The McBurney YMCA, a branch of the YMCA of Greater New York, has served the communities of Chelsea, the Village and Union Square for more than 100 years.
Our YMCA provides a range of activities for all ages, with a focus on youth. Our your programs include early childhood development and activities classes, day camp, school age child care, swimming instruction, youth sports, dance, teen leadership development and more.

John R.
Manager
Executive Director — McBurney YMCA
John Rappaport oversees operations of the McBurney YMCA.
Since 1990, John has served in increasingly responsible positions for the YMCA of Greater New York, including Aquatic and Program Director of the Prospect Park YMCA, Senior Program Director of the Greenpoint YMCA, and Associate Executive Director of the Bedford-Stuyvesant YMCA before taking the Executive Director position in February 2004. John began his YMCA career in 1989 as the Aquatic Coordinator for the New Rochelle (NY) YMCA.
He is a 1984 graduate of Lafayette College, with a degree in International Affairs, and has been a Brooklyn resident for 19 years. He is the recipient of the Bedford-Stuyvesant Lions Club Community Service Award (2006) and the Central Brooklyn Community Services Corporation’s Community Builder Award (2007).
