Paleio is the Ironbound’s only Portuguese Bistro. It offers a unique, delicious menu composed of dishes from all over the Portuguese Speaking world such as Portugal, Brazil, Africa and Asia. Paleio’s chef, who hails from the cod-loving city of Porto, is also renowned for her codfish dishes, including the addictive Bacalhau com Natas. For the meat-lovers, Paleio offers oversized Filet Mignons, «Gaucho-style» Slow-Roasted Beef Ribs and Choice Steaks prepared over their charcoal grill. To finish, Paleio’s Signature Caipirinhas of assorted flavors and smooth Sangrias are known for being tasty, refreshing cocktails perfect for Happy Hour and after dinner drinks.
History
Established in 2003.
In late 2002, Paleio’s owner wanted to provide an establish that offered a light-hearted social ambiance coupled with non-standard Portuguese Cuisine. Being one of the first establishments marking the beginning of Newark’s «Renaissance» era, Paleio set the standard on food, fun and friends.
The menu is authentic and unique. Offering over a dozen cod fishes daily as well as dishes from through the Portuguese speaking world allows for flavors that stem from South America to Europe to Africa and to Asia.
It’s famous reputation of providing excellent food still maintain to this day.
