My Madison loves Dan and his team so much. On the first home visit with Dan he provided me with a list of items I needed to purchase in order to puppy proof my house. Once I purchased all of the items and set up my house the way Dan instructed me to I was so happy. Our puppy now has her own designated areas in the house and outside. Madison also went to Dan’s all day training sessions every other Monday. The very first two times I dropped her off she was very shy and not that interactive. Dan and his team were very patient with her and after her third time being in class she was very active and playful.
During the holidays we were around a lot of people and a lot noise. Madison was very calm and she did not bark at all. I attribute her good behavior from her socialization training she received from Dan. I would definitely recommend Dan as a trainer to anyone. If Madison and I need a refresher course I will definitely give Dan and his team a call.

Our dobie died suddenly, so we got puppy right away. It had been 10 years since we had dobie pup. After 3 weeks with Buzz, we decided we were too old to deal with his energy, dobieness, etc. and should find him another home. Then we found Dan, had home training and now Buzz has weekly training at his facility. Dan & his staff have done remarkable things with Buzz over these last few months. He is socialized with all sizes dogs, listens to us (more often than not –as he still is a puppy) and we are all so very happy and thankful the the amazing transformation! Best thing about it, is Buzz LOVES to «go to school» there.
Thanks to Dan we are a very happy family.

I can’t say enough positive things about Dan or his staff. I have a 2 year old Victorian Bulldog that is very social but stubborn. Dan has been working with her since she was a puppy and each time he works with her she continues to improve. We also board her there when we travel. When your dog gets excited as you pack their things to go, jumps eagerly out of the car charging the gate, wagging their back end in a fury, you KNOW their happy and well taken care of. For this and his amazing staff I am so truly grateful to have found them!!! Very special place!!!

I have been using Dan from kind to canines for the last seven years. He helped me train my last shepherd who came with many issues into an amazing well behaved dog. Unfortunately I lost him to cancer suddenly this last February. I did not wait long and purchased my new shepherd «Ace» at 10 weeks. Dan was at my house where he told me how to set everything up prior to bringing my puppy home. He did home visits prior to me being able to take him in for day training. I have had the most positive and relatively easy experience with this puppy because of Dan and his methods and instruction. I absolutely would not have had the amazing outcome I have had without Dan and his staff. Ace now goes in to weekly training sessions and is 6 months and amazing for his age. So well behaved. Dan from Kind to canines has a very calm and structured environment for these dogs which results in an amazing outcome. Ace would not be the amazing pup he is without this amazing training from Dan and his wonderful staff. I am forever greatful ! Would absolutely recommend Dan to those who want an amazing outcome with your dog.

I have been taking my dog there for over 3 months. She is a Shepard/​Collie mix she was a rescue dog. She was scared to death of other dogs & people. She goes twice a week and she can’t wait to get into there. Dan and his staff area very gentle with the animals have not seen one yet that is not happy to go. If you need help for any reason or just need boarding I would highly recommend them.

Dan and his staff are wonderful. Dan trained our dogs and we have been taking them there for boarding for 11 years. Dan and his staff always greet our dogs by name and the dogs are always happy to go. The dogs come home healthy and well loved, having had lots of play time and happy to go back again. Always a good sign when your dog enters training wagging his tail and looking excited. Dan and his staff are happy, friendly, knowledgable, dog loving people who clearly love their work. Started taking our puppy on a weekly basis for day training as soon as he was fully vaccinated. We adopted a mixed breed dog who had been taken from his mother too early (5 – 6 weeks) and, even though we are experienced dog owners, we wanted to avoid problems before they started by getting some professional help. Our dog is nine months old and gentle as can be with little children, even though we don’t have any in the house. He gets along really well with other dogs and is a joy to have in the family. Best dog ever :)

Dan is simply amazing. I brought my 2.5 year old dog, Stella, to Dan after her behavioral issues resulted in an aggressive act. She is a lab mix with anxiety/​fear/​aggression issues. I had worked with other trainers since Stella was a puppy, but her issues were escalating rather than improving. Dan was, quite literally, our last resort.
After a thorough consultation and evaluation, Stella was boarded at Kind to Canines for 1 week. During that week, I visited several times and worked with Dan and Stella (at no extra charge!). Stella was happy and relaxed and clearly enjoyed working with Dan and the staff at Kind to Canines. The improvements were immediate and surpassed my expectations.
Over the past ~4 months, Stella has spent a total of ~4 weeks at Kind to Canines and we’ve had a few in-​home lessons and group walks. Stella is a completely different dog. She is able to walk with a loose-​leash (she is a strong, 70 lb dog and her pulling was quite a problem), ignore the barking neighbor dogs at the fence, «go to her bed» and stay with distraction, greet me at the door without jumping, etc. Her biggest challenge was leash-​reactivity to other dogs (growling, lunging, pulling, etc). Walks were becoming quite stressful and challenging. We can now walk by dogs (of varying energy levels) and completely ignore them. This transformation is beyond my expectations — to see such major behavioral changes in such a short period of time is just amazing. She went from this nervous, insecure, frazzled dog to a mellow, happy, zen dog.
I give Dan so much credit for working not just with Stella, but with me as her owner. He has really taught me to be the kind of «parent» that a dog like Stella needs. He is honest, patient, supportive, and is very generous with his time — answering my many questions by phone, email and in person.
I really cannot say enough good things about Dan, the Kind to Canines facilities, and his amazing staff. It goes without saying that Dan and his staff clearly love and care about the dogs in their care. The facilities are clean and well-​organized and Stella loves socializing with the other dogs there. Without any hesitation, I give Dan and Kind to Canines my HIGHEST recommendation.

I had a fear aggressive dog who didn’t like men. I was worried about Dan training him, as he’s clearly a man, but my dog took to his calm demeanor and completely fell in line. Dan really trained me on how to deal with my dog and I was amazed at the fast progress. I will use Dan until that man retires and, even then, will beg him to train my dogs, even when he’s 103-​years-​old.

Dan is a fantastic trainer. He understand dogs more than any trainer I have ever encountered. I cant say enough good about him. I took my 4 year old Golden Retriever/​Chow mix to Dan after my dog bit several people. I was at my wits end with what to do about it and was on the verge of putting my dog down. I chose to leave my dog at Dan’s kennel for a few weeks to let Dan work with him before showing me how to work with him at home. My dog came back an entirely different dog. He was obedient, happy, and his aggression problems were gone. I can truely say Dan saved my dog’s life. After seeing what Dan did with my dog, I am a firm believer that he could rehabilitate almost any dog.
Dan’s methods do require consistency from the dog owner. If you dont follow what Dan has taught you, you cant expect your dog to. This is true with any training though. If you arent consistent, your dog is not going to be consistent.
Not only does Dan show a genuine concern for my dog, he showed a genuine concern for me as well. He was prompt in returning calls, answering questions and was very generous with his time. He is reasonably priced and does not nickle and dime his customers. He is worth every penny I spent.
Like some of the other positive reviews, I am surprised the first review on here calls Dan dishonest. That is absolutely INCORRECT. Dan is honest and caring, both with his customers and their dogs. My dog stayed at the Kind to Canines facility for 4 weeks during initial training and multiple day sessions after that with ZERO problems. I sympathize if the first reviewer dealt with health issues with her dog but Dan’s facilities are clean and well run and any health issues should NOT be attributed to Kind to Canines.

I’m a dog walker and have 3 dogs of my own. Dan has helped our pack be well behaved, social dogs.
Our hound dog was fearful of strangers (especially men), loud noises (skateboarders, construction, even the sound of a bicyclist unclipping his shoe at an intersection). We tried a few other trainers 1^st but our nervous hound was shaking during the initial sessions. We found Dan thru word of mouth.
Our hound dog goes to Kind to Canines once a week for daycare and training reinforcement and has improved tremendously. He is no longer reactive to loud noises and was happy & comfortable greeting trick or treaters at our door this Halloween.
Dan also helped us when our 5 year old lab became leash aggressive. With his guidance the issue was resolved. We can pass by dogs barking and jumping at their gates with ease.
Dan is a behaviorist — not just a trainer so he can handle everything from basic obedience to aggression towards other dogs or people. Some of my dog walking customers also found Dan thru word of mouth before I began recommending him. His training techniques vary based on the nature of the dog and the owner’s ability to follow through.
Almost all of my dog walking customers are pleased with the results. Only one (Mr & Mrs B) switched to a different trainer. The dog listened to Dan but not the owners. Hmmm wonder who wasn’t working with the dog to reinforce the training. Mr & Mrs B took their one year old golden retriever to another trainer that has a more traditional aversive style. The young golden retriever still tugs and jumps and doesn’t listen to his owners.
I think Dan’s approach is perfect for puppy socialization (and dogs of any age). Dogs come to the kennel once a week for day care/​training. They get to play with other dogs, learn how to properly greet dogs and ignore distractions. You get tips for what to practice at home. It’s daycare supervised by a behaviorist and his knowledgeable staff. Not the free for all at a doggie daycare style facility.
The kennel is clean. The staff is responsive and experienced. I’ve picked up and dropped off several dogs for boarding including my own and the dogs are happy and eager to go into Kind to Canines and visit their buddies. They only board training clients. Kind to Canine’s groomer Ty is wonderful with bathing our nervous hound dog. I wouldn’t take him to anyone else for bathing and nail trimming.
I was surprised that the 1^st review claimed that the owner is dishonest. My experience over many years is that Dan has integrity and truly cares for his customers. I am regularly asked to update proof of vaccinations. Dan has donated his time to rehabilitate rescue dogs and place them in the right home with no fanfare.
Kind to Canines does not offer group training classes. There are opportunities to practice with fellow clients with group outings. Their prices are reasonable for private lessons and daycare/​training. I work with one trainer that’s initial consult is 3 times the price of Kind to Canine for an at home visit.

Kind to Canines and Dan are terrific! My four dogs have received the best treatment and care over the years. I cannot imagine taking my dogs anywhere else for boarding and training. The kennel is top notch and boutique! Each dog also gets training while boarding and Dan takes special care and knows each dog. I have taken my dogs to Kind to Canine for at least ten years and Dan has the utmost integrity and will always strive to do the right thing! Highly recommend.

Dan is the greatest! He understands dogs, their behaviors good and bad, and how to create a great relationship with your canine friend. He has helped my dog become obedient by helping me know how to work with her. I would strongly recommend Dan and his staff to help you for basic and advanced training. They also have a groomer, Tye, who comes to the center and you can have your dog groomed during the day.
