Hands down the best cakes in Massachusetts! We ordered our wedding cake from The Icing on the Cake, so it was no question that I contacted them to order a cake for my husband’s 30^th. The cakes here are so incredibly moist and tasty. I ordered a cake over the phone and had no clue what it would look like, and had full trust that a golf themed cake would be decorated beautifully, and it was! My husband’s favorite is the heath bar cake, which isn’t on their regular cake menu but can be made special-​order. This chocolate cake with the chocolate — heath flavored filling is to die for. All of our guests commented on the taste of the cake and the decorations. I highly highly highly recommend. It may be more expensive than other bakeries, but definitely worth it!

If you want wedding cake that is so delicious that pieces fly off the tray and completely disappear, this place has it. My husband and I got married on ¹⁰⁄₂₄ at the beautiful Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge. We met with Paula to have a cake tasting about a month before. We both had had long days and were kind of cranky going in. The moment we met Paula we were both instantly cured of the bad mood. She is so good at her job and loves what she does so much that you can feel that energy instantly. We tried several types of cake and had a hard time deciding which flavor to pick. So we picked five of our favorites and served our guests beautiful fall cupcakes! Paula and her team did an amazing job of giving each flavor of cupcake its own decorated theme, like acorns and leaves for chocolate hazelnut. The presentation alone was stunning. But these cupcakes not only looked gorgeous, they tasted amazing!!! So flavorful and delicious. I thought we might have a couple of leftovers at the end of the night but NOPE! Paula explained that they don’t use food coloring but instead use natural methods to give color to the cakes. You can taste the high quality and people were raving about them. I highly recommend The Icing on the Cake because every wedding couple deserves to have a beautiful cake that tastes great too!

Just received some cupcakes at work as a gift. The tiny typography – done in frosting – is outstanding!
I cannot eat these but co-​workers are thoroughly impressed with the cupcakey deliciousness.
Someone literally just walked by and said, «That might be the best cupcake I ever had».

Called to order a birthday cake for 40 people, 5 days prior to the event and they were willing to accommodate. Due to the time constraint however, they couldn’t add more elaborate decorations, but the birthday balloons were good enough.
We chose the lemon velvet flavor and thought it was amazing.

We did cupcakes for my daughters birthday and asked for mermaids and fish and octopus, etc… and they did it. Half chocolate and half golden cake… so delicious and beautifully done
Looking through their other designs and things they have done, as well as choices for cakes… they are amazing.
Prices are not cheap but quality is fantastic.

This is the most amazing bakery. We got a bday cake for my son’s 11^th bday party. He wanted an Xbox controller on the cake. They made it in 3d! It looked so great and tasted delicious. Everyone raves about it. I can’t wait to order another cake for our next event. Fabulous!

WONDERFUL! We used TIOTC for our wedding cake and cupcakes. Paula took one look at each of my Pinterest pins for what I wanted and said «Yeah we can do that, no problem.» And did! Guests of the reception are still telling me how good the cakes were — the frosting was amazing, the cupcake «buttons» with the peacock feathers drawn on were impressive, the layered cake was beautifully decorated, etc. And I so appreciated their flexibility with my and my husband’s nut sensitivities with our carrot cake layer! Even better, they were very affordable in comparison with other bakeries we looked at. We still stop by occasionally to buy cupcakes they have for individual sale and we are very much looking forward to our one-​year anniversary cake to be made by them — shop here!

Paula is absolutely amazing to work with, and the cakes and cupcakes are second to none. My family has been going to The Icing on the Cake for birthdays, holidays and anniversaries for years, so when it came time to decide who to select for my wedding cake, I didn’t have to think twice!
Our wedding cake was greater than anything I could have imagined! Every detail was executed meticulously, and they could not have been easier to work with throughout the entire process. If every vendor I had was this helpful, the wedding would’ve planned itself! I could not have been luckier, too, being that the Icing on the Cake was one of the options in my vendor’s package. We got so many compliments on the beauty and incredible taste of the cake, and I truly could not have been happier!

I ordered a cake from here for a work event and it came out amazing! I asked for simple, they kept it very simple and it was delicious. I would highly recommend this bakery to anyone looking. I think this is the new «cake place» for my work parties.

Through our wedding package we were introduced to IOTC. Phenomenal. Wedding cake was amazing. Fast forward three years. Baby. You know what babies need? Birthday cakes. Like a couple of slackers we waited until the last minute to order the cake. IOTC saves the day with a beautiful «hi kitty» cake. Fast forward another year, furry baby turns ten. IOTC delivers again. Do yourself a favor and get your baked goods here.

I worked with Paula (owner of Icing on the Cake) for my wedding this past spring. All I can say is WOW! Her cakes are truly delicious. At the tasting, we had so many options to choose from that it was hard to narrow it down to just three. In the end, we chose red velvet, orange grand marnier, and golden amaretto. She worked with us to create the exact look we were going for and in the end, she delivered! It was a stunning 4 tier cake. My only regret was that I didn’t get a chance to eat second slices of each flavor on the night of my wedding. I highly recommend Icing on the Cake to all brides or for any other special occasions!

Ordered a 3D princess carriage cake for my daughter’s birthday and loved it. We went in the store less than a week before her birthday and they were able to make the cake on time.
We ordered the white cake with starwberry fillings and everything was very fresh and not overly sweet. The vake was also bigger than I expected. Only down side was that the carriage was just a ball of cake. If only the carriage also has the filling, it would be perfect.

The Icing on the Cake is the best bakery around. I used them for my wedding cake, and I was so happy with the results. Paula, the owner, really listened to what we were looking for and really delivered. The cake was delicious!

It was a nice experience to work with Paula. Very professional and she gave us a good price for a wedding cake. The cake was delicious and lot of guests complemented us on it. I would highly recommend because the experience, quality, and appearance was excellent.

Ordered a birthday cake here recently. The cake tasted fine, not delicious, but certainly not bad. There were design details (the wording on the cake) from an email I had sent that were missed, which was disappointing. The rest of the design was adorable. They did a nice job.
Overall, just an OK experience and when spending as much money as I did for a child’s birthday, I was expecting an excellent experience.

We chose The Icing On The Cake to provide the wedding cake in August 2013. We could not have been happier with the results. The staff was extremely helpful as we looked at the many options for the design and flavors. The end results was phenomenal. The cake arrived at The Henderson House as promised and was displayed on top of the grand piano just off the main staircase. The cake looked amazing, but the best part was that it tasted even better than it looked.

Newton is a tough crowd when it comes to bakeries! I think that this is an amazing bakery. They do such creative cakes it is like edible art. They are a thing of beauty. Some of the unique cakes they have done for clients are simply incredible. The beauty of this bakery is that the cakes taste EVEN BETER than they look, which is saying something significant in my opinion. Bakeries can use ingredients that look good and are easy to utilize or they take the time to create a work of art that also passes the taste test. This bakery does both.
I have been on a red velvet kick lately where that is my cake sample of choice when attending a tasting with a client or researching caterers and bakeries for events. This bakery has it spot on. Using fresh ingredients and REAL cream cheese. (Yes, it makes a big difference). I have never experienced a «dry» cake as they make all their cakes fresh and moist. In addition the bakers are open to and even encourage unique ideas for cakes.
This store is deserving of a 5 star rating.

Gave them a idea of what I wanted on the cake which was a little out of the ordinary. Hippo jn a bikini on the water, It was more than I expected and the cake was moist. The customer service was also very good. I would recommend

We had our child’s birthday cake made by TIONC. The staff were very friendly and prompt in getting back to me with quotes and timeframes.
The cake was unbelievable — looked exactly like the picture I had sent them and best of all it was absolutely delicious — amazing butter cream frosting with chocolate and yellow cake.
Highly recommend for special event cakes.
