Sofitel New York

Gorgeous hotel! The rooms are impeccable and the beds are like a cloud. I wouldn’t change a thing about this place. The location is great and there are some nearby hidden gems for restaurants.

I booked 2 rooms for 8 nights at Sofitel during this recent holiday break with my family. I was expecting it to be absolutely great as i frequent Sofitel chains around the world. My Accor Platinum status can attest to this. I was however mortified by my experience with Sofitel NY. Let’s forget the rooms being outdated, the gym being totally run down (i had to line up to use an old treadmill), some of the staff were particularly rude (the asian lady at the restaurant where I ate breakfast everyday) and the front desk clerks were incompetent.
What really ticked me off is that 15 days after I have checked out, Sofitel NY was still charging my credit card $ 7,000 for god knows what. This is already after I have paid in full both rooms and all corresponding incidentals. I have spoken to their manager personally and on the phone after my trip about this issue and has promised me that they will personally attend to this matter directly with my bank.
As a traveller, it is important that my cards are active especially in case of emergencies. Thanks to Sofitel, my bank has blocked my card. It is only now, 25 days after I have checked out, that my card has been active. I couldn’t even move to my next hotel because my card was being rejected. Basically, I WAS BEING CHARGED FOR SOMETHING I DID NOT CONSUME. This is theft. While i understand that it is a hotel’s policy to authorise a transaction the moment you check in, It is unacceptable for them not to do their part in ensuring that their clients are taken care after they have checked out.
Between the back and forth international phone calls from NY to Manila and the hassle I had to go through, in what was supposed to be an enjoyable holiday, I can safely say that SOFITEL IS THE WORST HOTEL I’VE STAYED AT. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. For the price they are charging you are better off in a lot more better hotels. There is really nothing great about this hotel — amenities or service wise.

Never want to stay anywhere else. It always delivers. Love the beds, bar, and location.

Trying to find a consistently good hotel in Manhattan that doesn’t break the bank is hard. What $ 250 a night buys you often disappoints and bargains in the $ 125 – 150 range are down right horrible so I splurged a lot and tried the $ 350 range for a night in mid-​town Manhattan.
Sofitels are always top rate in terms of service, location, and rooms. This one did not disappoint. I was upgraded to a king from a queen which was great. View was solid if a little dull. Really quiet room, a killer bed that you nuzzle into and it just swallows you up. Feather down duvet! I was in heaven. Great location blocks from Times Square and subway, bus, cabs galore. Not on a super busy side street. Definitely stay here again. Great place. Would give it 4.5 stars if it wasn’t so darn expensive.

Beds were amazing, so comfy. Very clean, what you would expect from a hotel in the class of the Peninsula, better than The Trump in my opinion.
I hope to come back.

Sofitel is our go-​to whenever we stay in Manhattan. The rooms are always perfectly appointed. The staff are attentive and without exception go above and beyond. Lunch was the perfect size (I had the quiche, it was delicious) and satisfied us until dinner at 8pm. All in all we had a wonderful weekend and a lot of that wonderfulness has yo do with The Sofitel NYC

I have stayed here 20 nights. The hotel has a great location and the rooms are well appointed. The Gaby restaurant and staff are terrific.
However, the reservation system is awful and the staff can’t seem to get it right at the front desk. I have told them on six different times my preferences for rooms etc.. They did not have my Accor Club number at the Chicago Sofitel. Also the carpets need to replaced. It could be five stars.

Great location !! Solid hotel. You can tell this was a older hotel, but renovated. The customer service is superior. The rooms are nicely appointed. I probably would of given them 5 stars if they had a coffee maker in the room. Most luxury hotels have coffee makers/​or a Keurig machine in their rooms. Every morning I had to wake up, get dressed and wait in line across the street at Gregory Coffee just to get a cup of black coffee. I know for some people that’s not a big deal… But for me it was an annoyance. I was able to stay in 2 of their room on this visit. Their luxury King room, and the skyscraper suite. Both were nice. Decent bedding, relatively quiet for NYC. Nicely sized as well for NYC standards. The skyscraper Suite was located on the 25^th floor with views of the MetLife Building, and the Chrysler Building. Separate living room, with a small hallway separating the bedroom. Nice large bathroom, with separate shower, and tub. Hermes toiletries. Clean, and semi modern décor. The Luxury King room was the same but only smaller. The gym was standard, with cardio and weights. Nice lobby with places to sit and have a drink or read a newspaper. I will stay here again

What an amazing stay, this place was perfect. People throw the term“white glove” service doesn’t even come close to the level of detailed service we received during our stay.
When you walk though the doors from the streets of New York you know there is something special about this place.

Overall, my experience here was very positive. This is a fantastic hotel. The location can’t be beat: it’s in Midtown and is super close to everything, but it’s on a relatively quiet street. Rooms are huge and super luxurious. The beds and pillows are ridiculously comfortable. The blackout curtains are freaking FANTASTIC. There’s a shower and separate tub in the bathroom, and it’s stocked with Lanvin toiletries, which is a nice touch. It’s also very quiet. I was up on the 17^th floor and didn’t hear a peep for the first couple of nights. After that I could hear people in the neighboring rooms a bit, so the walls are thinner than I’d have liked, but it really wasn’t bad overall.
So why only three stars? I had two poor experiences with the housekeeping service. One evening I was in my room getting ready to go out, and a housekeeper opened the door, without even knocking. It alarmed me and also made me wonder what she was doing there, as my room had already been cleaned earlier in the day. Second, I left a bag of souvenirs in my room after I checked out. Admittedly, that was my own fault. But I called the hotel several times that same day and the housekeepers never turned the bag over to security, which is the hotel policy. So that was a major bummer. Not sure if I’d stay here again because of those two instances, which is a shame because otherwise, it was one of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had.

So we had a rough long trip from California to New York via air… We got in super late and the the Sofitel was full… :-(
They took care of us and set us up in a great room at The London down the street.
When returning back to the Sofitel it was fantastic — The Sofitel has certainly been 5 stars (6 if possible)…
— they upgraded us to an incredible room
— they sent us a fruit & cheese basket
— everyone has been more than fantastic (even the manager late last night when I was not in a good mood after finding out we did not have a room ready).
— Sonya, Maday, Elvis and the entire staff are just incredible at making your experience worth every penny!
Unfortunately things happen out of our control sometimes, but WOW they absolutely treat you awesome.
When we come to NY — this will be the only place we stay!

The pice is not affordable to most, buts it’s not insane for what you get in NY.
Our room was perfection! One and a half bath one bedroom suite with a bathroom that rivals almost any hotel bath I have ever been in. The Hermes toiletries where just unexpected and another sign of this hotels quality.
Then to top it off the private balcony was literally the same size as the room. It was huge a s very well furnished. We spent more time on it then in the room.
The room service was quick and affordably in my opinion with plenty of options. The cheese plate and champaign came to only 69 dollars.
My only complaint is the concierge service was week and often hard to reach. They also couldn’t get is a cab with a 20 min heads up. That’s odd to me.
All in all a great place and I recommend room 2422

Everything about this hotel is welcoming, the Staff are second to none and the rooms are extremely large with excellent views. The hotel is centrally located within minutes of Fifth Av, Time Sq, Broadway and Madison Sq Garden. Will be back soon

So disappointing! The pictures for this hotel are so deceiving! It was probably photographed many years ago. Their white couches on the photographs are more like beige from how old they are. I’ve stayed at the Sofitel in LA and this is nothing like that one. If you are looking for a young and hip hotel do not stay here!

The best hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Hands down.
Okay so I had no idea this was a French hotel when I booked it. Neither good or bad to me and everyone seemed to speak French (and English too).
The room was quiet, did not hear the traffic nor the other people in the hotel which is a huge plus in my book. I am a light sleeper! Also the curtains were real blackout curtains and not a hint of light could escape them. Loved it.
The room was also very roomy and spacious. The desk was just right. The beds were super comfortable. I requested a refrigerator and that came up promptly. The bathroom was super nice too. I loved, loved, loved the shampoo and body wash. The conditioner actually felt like it made my hair dry.
The room thermostat worked really well. I mean, it did what it said it was doing which is unusual. I like to sleep in 66 degree F and when I’m awake I like 78 degree F. It was on point.
The customer service was always pleasant and very helpful. Concierge was great. Location was close to a lot of stuff but honestly it was so cold we didn’t make good use of the location because we couldn’t stand to be outside for more than 2 minutes.
The lobby was beautiful and the downstairs bathroom was amazing. It provided a vanity area and this super wonderful lotion I couldn’t get enough of.
Will definitely be going back every chance I have.

Sofitel, one of my favorite hotel brands, is awesome. First time in NYC Sofitel, and it didn’t disappoint. Hard to find faults without looking too hard. From excellent front desk reception staff and fast check in process to upgrade to luxury king room on high floor and everything afterwards was a breeze. Common areas and rooms are as good as advertised. Liked décor in the room and large tastefully appointed bathroom. The room is not huge, but adequate size. Excellent location on 44^th between 5^th and 6^th, still relatively quiet. The value was unexpectedly good. For this money you normally end up in lower end chain hotel in Manhattan, not favulous Sofitel

I first heard about the Sofitel a few years ago when then-​chief of the IMF Dominique Strauss Kahn allegedly raped a maid here a few days before I stayed next door at the Algonquin Hotel. What a crazy ass story I thought. And so when it came time to book a hotel in NYC again, I thought, «Why not the Sofitel?» Because you know they make sure their shit is super safe now.
My boyfriend found super good rates for sub-​$ 300/​night for a weekend in October. For such a great location and quality services, I was very satisfied with our stay. We were on the 7^th floor and couldn’t hear any street traffic, so don’t be worried about staying in the cheaper lower floors for that reason. Beds and pillows were super duper comfy. I slept so well I didn’t wanna wake up to go eat and that does not happen ever. The rooms were updated and clean and modern. They have Lanvin bath products! Free wifi for up to 3 devices, too. The Sofitel isn’t that expensive and looks more luxurious than its price point. I’m definitely going to stay here again.
Lots of guests were legit Frenchmen so this place had a very European feel to it, which was cool and unique. Service was top notch! Good job Sofitel!

I can’t think of a single flaw. Our experience here was great — perfect location, easy check-​in, super-​friendly staff, clean room that was spacious by NY standards and priced fairly relative to the competition.
We were a quick walk to Times Square, Rockefeller Plaza, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Central Park and obviously hundreds of restaurants and bars. Über and taxi’d to lower Manhattan and village areas which was inexpensive.
I would (will) definitely stay here again!

Chouette, my first hotel review! While I certainly have heard of Sofitel before, I never stayed at one until this past weekend trip to NYC. My boyfriend booked the hotel for only $ 200/​night which is not bad at all for NYC especially in the Times Square/​Midtown area.
We decided to drop off our bags/​see if we could check in early around 8 in the morning. To my amazement, they did have a room available and let us check in. When we went up to the room however, there was clear evidence the previous occupant had smoked. We called down to the front desk, primarily because we didn’t want to be charged for a room that was smoked in and because they have a strict no-​smoking policy. The front desk receptionist was very apologetic and said they would get housekeeping on it immediately. We went back down to the front desk, where she told us that she would be upgrading us to a king bed room for the inconvenience. Honestly, it wasn’t inconvenient at all; we just wanted to bring it up to their attention and not get extraneously charged. It was very, very nice of them to upgrade us at all.
Service is top notch. Everyone speaks both English and French and are extremely helpful and polite. This kind of service is on a whole other level when it comes to hotel service.
Later in the day, we came back after they had called and said our room was ready. The room was very spacious and clean. There were complimentary waters, free wifi, robes, slippers, glasses/​tumblers, a Bose stereo/​alarm clock, and other amenities. The bathroom was enormous with a full tub and separate shower with one of those waterfall showerheads. There were even fresh flowers and a candle and matches. They have oversized body towels, which I appreciate since I dislike the small body towels some hotels offer.
It rained the weekend we stayed, so we received complimentary umbrellas from concierge. The lobby is beautiful, with plenty of fresh cut flowers and cushy sofas/​chairs. There’s a restaurant downstairs called Gaby. I had a pretty good French onion soup and a pot of Darjeeling tea there.
Location is fantastic. Right in the heart of Midtown close to Times Square, Fifth Avenue, Grand Central Station.
