor every bite.
Strawberry Fields offers their gelato in two sizes. The smaller size is a heaping 6-​ounce serving in a 4-​ounce cup, currently priced at $ 3.65. The larger is a heaping 8-​ounce serving served in a 6-​ounce cup, now priced at $ 4.60.
So far I have only tried one of their gelato flavors, which happens to be one of their special November offerings, described as follows:
AMARETTO PUMPKIN PIE: «Sweet almond flavored liqueur is mixed with creamy pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, and brown sugar.»
These rank among my all time favorite flavors, and I knew I could not go wrong with this one. My favorite pie has always been pumpkin, and its translation to a special gelato flavor was profoundly delicious. The intensity of the flavors and the high density texture made me forget all about the coldness.
A total of 12 different gelato flavors is always displayed behind their counter. Their other special flavors for the month of November include their Frozen Hot Cocoa, Candied Pecan Pie, Apple Cider Sorbet, and Stracciatella. Their Stracciatella is described as follows: «Italy’s most traditional flavor made with the finest sweet cream and topped with crunchy dark chocolate shavings»
I have also been enjoying one of their smoothies during my most recent visits, described as follows:
GREEN MONSTER: «Spinach, kale, banana, fresh apple juice, Greek yogurt.»
The flavors of these ingredients combine beautifully together and provide me with the peace of mind that I am drinking something healthy as well as delicious. Their smoothies are nicely iced, which I find most refreshing, even on a cold day.
All of their smoothies are served with a small dose of honey and are currently priced at $ 5. Whey protein powder is also available for an extra 75 cents, which provides me with an extra energy boost.
A sign on their wall cites that their «Not-​So-​Grand-​Opening» (their words) occurred on the date of May 25, 2012. Based upon the long line of customers I frequently see inside, their business certainly seems to be operating in grand fashion now.
This is a very small establishment, one that often becomes crowded and cramped with customers. One suggestion I have is to consider the addition of one or two more small tables against the walls, especially during the colder months that are approaching. In spite of the small space, I think they will fit nicely without impeding the flow of customers inside.
In closing, Strawberry Fields has become one of my favorite stops along my frequent walks along the Colley Avenue corridor in Ghent.

DULCE DE LECHE and SAMOA gelato?!?
This place is heavenly. Thank goodness it’s in walking/​biking distance so I can at least partially justify going. OK, not really, but there are plenty of bike racks along Colley Ave.
If you’re looking for particular flavors, better to call in advance.
Service always excellent. Gotta time it right to find seating outside, if not at Strawberry Fields’ cute little table, then across the street by the Naro.

Came here last week and tried the Samoa Cookie flavor! This is a must-​try for you Girl Scout cookie lovers. Other flavors I would recommend are strawberry, dulce de leche, and chocolate!
Service is always top-​notch and friendly.
This place remains as my top choice for local gelato!

With greatest, utmost, mythically magical pleasure … Ladies and gentleman, I give to you *drumroll* my LONG awaited review of Strawberry Fields. Let me start out by saying, I don’t like frozen yogurt. I don’t like ice cream. I absolutely despise chocolate. I’m a terrible excuse for a woman. I literally have no «time of the month» indulgences other than heaping mounds of cheddar cheese. Whatevz. Some women take solace in sweets and Nicholas Sparks movies-​made-​from-​subpar-​novels, I take solace in sharp cheddar.
ALAS, I can work with Strawberry Fields. I love it. Strawberry Fields wins MAJOR brownie points with me just for simply being named Strawberry Fields. Every time I turn on the «Across the Universe» soundtrack in my car, it’s almost second nature for me to desire a twenty mile hike to this place. Every time I hear «Straaaaawberry fields foevaaaaaa», I want to call out of work and drive here.
Like I said, I don’t like chocolate. It’s, honestly, gross to me. Maybe it’s the color? Maybe the richness? Maybe the cliché? Whatever it is, just keep that $#!+ away from me … At a fifty foot radius (unless it’s Count Chocula, then we’re talking). Strawberry Fields has really excellent choices for members of the Chocolate Hating Commission of America –like myself.
Especially when they have that peach flavored one. Awww, man, the peach flavored gelato makes me want to *shwiiiiing*! It’s soooo freaking delicious that my eyes pop out of my head like Wild E. Coyote. DELICIOSO to the 9 847 239 487 power!
The smoothies here are very «eh» to me, although my brother goes ape $#!+ for that really popular green one that’s (I think) the first one listed on their menu. But, honestly, it really wasn’t my thing –and I’m quite the fan of veggie-​based beverages. Oh, and they always seem to be closed when I want gelato the most.
But, seriously, who cares?! The gelato is so friggin’ amazeballs that I’m feining for it just typing this (with shaky, trembling hands). Okay, I just officially decided to bail on my plans tomorrow … Strawberry Fields is more important.

Gelato is an Italian ice cream, although there are some similarities between gelato and ice cream. Gelato is made with milk instead of cream. It is churned less so it has less air, thus making it thicker. Lastly, gelato is stored at a warmer temperature, which makes it softer than ice cream.
Strawberry Fields (SF) is located in the business district of Ghent on Colley Ave. Owners Curt and Heather Wynn opened their shop in 2012, and serves homemade gelato, freshly squeezed juices, and fresh fruit smoothies. Their shop is small so it’s really not a place to eat inside.
I love SF’s gelato. Not only is it delicious, and they offer different flavors all the time, but gelato has half the fat and a third of the calories of ice cream. I know! Who would have thunk? If you’re looking for an even healthier option, their juices and smoothies are full of fresh ingredients. They only use a touch of honey in their smoothies instead of other sweeteners.
My favorite thing so far was the Irish Coffee – amazing! I also enjoyed the Peanut Butter Cup. I tried The Bugs, which is fresh carrot juice, mango, banana, ginger and mango sorbet. It was very refreshing and not too sweet.
Go! Right now! Gelato is waiting for you…

Came here because a friend recommended it and I never want frozen yogurt again! This place and their gelato has stolen my heart! I got the stratacelli and birthday cake both DELICIOUS. My hubby got the tropical acai bowl we won’t be going back to Zekes beans and bowls as theirs doesn’t even compare! The Belgian chocolate we sampled was also great! Nothing we sampled was off which is a good indicator of the quality! Can’t wait to try other favors! So happy we found this gem in Ghent!

The man who served me was very friendly and allowed me to sample a few flavors because I was undecided. I went with the coffee and was very pleased. This is a small, clean shop. I dropped in after having lunch across the street. Glad I stopped by. This is really a wonderful little place.

My friends and I decided to take advantage of the nice weather this weekend and pay Strawberry Fields a visit. This place is absolutely refreshing on a hot, sunny day. It’s very modest on the inside with very limited seating; however do not let that deter you because their gelato is awesome. Many different flavor to choose from, and you can sample as many as you like. I wanted something fruity, so the mango and lemon flavors caught my eye (and my stomach). They really fill those cups up so expect a lot. The two friends I was with both got smoothies and they said they really enjoyed them as well. Overall I really enjoyed myself here and I can tell that many a hot summer days and nights in downtown Norfolk will be spent here.

Did somebody say GELATO?!
The only thing I don’t like about this place is that it took me forever to finally try it! We were in Norfolk for other reasons, but after having lunch, we needed dessert of course.
I’d heard many great things about Strawberry Fields from friends, but just never got around to trying it. Main reason being location. We just aren’t in Norfolk/​Ghent area much.
Anyway so we arrive and there was a sign that the place would open back up by 3:25pm. Right before 3:25 pm, the owner arrived. Yay! (There was another couple waiting outdoors with us.)
The place is small and perfect — I love the string lights on the ceilings, the brick wall accent, and the chalk board menu. (They offer smoothies, fresh juices, and homemade gelato.) There is one small table with 2 chairs and a little bench. I imagine that the majority of customers just grab their goodies and go, especially in the summer.
My boyfriend ordered a Pineapple Mango Ginger smoothie and he liked it a lot– he said it blended really well — way smoother than the blending at Tropical Smoothie, and that it wasn’t too sweet either, which he liked. For me…*drumroll*…I ordered a small gelato with these flavors — Belgian Chocolate and Oreo. Can we say amazing!?! I’m not exaggerating either. Perfect flavor and consistency. Rich, dark chocolate flavor, and Oreo was well, Oreo. Combined it was just DELICIOUS. I wish I ordered the next size up.
So far, I’m so very impressed with this place. I look forward to enjoying more flavors when I return!
Just know that if I lived in Ghent, I would be here at least once a week. You should definitely check this place out! You won’t be disappointed.
