This is my 100th review! I’m proud to review this place as I have been a customer to the wards corner store for over 25 years. Karla was at that location (in the 90’s) and was my unofficial «doctor»!!! Lmbo! She was amazing!!! I was in college at the time and I had lost my mother to breast cancer. I was a serious hypochondriac! Boy, did Karla deserve at least a «co-​payment» from me! She was very patient with all my fears, questions, and issues!!! Karla is very knowledgeable about «everything»!! She is an excellent listener! If the store doesn’t have what you want most likely she will be able to order it. Do yourself a favor and make this your «personal» health food store. You will not regret it!

I haven’t tried the food upstairs from the café, but I did peruse the menu and a lot of things looked good. I do remember noting that some of the things seemed like they would be very sweet/​high calorie/​expensive.
Downstairs however, is my current go to spot to restock my bulk spices. Their selection is decent and they are close to my house and the people working the counter are always friendly.

Firstly, the smoothies were great. I ordered the key lime pie smoothie and my friend got the green apple. However, the woman working the juice bar today seemed to be in the middle of a bad day. We said hello and she ignored us, except for the dirty looks, makijg us feel uncomfortable. Then after we ordered she looked down and never really acknowledged that she was for sure going to make the smoothies. This honestly made being there awkward for us. Other than that the place was really cool and endearing.

Pretty impressed with this little gem! Upstairs they have a little tonic-​style bar that has a large variety of all things liquid, pure and tasty! I ended up ordering a smoothie, can’t remember the name but it had good quality whey protein (I think), almond butter, dates, banana and cacao nibs, cinnamon. It was sooo yummy! I would have preferred a larger drink size had they offered it and wouldn’t have a problem paying for it. Great meal replacement!
They probably could get more business if the signage was larger. I drove by that place for several days and never saw that they had a juice and smoothie bar upstairs. I asked the Pita Pit down the street where there was such a place and that’s where they sent me.
Go. There. Now. No guilt.

I anticipate coming here regularly because I prefer to support the local independent businesses over the big guys. That said, the selection here is really limited (no setian? no tempeh?) and the prices are what you’d expect from a health foods store (high!) I imagine a lot of that has to do with having a large space in Ghent.
They DO offer a 5% discount to frequent customers, which I appreciate. And the staff was exceptionally friendly, helpful, and accomodating.

I am not into the 2010’s health food craze, but my 19 year old son is! He comes here whenever he can to get his fix ;) It’s a little pricey, but that’s part of the allure, right?

I’m embarrassed, but as larger grocery stores have begun to accommodate vegetarians and vegans, I’ve started to shy away from my local stores, drawn to the lower prices. Despite that, no matter how commercialized and trendy vegetarian food is becoming, some things will just never make it to those mega stores.
When I want something nowhere else will have, the Health Food Center on Colley has it. They always carry my favorite flavors of Soy Delicious, cookies and vegan jerky. Upstairs, Rowenna’s has scrumptious sandwiches and smoothies to munch on while I shop. I may be a cheater, but this Health Food Center is loyal to the end.

The Health Food Center is a delightful little market where you can get lots of organic, vegan, and healthy foods and supplements that you might not be able to find elsewhere. I wish their selection was a bit better, but out of all the obscure things I’ve needed, they’ve only been out of one.
There is also a small diner upstairs which is absolutely adorable, though I have not had a chance to eat there yet. I will update my review once I do!
