Wursula is the go to person for all things waxing! I’ve been going to her for the past 5 years and would highly recommend her. She’s the best!

Pretty shady place. Friendly faces, but shady. Got charged $ 20 instead of $ 10 for eyebrow wax. $ 10 for her is what was listed on their website, unless I was a him and I did not know. Did not get what I wanted — got what she suggested instead. Place is downstairs in a basement of a hair salon. Shady, just shady. Will NOT be going back. I’m sad because I went based on the fabulous reviews.

Wursula knows exactly what she’s doing. She’s quick, professional, incredibly nice and equally as important, she’s great at what she does. She really pays attention to detail. I used to travel to Astoria to see her but now that she’s in Manhattan I couldn’t be more thrilled. As far as I’m concerned, there’s no reason to go anywhere else. I’ve been going to Ursula for two years in Astoria. She just took over Rio Waxing Studio in Murray Hill, get it girl! She’s a cute little Brazilian woman from Rio– she invented this shit! Professional, nice, warm and friendly. I’ll continue going to her here now.

I’m not sure where to start with this review. I’ve been going here every 4 – 5 weeks for over 3 years (when it was still Sonyas and at a different location). Initially I was very happy with the service, but lately have been let down. Now, call me prude, but I don’t like a ton of people looking at my lady bits. This place has had a consistent turn over of staff, and not once do I have receive a phone call, text or email alerting me that someone different will be doing my waxing. It’s even worse when you ask someone how come your normal person isn’t there, and you get absolutely no answer. My visit today was the worst one I’ve had. They tried to use different wax with paper (which is a no no), and literally hurt me with the amount of tweezing that was done (which has NEVER happened before with Nancy or Natalie). I understand everyone has different techniques, but I finally had to ask her to stop. To make matters worst, I was almost overcharged (first charge was $ 65 and then another $ 55 was added instead of the normal $ 55), and I had to show her how to use the iPad to pay for my service. For a place that used to be so consistent, it’s now like a roller coaster of service that I’m not a fan of. Needless to say, I’m going to be looking for a new place for my waxing needs with a little more consistency.

Honestly, no matter what, a Brazilian wax isn’t the most comfortable experience but Wursula has been my go to person for a while now and Im so happy she’s at this location. She’s very good at making you feel comfortable, she’s quick, super clean and makes sure to get everything and I mean, everything. After she’s done waxing, she’ll make sure to tweeze out any small strays for a very smooth finish (and no ingrowns!). She pays attention to detail and I recommend her to everyone I know!

Gotta say I was skeptical when I got a brazilian here as some of the reviews were so effusively in support of the place. Call me crazy but I have never gushed about a bikini wax ever.
I will say Nancy was great though. Not painless by any means (still pretty sure whoever writes that in a Unilocal review needs a psychiatrist or is smoking something) but she was so friendly and chatty the entire time that I was definitely well distracted.
Not sure if I will return as the shop is not that easy for me to get to but I would definitely recommend her to others looking for a new spot. If she came a bit more west I would be there regularly.

Very fast, and relatively painless. The studio is very simple and clean and the ladies are friendly and professional. They use the best quality wax (no strips) which is faster and better for your skin. Would definitely recommend and I will be coming back!

This was the first time EVER that I’ve had my back waxed so I was a little anxious when it started. However, I was able to chat and actually laugh through the process with Nancy. It was a great experience. Professional, human, and humorous are words is use to describe it. I was in good hands throughout and highly recommend the experience.

Painless Brazilian wax! I’m not kidding. The staff is amazing and helpful. The waxing is quick, easy and pain-​free. I’ve been getting Brazilians for years now and it’s usually something I dread, but no longer. By far the best wax I’ve ever received. I can’t recommend this place enough!

For my first time they gave me a 20% discount. They were quick and efficient. The lady who worked on me was very friendly. Overall little to no pain. I’m a man with a lot of body hair. If you’re in a similar position this is the place to go.

Nancy gave me a COMPLETELY PAIN FREE wax. And i don’t mean in painless (as in less pain in comparison to other places /​techniques) i mean free of pain! Nancy was amazingly professional and friendly. They’re a little pricey, but worth it. Go there. Trust me. If you’re going elsewhere, you’re not doing yourself any justice!

This is the best waxing studio I’ve found in NYC. It is tiny, but impeccably clean and well-​run, and the wax itself is very high quality. Nancy has a remarkable attention to detail; she does not miss one hair, but still manages to make the waxing quick and relatively painless. She is sweet, professional and very attune to her customer’s comfort. I used to go to a cheaper chain waxing studio that left me with in-​grown hairs and irritated skin; I’ve never once had that reaction with Rio, and my wax lasts for much longer as well! This is the only waxing studio I’ll visit. I only wish it were bigger so that they could have more business and offer more treatments — they so deserve it, and I’d get every beauty service done there. 5 stars!

They have just change the owner and the place got an amazing face lift.
So much brighter, clean and zen atmosphere. Its clear that the new owner want to do a better business.
What I love about this place is the kind of wax they use, is a kind of honey wax that not only don’t hurt at all but also leave your skin smoothly.

Rio Waxing Studio was recommended to me by a friend a few years ago (when it was called Sonya’s) and since then, I haven’t gone anywhere else.
I don’t necessarily look forward to a Brazilian bikini wax every 4 – 6 weeks but I know I’m in good hands with Nancy and she makes each experience enjoyable. She is patient and always knows how to distract me from the mere anticipation (though it never ends up being painful).
I have referred Rio to many friends, and each one of them has become a regular. They work in a clean studio and treat all of their customers extremely well.
I highly recommend seeing Nancy at Rio for all treatments for men and women.

Rio was a great waxing studio. I had previously been going elsewhere, a chain salon that wanted you in and out quick, and found that every time I went I was in a lot of pain. When I got a wax at Rio it was virtually painless and the woman who did my eyebrows was extremely precise and wanted my eyebrows to look perfect. I really appreciated that. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would 110% go back there!
