This place is freaking crazy. It has all genres of movies and I feel like it has every movie you can think of. I like how they organize there shelves and it makes it easier to find a particular film. I’m into crazy Japanese horror flicks and I couldn’t find this particular movie, «Tomie», in any other video store. I was really surprised that this place had it. Definitely recommend coming here if you are looking for films that aren’t in stores anymore. Keepin it real y’all, just keepin it real.

One of the gems of Ghent. Where else can you stroll around and browse movies organized by such categories as country (looking for a Polish film?), director, or era (fancy something from the ‘30s?) while in the company of your dog? Such a fantastic selection. The prepaid card is definitely the best deal, as it lets you keep movies longer and at a discount. The employees are knowledgeable, friendly, and forgiving (I can’t tell you how many times they’ve reduced my late fees or given me a bonus rental). A comfy and quirky place.

I was from out of town and I wanted to see a movie. I walked in and told the people there that I wanted to see a sea battle film like Master & Commander. They suggested Captain Horatio Hornblower, which turned out great.
During the whole process, I felt the guy behind the counter was irritated and I couldn’t tell if it was about me. Whatever was wrong, it didn’t really matter. I got to watch a great movie for $ 4. They did need to hold $ 50 from my account for some reason, maybe a liability thing.

Naro Expanded Video is amazing! As soon as I stepped inside I was overwhelmed at the HUGE selection of movies available. If you can’t find a movie here, you probably haven’t looked hard enough. Great selection, great quality. My only critique would be that the rentals tend to be expensive (I paid $ 4 for a two day rental of an older film). But because the selection is so good, I can understand the price. Definitely try this place!

Best selection of movies for rent in the Hampton roads area. There collection includes a large number of tv series, documentaries and foreign films as well as quite a few indie and lesser known works. The staff for the most part are very helpful and friendly, though one of two of them aren’t particularly warm. They are very knowledgeable and have their entire collection committed to memory. Considering some films are organized in an atypical manner, such as by director, you may need to ask for assistance.
The place is a bit old fashion. They don’t use computers or other devices to organize their records. Everything is done by hand. You will need to use a credit card to set up an account.

This place has a huge selection and trumps any redbox. The location is nice and there are some good weekly deals. It’s nice to have a movie store still in existence!

My wife and I love this theater. The movies our educational and the popcorn and cashews are wonderful.

Tell the very knowledgable staff the way you want to feel watching the movie and they will provide you with several options of what to watch.

I just moved back to Ghent this year in January and the first thing I did was get a membership again at this awesome little video store. I love the people that work at the store and they all have different tastes in movies so asking them for a suggestion can result in a wonderful find. I personally love the selection of documentaries the Naro offers. I get a block of rentals for 48 dollars and some of the people around remember my name, how nice…
If you want extras and a selection of cool and unusual movies you should get a membership and get funky, strange, and weird movies. Or you can rent new releases and see all the cool DVD extras.
They even have crazy cartoon adult fair from Asia, or movies from the beginning of time, this place has a ton of cool video’s.
If you still have a VCR, this place has a butt ton of VCR movies you can buy, and god bless if you still are working with that format and why are you on Unilocal,you should check out this thing «call waiting» it’s awesome.

I cannot remember the last time I found myself perusing the aisles of a video store. My goodness if feels like a pastime from childhood. I must admit that I have not yet had the pleasure of experiencing the excellent customer service, or the pure joy of renting a movie I’ve longed to see but was not able to find anywhere else. My visit here simply had to do with timing and its proximity to Naro theater.
The NARO THEATER movie tickets go on sale 10 minute before the show. If you’re wayy early for the show, what better thing to do than to pop into the video store next door. If you’re with a friend, relative or date, peruse the titles reminiscing/​comparing your favorite movies, actors and TV series. You may learn a few new things about each other. You watched the same TV series’ growing up, you’ll be introduced to new «must see» shows, and so much more.
Also they allow local businesses and colleges/​universities to post their news/​events in the store. So if you want to be «in the know» check it out and get a flick to go.

I remember when this was a little shop. Now it can really hold its own against red box. The unique selection of movies are unparalleled buy any chain movie rental store. I was happy to add my blockbuster card to the mobile.

Best video store EVER! Sure you can download a film or stop by one of the rouge boxes but they will never hold a candle to the massive selection offered by Naro Video. Aisle upon aisle of foreign films, classics, documentaries, current hits, movies about books, movies by director, pretty much anything you can imagine. Also, Naro Video has the most knowledgeable staff you’ve ever encountered. You can actually say «I’m looking for that one movie with the guy who does that thing» and they know what you’re talking about. Naro Video is also a place to take a chance on films you normally wouldn’t think of. Definitely get their movie card as it is the least expensive way to rent and it lasts forever… no, seriously, forever. I once had a card, moved away for a while, came back, and they still had my card on file with room to rent.
If you are a first timer they will take your credit card and put a $ 50 authorization on it which lasts for about 3 days so don’t freak out. Oh, also, when you are walking around look for the little plaque honoring Steve Bridges. He worked there years ago and helped contribute to their collection back in the day.

I know everyone uses Redbox and Netflix now… I’m definitely guilty of it. But when I want to go somewhere, walk around, browse, and find videos that Netflix definitely doesn’t have… I go here. This place is AMAZING. Amazing customer service and a redic collection of movies. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a video store organize their videos by «90’s Comedy» or «Patrick Swayze movies». It gives it a more personal feel, too, when the staff of Naro have their favorite picks. It has the perfect collection of movies for any mood and any night. This is truly a fantastic place– long may you live, naro expanded video.

I have Netflix, I have about 500 movies at the house, I rent from Redbox, I go to the theater, I watch tv… but I come here all the same. Sometimes you just need to wander around the aisles of a video rental.
They have the greatest selection that I have ever seen. The staff is amazing, the little french bulldog that stops in every once in a while is the crown prince, and it’s really a great deal. If you buy the prepaid card, the rentals are like $ 2 for four days and during the weekdays the have a rent two get one free rental. A prepaid card also gets you a BOGO theater ticket.
This is one of the last giants of a long forgotten memory of our collective childhoods. If for no other reason, support this beautiful representation of all that is right with the world.

They have just about every movie you can think of here — mainstream, independent, old, new, foreign, television series, etc. And if you can’t think of the name of the movie or show, describe it to the staff and most likely they will be able to tell you what it is. And they know exactly where to find it among the seemingly endless selection. They might look a little unhappy while doing so, but they will help you if you have the patience.
I’d recommend using cash when you rent from the Naro. That, or sign up for membership which will save you some money in the long run if you plan to frequent the store. They don’t have a computer here, and it looks like they plan to keep it that way.
I was going for a 3-​stars rating, but threw an extra star for Mason the dog. (Hey! I can’t help it… he’s adorable.)

If you want a movie, they’re got it. If you can describe a movie, they know. The staff expertise is very impressive and although I get anxiety walking in the place (I’m not a movie buff and half the time, I’m just following my husband’s lead) it has the old school feel that I wish was more prominent nowadays.
If you buy a pre-​pay card, you do save money in the long run and they always run offers during the holidays like buy 1 prepay card get one ½ price or free… I can’t remember.
Monday-​Thursdays they also have rent 2 get 1 (non new release) free so definitely take advantage of that!

Not much to say here. Kudos for a video store still being in business. I mean there is a Redbox at every grocery store and 7 – 11. With the advent of Netflix, Hulu and several other websites to stream movies and TV shows everything is pretty much at one’s fingertips. They have an extensive selection of movies and TV shows. Even more impressive was that they operate without a computer in the store. I suppose the old school theme resides here…
With an extensive selection of everything I’ll add that they do carry new releases and seemed to have more inventory than Blockbuster (do physical Blockbuster stores still exist?).
The place only gets an A-​OK from me because the guy behind the counter was quite rude. My girlfriend who was picking out a movie said the people working are always grumpy. I guess you can be that way since you’re one of the few video stores in town… OR since one could use the web to watch most things you would be more pleasant.

This is the kind of place you long for. Character. Mystery. Depth. Go there. Roam. Strike up a conversation with anyone else in the store and you’ll be glad you did. This place is like Seinfeld’s diner. If you have company from out of town take them there as part of the Norfolk tour.

This is without a doubt one of the best video stores in the entire United States. It has amazing depth and breadth — clearly, this is a store owned by someone with a deep passion for film.
When I first went into the store, I was going through a Hong Kong film craze. Living in the Bay Area, this was easy to satisfy. However, when I was visiting and walked into the Naro Expanded Video, I was shocked to see how amazing their collection of films was.
Another film passion of mine is Japanese cinema from 1920 – 1950. I was trying to find a copy of the «Human Condition» series (by Masaki Kobayashi). Couldn’t find it locally. Went online to buy the movies — DVDs were out of print and $ 200+ apiece. Who had it? Tim at the Naro.
If they had mail service, I would rent their movies from across the country in California!
Those of you who live in Norfolk and can go regularly, or even better, live in Ghent and can *walk* over are incredibly lucky. Treasure this store — it’s a real gem.
