I stopped in at Zana’s on the regular on my way to the 7th Ave subway stop(literally 2 seconds away…) for the last 10 months of my life… mostly just to reduce the amount of spilled coffee from my apartment to the actual subway car. But I was pleasantly surprised by their large coffee… only 2 bucks and they added the sugar and steamed milk for me! I’ve tried their desserts too… they have a delish flourless chocolate cake, but my favorite is the chocolate mousse cake. They are pricey… about 4 bucks each… but so worth it. Zana’s is TINY and often there isn’t enough standing room for 4 or 5 people in there. So, I wouldn’t suggest going in there with an oversized tote or even some carry on luggage… not that I have ever done that.

The spinach cheese croissant is the most awesome fast breakfast. It’s filling and tasty and it has spinach so I can pretend it is healthy. The coffee is good too. Also, the fact that it is right off the F/G train is pretty sweet.

I am going to review the 3 bakeries with in a block of each other based on 3 different criteria. I go to all for different things. The criteria is pastries, coffee and freshness. The Star rating are being given on curve of these 3 bakeries. ZANA, best large coffee of all three. A large coffee is 2 bucks and *drum-roll please, they froth the milk for a large coffee and put sugar in it. Other 2 do not. The tarts look great, but I have not tried them. The croissants are not as fresh as the other two.

one thing i like about this bakeshop is that it’s right outside the exit/entrance of the subway(F, G) in Park Slope. i’d always have a cup of coffee plus a danish. not bad… attentive service, too!

My wife bought a fruit-topped cheesecake for my birthday and it was WONDERFUL! We actually biked around the Slope beforehand, testing all the cheesecakes(and other yummies) we could in the area — I know, it was a tough job but somebody had to do it! Zana was the winner, and we weren’t disappointed. We’ve also had other things there over the years and am always happy with our calories.

I live around the corner from Zana and have been here about 100 times. It’s wonderful. Not fancy like other Park Slope cafes and bakeries, but reliable and delicious. They’re coffee is fine. I often get a almond croissant for $ 2.25 and they’re are delectable — rich and soft. All the pastries are fresh and tasty. For Thanksgiving, I ordered a raspberry linzer pie. Isn’t that a cookie? The pie tasted just like a linzer cookie with five times more filling. Perfect and appealing to the eye. They started out a bit rough but the staff has gotten more efficient. It’s a nice addition to the neighborhood.

Along 7th Avenue between Smiling Pizza and Uncle Louie G, you will find this sliver of a bakery shop. Blink and you might miss it… …I wish I had blinked. The place is very over priced. I got 4 pastries and it came to $ 20! Now if they were a decent size, maybe I would not mind… but they were tiny. Now I took them home with an open mind. Maybe these 4 tiny cakes would be worth it. …again, oh how I wish I had blinked. Maybe even blinked, sneezed and got something in my eye… so there was no chance I would have seen this place. #1: The lady said it was a custard pie… but if it was… then it was the most originally flavored… and awful version of a custard pie I have ever had. I took one bite, spit it out and moved on to mini cake 2. #2: Pumpkin pie was so-so. Not great, not awful… maybe after trying that disgusting custard pie, anything would taste better. #3 chocolate cake was again eh… really nothing special. #4 tiramisu, probably the mvp of the minis… but again it just was not worth $ 5. Two bites and its gone. Skip this place… just too many great bakeries and dessert options in Brooklyn and along 7th Avenue to waste your money on this place.
