This review is more about the promotions than the actual services at L’energie Salon. Promotions from Image Promotions, specifically Dan Hraska, are not to be trusted. I believe him to have very questionable business practices. Be wary!

I have been trying to get in touch with this salon for an entire week — countless phone calls, emails and even tried going to the salon in person! No answer and no way to access the place in question. Very disappointed that I bought a package I can’t even use due to their inaccessibility.

Horrible! Scam, if you have a promotion voucher. All they care is your money and not your look!
Very unprofessional.

Terrible hair cut. Not very advanced, kind of lopsided as I look in the mirror now. Kind of like a Supercuts experience. My hairdresser was pretty decent in her blowout skills though. The manicurist was average but the selection of nail polish was below par. The facial was a joke of one. She literally took off my makeup rubbed lotion on my face for a split second and said «done.» Um no. I was also was not granted the brow wax stated in the package. When I inquired, they refused. I bought 2 spa packages off Harold square for $ 30 each (one for a friend) from a promoter. Not very impressed but for the price I paid, I don’t exactly feel ripped off but I’m definitely never coming back here again. I don’t completely trust any of them there. They’re not very welcomingTheir services are not «luxurious» at all. Nothing special. Definitely not up to the «higher status» of 5^th Ave.

I came here on a promotion because I had already paid for it. In retrospect, it would have been better to eat the sunk cost of the promotion. My hairdressor was Elliot. (If you come here for a promotion and they introduce you to Elliot, run away or ask for someone else!!) I was very unhappy with most of the appointment.
The advice on how to keep my hair healthy was educational, but nothing I couldn’t look up online. Elliot didn’t seem to keen on answering my questions either. So I didn’t push it because I didn’t want to tire out the person who was going to work out my hair.
The promotion is a bit of a scam if your hairdresser doesn’t go the full mile. I elected to do the first part that afternoon, which was suppose to include a image and color consultation, shampoo, deep conditioning, haircut, blow dry, and style.
I thought that the color consultation was for my own edification (I admit, it was naïve of me to think so) but actually it’s a way for them to get you to pay more. Elliot convinced me to dye my hair. But after the dye job, my hair looked the same color! Maybe in the sun you could tell something was different, but barely. Granted, the effect wasn’t suppose to be drastic, but I didn’t pay $ 90 extra dollars too look the same. My friends also cannot tell the difference.
So after the dye job, I was like, at least I get a nice haircut while I’m here! But no, by that point, Elliot was too tired to do the hair cut properly. He asked me in a pointed manner whether or not I wanted a lot of hair off. While I wanted a new look, I could tell that Elliot was really low in energy at that point, so I thought it better to keep it safe and say I just wanted a trim (I didn’t want to lose a lot of hair and regret it). But even the trim was bad… He spent approximately 3 minutes and I still have split ends!
And now some general notes on (un)professionalism…
Elliot began the appointment by telling me how tired he was because he had been up since 5am. This should have been a red flag that the job would turn out less than ideal. Elliot’s service throughout the appointment was lacking also. He was constantly checking his phone or socializing with the other hairdressers in the salon. I wonder how much better my hair would have turned out had he been focused. He was also slightly rude and made fun of my white hairs. Multiple times. As if he forgot that he poked fun at me the first time because he could care less about the appointment.
In conclusion, I was deeply disappointed from my experience here. For the amount I would have to tip the hairdresser, I could get a haircut from regular salon and come away satisfied…

DO NOT go to this salon… even if you already purchased the voucher — it is not worth it, TRUST ME. First of all, when I called to make the appointment, the receptionists were so rude. When I finally got there on a 85 degree weather day, I was extremely disappointed to find out that this salon does not have air conditioning. No air conditioning or running fans while you’re blow drying my hair? No thank you.
Not only was the staff unwelcoming and rude, but also treated me like I was a peasant for purchasing the voucher. In fact, my stylist showed me her pamphlet which listed her «usual hair cut price» so that I would know just how much she charges. She then tried to up sell her services — one of which was a $ 250 deep conditioning treatment. NO!
I politely asked her to only provide the services I had previously paid for. I was very excited to get a healthy cut, deep conditioning treatment and blowout for my night out, but what I received couldn’t have been further from that. My deep conditioning treatment consisted of her putting regular conditioner on my hair for 5 minutes. Her scalp massage consisted of her simply washing the shampoo out of my hair. I asked for 3 inches off, I’m not exaggerating when I say she cut a centimeter off, kept my hair behind my back so I couldn’t see then took my cape off before asking if I wanted more off. At that point, I didn’t want her to touch my hair anymore… I was furious. She also told me she would put a wave in my hair since I mentioned to her that I do not like it stick straight. My hair couldn’t have been straighter when I left the salon.
I basically paid $ 90 to get my hair washed. I will not be going back for the other fake services. Shame on this salon and shame on the individuals out promoting it. You won’t be in business long.

DO NOT GO TO THAT SALON. READ THIS BEFORE YOU BURN YOUR VOUCHER.
This is the second promotion I have done with this salon, of course talked into it, and I wanted a manicure anyway so he gave me 3 vouchers and I sold 2 so I pretty much got it for free.
The first time I went there was 2 years ago when they were still Renait, and I had long extensions that I payed a fortune for, and since they were shedding and looked shit they took them out for me.
I ended up paying around 100 dollars and they ruined my hair. They said they knew how to take them out, but they didn’t. They basically cut them off and ripped out more than half of my hair. I was crying, but they were just blaming my frail hair and the bad job the hair salon where I got them apparently did. I wanted to die, I had like no hair.
They also talked me into getting an 80 dollar facial because my skin was «horrible» and «needed to be fixed asap». My face was red for like 3 days and the treatment was incredibly painful. The woman also tried to sell me a bunch of face creams.
The second time I bought the promotion I didn’t know it was the same salon. The guy was super annoying making shit up about being able to introduce me to people and shit and he actually walked to the bank with me because I had no cash. It was super sketchy, but I guess I need to learn to say no.
I got 3 vouchers and gave one to my roomie. The hair appointment was a disaster, as expected.
The guy doing my hair was this super sketchy portoriquean dude who said he knew how to read people and he said that he could tell I was unhappy with my hair so he gave me side bangs without telling me. I was like: «I keep my hair parted in the middle» and he goes «Not anymore you don’t» I was speechless.
He also kept insulting my hair telling me that it was ruined and that I had to get a glaze over it because it looked like shit. I felt really bad about myself afterwards and left the salon with my stupid bangs.
My roommate got talked into getting color and she payed 80 dollars and saw no difference at all. I guess we are pretty dumb haha
Yesterday we went and got the 2^nd part of the promotion and I got my eyebrows done and she burned or scratched my eyelid. I now have to red scratched on my right lid and it looks like she tore off my skin. She was like telling me my skin was just sensitive and that when she applies aloe vera the same thing happens and that that had never happened before. It hurts and I look like I went to war, when all I wanted was just a couple of hairs plucked.
The lady also made me feel bad about my skin AND my roommates (who has perfect skin) saying we had blackheads all over our faces and in our ears, which we now are super self-​conscious of. She was trying to sell me a deep cleansing. She was just super rude and I love my skin, I have no problems with it at all. Well now I do. THANKS.
The manicure is basically nothing I couldn’t do at home. Extremely basic, and very little care is taken while they talk about their personal life in spanish.
The massage was bad, completed by an unprofessional (the lady who did my nails) & now my back hurts too.
That place basically ruined me LOL & I don’t ever write reviews like this But I gave them 2 chances and both were catastrophic and made me feel shit for weeks.
ALSO the stupid photos of the owner and celebrities are super awkward and creepy and they all look like what the fuck is that guy doing photobombing me.
They are all taken at some weird event and he obviously does not do their hair & even if he did I couldn’t give less fucks.
Its stupid.
Please shut the place down.

I got a great manicure done here by a woman with long black hair whose name I have forgotten. She was very thorough and professional. I appreciated that she took the time to clean under my nails after filing and buffing them, which I feel like a lot of people neglect! Also, there was no rush to leave the nail dryer, so I wasn’t worried about leaving with tacky nails.
My friend got a haircut/​blowout and a glaze that they added color to which looks fabulous.
I can’t speak to the promotion others are talking about, as we just walked in on a whim to treat ourselves!

oh lord. my friend fell victim to one of those salon promoters on the street. she so kindly purchased this package for her, myself and one of our other friends. not wanting anything, but a blowout, i stayed level headed as the stylist recommend some glaze for my highlighted and «damaged» hair. i know she has a job to do so i let her do her thing, show me pictures of her work, but i wasn’t interested. i’m confident she is a competent stylist, but i wasn’t going to bite. the salon has pictures of the owner with celebrities all over the place which i found bizarre as he wasn’t doing their hair, just standing next to these people at an event. the biggest ploy was their $ 10 registration fee. who does that? you know there are lots of salons that don’t need this baloney. go find them.

I was talked into the promotion deal off the street and regretted it.
Good points about the salon: Everyone was very friendly.
Bad points: They constantly tried to up-​sell me even though I already felt the price was a bit too high for the services provided. The extra hair treatment wasn’t worth it (didn’t last as promised, not worth the money), and the «spa» services were less than mediocre although the ladies were very nice.
Next time I need a cut I’ll go back to my trusted salon, and spend the same amount of money.

I got one of those promotions as well & specifically asked for Asta, at the recommendation of the girl selling me the promotion in June. I had 6 months to use it & needed a trim badly so decided to use it a few days ago.
I did not get Asta, who was highly recommended & was very wary about the whole thing after reading the negative reviews but figured if someone screwed up MY hair, they should not have a license anymore. I got Giovanny, who ended up giving me a very good cut. I left with a very nice hairstyle & the curls stayed in until I washed my hair 2 days later. I knew Giovanny was the real deal since he said there was no reason to color my hair or cut it too much; in fact, I was trying to get it shorter than he said I needed it to be. This hair model got the proper respect for her hair so I’d definitely consider returning when I had the $ for it. I also would do the treatment he mentioned if I had the funds for it.

My roommate & I were having a stressful afternoon. The street sales guy caught us at a vulnerable moment. The good news is that he sold us 3 vouchers for $ 46.
After reading all of the reviews we began to worry about what hellish ordeal awaited us. 12pm Saturday was an anxious wait. I won’t drag you through a play-​by-​play but below is my quick list of the good & bad:
Appointment 1 — Stylist: Wendy
BAD
— There were some up sell attempts that I politely & firmly declined. Wendy didn’t push the issue, she was just doing her job.
— The hair dryer was a bit too hot and I my scalp was not thrilled
— No drinks were offered & the services you receive are not really anything more than a normal hair cut. The shampoo/​massage/​conditioner were all what you’d expect from any decent haircut
GOOD
— Wendy killed it with the hair cut! I am very attached to my length and she gave me beautiful layers w/​o me feeling like I had all my hair chopped off.
–Everyone in the salon was perfectly pleasant and competent
–At $ 15.33 per voucher + the $ 20 tip I left Wendy allowed me to save tremendously on my haircut even if I don’t go back for appt 2! If I go back that means the cut Im loving cost me even less! Oh and so many salons these day charge for a blow dry so if you add that into it, I felt like I got a steal even though other parts of the service were iffy!

I love this salon. I came the first time using the promotion and I’ve been coming ever since. They were very helpful and explained very well the conditions of the promotion.
I have my highlights done by Libia. She does then very professionally and takes really good care of my hair.

I came here because I was approaches with one of the discount vouchers like a lot of the other reviewers. While I didn’t have a bad experience, the salon wasn’t an establishment is write home about either.
I worked with Wendy, who was very personable and did a great job cutting my hair. She was very attuned to my hair’s natural tendencies and worked to give me youthful, voluminous and above all healthy looking hair. I love the way it looks.
The receptionists were not helpful, however, and I saw several stylists just standing around chatting. Also, Wendy lost one of my earrings and I not only had to point out it was missing (you think you would notice since you’re the one moving my hair around), but I had to prompt her to look for it beyond just glancing at the floor. She didn’t find it, and now I’ve lost one of my favorite earrings. Very disappointing.

THIS IS A SCAM! Do not buy their vouchers off the street! This salon used to be called Renait and they changed their names due to months of horrible reviews! They will ruin your hair and charge you hundreds of dollars for services they don’t fully explain.
DO NOT USE THIS SALON!

This is an updated review from the old salon. Renait. This salon/​owner/​manager should literally never be allowed to give service to anyone ever again. People like this I don’t even know how they are still operating. In fact I’m going to report them to the Better Business Bureau because it’s not right that they’re still open.
Here’s my old review for reference:
IF I COULD PUT A NEGATIVE STAR I WOULD. Do not not not go here! I, of course, bought the coupon and definitely regret it. The second I walked in the «stylist» criticized my hair saying that she could see my roots from the empire state building… I guess the people in this «classy» salon don’t pick up magazines because literally every celebrity had ombré gradient hair where the top is darker than the bottom. Then she tried to sell me some $ 100 conditioner and all I asked for was a trim.
I never complain about anything ever, but this time I asked the receptionist if I could have a different hair stylist because the other lady truly hurt my feelings and wasn’t professional. I then sat down with another lady to get my hair done and then she started talking crap about me (in spanish because she didn’t know I spoke Spanish) acting like she was in second grade, to the other hair stylist because they were best friends. Keep in mind that I was the one insulted so they have no reason to speak about me in a rude way. In the end I got a good blow dry but my hair cut is horrible and uneven and she did it in 5 minutes.
In the end I spoke to some lady who said she was the manager and discussed to her my issue, she then explained it in spanish to the owner and he asked me what MY problem was that if I have a thing against Spanish people. Keep in mind that I’m Cuban and speak Spanish myself! In the end after asking for a refund and them refusing… He called me dramatic, walked away, and bumped my shoulder.
Personally I think this salon is so UNPROFESSIONAL and nothing like they say they are. I agree with everyone elses review. Do not go here and make the mistake I made thinking I would be different! I left the salon crying… Ridiculous!

If I could put zero stars I would. What a TERRIBLE decision. I was an idiot to buy a voucher on the street (the only «clients» in there were tourists with the vouchers). I had a 4o’clock appt and ended up being there for over 2 hours just to get the spa package done.
The facial was a joke– lathered lotion on my face and acted like that was a «mini European facial». The only good thing was my manicure.
The spanish mamis at the front desk were HIGHLY unprofessional, and did not care if you were waiting there for 40min or not, there was this tranny or bad plastic surgery gone wrong looking lady who was rude and just plain disgusting, and one of the hairdressers was easily coked up as he was skinny as a rail and eyes were completely messed up and hyper as hell.
What a disgusting, dirty salon and the trashiest of staff. NEVER AGAIN. DO NOT FALL FOR THE VOUCHER ITS NOT WORTH IT!

Renait part 2? You can change your name, but the scam is the same. I’d save your money if I were you and spend it on services you’ll actually be able to partake in.

I’ve been having my hair done by Asta for 7 years already and I followed her to this place. I started with a promotion and I’m very pleased to have met her. She is a professional hair stylist that always do the her best. I think that you should ask for her and give this place a try. In addition, the place is big and private in a 6^th floor on 5^th avenue. People on the street won’t look at you when your getting highlights (and you basically look like just came out from a mental hospital) so I find it very comfortable and friendly. They offer you wine or tea all the time. So the 2 – 3 hours I spent on my hair ritual are great and definitely worth the money. It’s really a personalized session.
