UYE: Cray Cray Brisket Night in Brooklyn

I was fortunate to be on the guest list for a UYE at Hill Country Barbecue Market, given by Unilocal friend Jason S. I dig this place. It’s like having a few acres of pure bluegrass, right here in Brooklyn. We were treated to a brisket dinner that was so hearty, filling and fattening. We dined on wet and dry brisket along with deep dishes of mac and cheese, crispy cole slaw and warm cornbread muffins. An appetizer of two types of sliced sausages was so tasty that I could’ve stuffed myself on those alone with the cole slaw and the cold pitchers of sweet tea. I’m really big on drinking out of mason jars and they have them at Hill Country. There was a live country/​western band on stage that night singing some wonderfully risqué tunes. Big after work crowd. Lots of three piece suits in the building but ties were loosened and everyone was eating, drinking and rocking. Thank you again to Jason S. for an invite to an event that as my Unilocal friend Xavier S. mentioned, felt very much like Thanksgiving. Feasting with friends at Hill Country was a great experience. I’ll be back again soon.

What a great night. It was my first ever UYE event and it was held at Hills Country Chicken.
The BBQ chicken and the smoked brisket made me go to gym twice the following day, the food was just kept on coming.
The staff were super attentive especially on refilling my glass of white wine.
It was nice to meet and chat with co-​yelpers. Damn, we missed the talk convo created by the other table that night. It could have been crazier.
kudos to Jason S. for putting it all together, I can’t wait to attend his next event.

Wow what can I say? I didn’t eat anything until late the next day! This space is great and right on my doorstep. The food was plentiful and amazingly good with the Brisket being standout, but really everything was top notch and the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming and attentive.
I’m new-​ish to Unilocal but loving it and this is yet another great way of bringing our great restaurants and eateries and the local community together. Thanks to Jason S. for putting this together and nice to meet fellow Unilocalers from around the city.

Mega props for da man Jason for organizing. It’s also nice to see familiar and not-​so familiar faces as well as a cameo appearance by Peter D. Cool, cool! :D
The service was definitely over-​the-​top compared to my expectations, partly based on reviews, etc. but I should have guessed that they were aiming to please a very important part of their community, whether we be foodies or what not.
Let me put it simply… I was in meat coma from round two, but loved every ounce of it. The after dessert-​dessert sealed it for me. I was bursting with fruit flavors.
I think we were fine without the chicken but understood they were trying to provide some variety… A little suspect there but whatever, it all worked out in the end. The Mac N’ Cheese was good, i didn’t care for slaw or cornbread, but i love me some sweetea… It’s sweetened like how i remembered it in my travels to the Queen City (Charlotte) and Nashville.
Brisket was never my favorite part of cattle because when I had it in sandwiches, they typically leave an aftertaste there hard to describe. Not so with this batch. They must have marinated it well. Kudos.
Lastly, if there are any other meat challenges out there, I’ll be ready to throwdown. Meat me baby one more time!

Man o man that brisket was soft and sweet it melted away in my mouth which was good because I didn’t feel like doing jaw exercises last night.
The BBQ Chicken was a good addition as well. I really liked the sauce but
that Mac n Cheese, two words, heavenly and divine… thanks Ksa for suggesting this one and it was goooddddd. Along came the coleslaw and cornbread it’s trustworthy side kicks.
Hill Country had a very good vibe, the food, the music and the staff… the nice courteous wait staff was really good to us. I have a love/​hate thing going for them right now, I love how they kept feeding us but I hate how they kept feeding us. Oo the confusion in my brain and stomach, I’m still full after 12 hours of eating this meal! Every time I go into my bathroom my scale screams profanities at me. I’m so ashamed (hangs head) lol
Thanks again Jason for being so well organized and knowing just how to feed a decent group of people… side note, you’re now added to my love/​hate list.
Can’t forget the good company I was with… thank you all, it was great meeting you… from total strangers on a social media site to breaking cornbread and eating meat together.

FOOD COMA! Yep, that about sums the night up. :-)
First off, a huge thank you to Hill Country Brooklyn for putting this together for us. The evening was a success! The service was fantastic and friendly, the food was excellent, and with the live band jamming away, it almost felt like we were in Texas instead of NYC.
And speaking of the food… Wow! Just so much delicious goodness delivered to the tables on platters and in large bowls. it was a ton of food! I’ll admit that when I arranged this event, I was concerned there wouldn’t be enough, as is often the case at a lot of places when it comes to large groups, however, I was assured by Hill Country there would be more than enough. Indeed, it was. In fact, there were a lot of leftovers. Somehow, I managed to cram the leftovers into my pockets, under my shirt, even under my ostentatious hat. Unfortunately, a few pieces of brisket fell out of my pocket on my way home, but I’m sure the hordes of rats that were following me didn’t let any of it go to waste.
Thank you to everyone who came out to partake in this memorable gluttonous fest of meat that was truly a carnivore’s delight. I’m already looking forward to the next one!

I must admit… I never had brisket, nor did I ever care to order it… why you ask? I always thought it was this dry piece of meat that would get stuck in your throat when you’d try to swallow it.
When this UYE popped up, I said, «hey, why the heck not… try some brisket and meet some new Unilocalers…»
I’m glad I went. There’s moist brisket… it was so MOIST!!! The Mac and cheese was awesome and the cole slaw went well with everything… lets not forget to mention this crack butter… I should have stuffed some cornbread and crack butter in my bag to eat at home…
Peter D., you missed out on dessert!!! The staff kindly brought out samples of their dessert for us to try. That chocolate cake and ganache doe!!!
12 hours later and I still feel stuffed…

Seriously goooood food. Endless amounts of it. Ohhh, that brisket was heavenly. And mac n cheese! Mmmm.
Want also shoot out to our servers — since it was my first time at Hill Country, I appreciated the tour, and of course all attention they gave us. Life music was great, and their sound system is something else! Loved it.
It was lots of fun on coldest day of the week.

So fun! Jason S. brought together a great bunch of people, and Hill Country certainly treated us right. I’ve been curious to visit this place since it opened a couple months ago, but their complicated ordering and payment system have kept me putting it off. This system worked much better; paying upfront kept everything simple, and the waitstaff did a great job of keeping everyone’s additional bar bill straight. It couldn’t have been too easy, because this had a pretty good turn out. It also had an impressive amount of food, and served as a nice introduction to the menu here. Getting to see the space was a treat too – it looks impressive from the outside, but I really had no idea what a clever job they’d done with it until I was inside and upstairs. It’s something new that the neighborhood was missing. Having a live band was also a special and unusual twist. It was a warm and homey evening with old friends, new friends, and people I met only tonight – a great way to pass this cold night.

Wow Jason, thanks for pulling this together! It was a great time «meating» all you Unilocalers and helping to destroy a perfectly good head of cattle and burn down an entire coop of chickens. It was more than worth it to see Nick polish off that entire bowl of mac & cheese without coming up for air! No catfish here tonight! Only real Unilocalers sucking down ungodly amounts of food!

First off, Thanks Jason for hosting such an amazing event.
Second the food here was simply amazing, although there a set menu the food was simply amazing. Definitely ate my fill of brisket, chicken and mac and cheese. Props to the wait staff for being efficient and friendly it definitely was a memorable evening.

Cray Cray Brisket Night in BK was all that and more! I signed up for this a couple of days before finding out the weather was dropping to freezing mode again. Still made it and definitely was quite the turnout. It only took about 25 minutes from midtown NYC.
So when we got there, we had the whole dining area of the top floor which was the loft space. There was live music and southern dancing. Two long tables set aside just for us Unilocalers. Jason S. worked out a sweet deal with Hill Country to get us family style dinner served with mounds of Brisket (both types: Moist which was fatty and Dry which resembled a roast), Chicken, sides like Cole Slaw and Mac n Cheese, Corn bread, plus unlimited refills of tea or soda and DESSERT on top of that (at least 5 varieties like cupcakes, bread pudding, blackout cake, chocolate chip cookies) all for $ 32.50 including tax and gratuity. Now I can breathe. This was no joke! Plus we got HH pricing all night like $ 3 PBR.
I hope everyone made it home without entering a serious food coma. SO. MUCH. FOOD. Big turnout from the Unilocal community including BK’s finest CM Peter D. There was Jason S. (great impersonations), Nick T., Ming T., Nadia Z., Chun M., Kashif K., Lori L., Tanya R., Ron L. and Den R. all of whom I had a good time chatting with many of you.
Hope everyone got their fill of meat. If you didn’t get seconds, you can’t handle the meat!

I would’ve posted this earlier but I just woke up from my food coma at 12:30 AM. I totally blame Jason S for nudging, pushing, messaging and reminding me to come to his first Unilocal cray cray event. He’s cray cray!
The food was awesome. Our table of 8 was polite and on its best family-​style sharing behavior because Peter D was our adult chaperone… but we devoured the brisket and BBQ chicken platter so fast I got worried and started stuffing myself with moist corn bread muffins, tasty cold slaw and Mac & Cheese.
Luckily a 2^nd round platter came out with a hill of moist fatty brisket (so yum and so much better than the corned beef I cooked in my crockpot yesterday) and a hill of dry roasted type which was great too. We left mounds on the platter.
My tummy was hurting, and not from the delicious happy hour-​priced margaritas either. I was stuffed and actually skipped the dessert tray!
As I said in our Talk: Jason, I promote thee to Platinum Elite for hosting this. Is there such a thing LOL? And thanks to the new Hill Country Barbecue Market for the awesome deal! I am NOT stepping on the scale in the morning.
