Drybar – Bryant Park

Went to Crystal for a wedding. She was excellent. Showed her a photo of what I wanted and she nailed it. Would definitely recommend and go back.

I came to Drybar for the Cosmo the day of my graduation from grad school. Because of prior experiences being taken an hour or more late for appointments at the Murray Hill location, I made the very first appointment of the day just to make sure I wouldn’t be late and stressed. I booked online, but when I checked in, the receptionist couldn’t find my appointment in their system! Luckily, I had the confirmation email on my phone and she checked me in. My appointment was at 7:00 and I met my stylist a few minutes after 7. I thought things were off to a good start, but she did not perform the scalp massage that I requested when I booked. She kept leaving me to do other things (including checking on getting me coffee), which is totally understandable, but this led to her forgetting and me being unsure if the massage was something we’d get to later. By the time I realized it wasn’t going to happen, my hair was being dried and I decided to not let this have any impact on my day. The style came out great, although she didn’t use as much hair spray as stylists typically do on my hair, so it was flat by the end of the ceremony. I really do like my hair whenever I come to Drybar, but the customer service/​logistics end of it is just SO lacking. The products used are great, the stylists do a good job. Everyone was nice and very polite, but sometimes that’s just not enough and you want people to get the job done.

I came here on 5/​26, I was visiting this location, I usually go to the drybar in Pasadena, CA. I believe my stylist name was Celi. She did a Cosmo-​tai for me, it was awesome! She did a really thorough job of washing my hair. She also did a thorough job of drying and styling and the blowout lasted several days. Very very happy with her work!

This place was amazing! My stylist did a great job and I would return to this location if I were in the area! I was in and out in no time at all!

The bottom line is I will no longer be a dry bar customer. The prices have gone up and the service has dwindled significantly. The stylists simply do not listen to their clients, they’re too fixated on rushing you out of their chair in 30 minutes (which is not sufficient at all for someone like myself with very long hair) and try to pin you to a style in the book when your client may want something slightly different (imagine you may not want one of five cookie cutter styles!). The last three appointments I’ve had, I had to have another stylist finish off my blow dry because my hair looked unfinished each time and unpolished. It is not worth my time or money, particularly last week when I was disappointed once again. If your stylists cannot effectively offer a straight sleek blowout, you simply should not be in the business of blowouts…
Lastly, I was shocked the receptionist didn’t offer to comp my service given my dissatisfaction when I left. Instead I walked out unhappy after two stylists’ touch ups and a botched job.

For Mother’s Day I wanted to treat my mom to a blow out. She was visiting from Texas to go to a family event so I thought it would be special if we were to go and get our hair done — especially since she so rarely gets to see her family so I wanted her to feel and look great.
This morning, we arrived right on time for our 9am appointment, but there was not a single stylist in the salon when we arrived. There were already at least seven other women lined up waiting for their appointments. Around 9:10 the stylists finally started showing up, but there were far fewer stylists than guests. At 9:15 I checked in again with the receptionist to let her know that we had an event directly after the appointment so had a train to catch. She had no updates other than that half the staff had called out. She was trying to remain calm but was clearly under trained and in over her head.
At 9:30 we realized that we were not going to be seen, so asked if we could at least wet our hair and dry it ourselves, so we could at least be half presentable for the family event. She said she would help us and then left us sitting in the sink chairs and never returned. Finally, we had to leave.
This was supposed to be a special treat for my mom and it completely backfired. We both are mortified that we have to go to this big family event with air-​dryed, slept on hair in pony tails. It’s completely inappropriate.
At so many times in this process this could have been prevented. We should have been called immediately — before we made the trip to the salon — to be notified that they were running late. We could have done our hair at home. And if that wasn’t possible they should have given us a clear estimated time when we arrived, so that we could have left earlier or found another solution.
And to add insult to injury, later in the day I received an automated email which said «thank you so much for cancelling (rather than standing us up.)» Drybar really needs to check their email tone — particularly since standing up their clients seems to be their practice.
This was a completely unacceptable service experience. I am appalled.

Overall, had a great experience. I’m in from out of town and was excited to come here after a great experience at a Houston TX Uptown.
My appt was at 7:30, but I was 10 minutes late to my appointment because a cab dropped me off in wrong spot and it’s my 1^st time in NYC. I fully expected I’d have to wait to be worked back in.
The girl at the counter was cool & got me a drink while I waited, which was no big deal. I noticed there were yellow roses in the glass vase, they hold a special meaning in Texas, where I’m from, which was a neat thing to see as a detail in the waiting area.
The girl that was doing my hair was new & told me it was her first day. Also, My hair vision board is a tall order, I like a lot of volume like the Southern Comfort & Some Cosmo/​Cosmo Tai features. I have longish thick straight hair that sheds big time, which I let her know that I needed gentle detangling, which she did a great job of.
She really was nice, and overall did a great job– but, if I had known more about this location I might have requested someone with a little more Drybar experience by name, but from reading reviews for this one, it was hard to pick a stylist that had been consistently mentioned. For it being her first day, this was really good. I could easily tell that with ongoing drybar experience, that stylist will be an asset to this location.
The volume was perfect, but I think next time I would’ve asked her for more work on the curls/​waves. I requested a good balance of the flexible hold hair spray (Money Maker) & wanted to try some of the stronger hold spray too (The Sheriff), which she did as requested. I had more champagne and movie «Bridesmaids» was playing on TV screens with closed caps – The scene from the airplane, hilarious!
Another note, it had been raining earlier that day, so I knew what to expect with my hair type & style hold under those conditions. Upon checkout, I bought some product & there was a delay on my end with my CC that I had to call the bank on. I had a good chat with a guy, Andrew or Anthony, whom I think I perceived to be filling in for this location as a manager. I’m guessing there’s a lot of turnover at this one. I asked him my random/​curious drybar questions & he shared some interesting info about drybar. I’d like to visit his normal location, Soho — if I get a chance. Even though it was near closing time, I asked if he had someone who could touch up my hair.
A lady stylist, who’s name I didn’t catch touched my hair up with tighter curls, and it was perfect for the rest of the evening — great work by her as well. Again, overall had a great experience for this being my first NYC location to visit.

I’ve been here twice and I’m yet to say «wow». The first time I went I got their Mai tai which looked nice at the salon. Later that night when I was running my fingers through my hair I found a clip the stylist had left behind. This last time the stylist barely gave me any curl and when I said that it didn’t looks like it would last until the start of my party (2 hours later) she said I should go home and clip my hair up. I left confused. Sure enough the slight curl, more like a wave really, didn’t hold up an hour.
So why do I choose to go here when the experience is subpar? It’s cheapish, convenient to the Bryant Park train stops, close to the Sephora where I tend to get my makeup done, and they offer champagne.
I wouldn’t come to this location just to do my hair. But when pairing it with makeover at Sephora it’s continent.

This location on 39^th is near Bryant Park and Grand Central. It’s your standard DryBar experience. I usually ask for a double shampoo, request that my stylist use a defanging comb before beginning the blow dry and to use the boar bristle brush which pulls less than the normal round brush.

Booking online was simple and quick. I made an appointment in the morning for a wash and dry in the afternoon. It is super close to my job as well and I figured why not spend my hour lunch getting my hair done. Checking in was easy and the receptionist was very nice. I love the layout of the place and the stylist assigned to me was very friendly. The hair washing process was standard but I do wish she was more careful because water got into the back of my shirt and that was unpleasant. I requested my hair get blown out straight with some volume. She delivered what I wanted and no complaints there. I wasn’t exactly blown away with how fast I lost the volume in my hair. I’d come back if I was in a crunch to get my hair washed and blown out because the location is so close to where I work.

Love these blow-​out bars everywhere in NYC these days! Not quite as many as nail salons, yet, but still, you can find one close by anywhere in Manhattan these days.
You can make appointments or walk in. It was busy when I was there so id make an appt if I had a deadline. But if I wasn’t in a hurry, and this was a treat «just because» I’d pop in anytime and wait.
I will comment that I saw some results not quite as good as some others. Could be a personal view, but it was confirmed by reading other reviews of this place. So your stylist matters.

Came here recently for a blow out. The ambience here is very chic and elegant minimalist. Lots of white walls, satin plush wall accents, chandeliers made out of bright and shiny vintage looking yellow blow-​dryers, bright yellow furniture accent tables, lots of yellow flowers and their brushes, flat irons, curling irons and hair styling tools are also — you guessed it — yellow! I appreciate the design consistency and excellent use of branding colors, lol.
I arrived at 5:15pm for my 5pm appointment and I did reach out in advance to let them know that I was running a bit late. Around 6:30pm, with a complimentary glass of wine wine in hand, I was finally taken in for my appointment. I consider my waiting an hour karma for arriving 15 minutes late… luckily for me my evening was clear although I was hoping to to not get home around 9pm… but I did anyway — this is why I removed a star from what could have been a 5 star experience… I also asked for a glass of water which took about 40 minutes. My hairstylist was NaDeja and she did a really stunningly fantastic job. My hair is far from easy. It’s super long (past my wait), really thick and my natural texture is curly/​wavy/​big. She both washed and blew out my hair into a «Dirty Martini» style from their hairstyle menu.
In DryBar’s own words, «The Dirty Martini is a tousled and textured blowout. It has tons movement and some VERY loose waves throughout. I like to refer to it as a messier & more texturized and tousled version of the Mai Tai». Given how long and thick my hair is, this style was pretty perfect and different from the Cosmo that I usually get whenever I’ve come to a DryBar — which to be honest, isn’t often because I don’t do much to my hair to begin with.
I’m a pretty low-​maintence gal, but I do enjoy treating myself occasionally. Even the products that they use feel and smell so luxurious and fantastic. Their Triple Sec spray is my absolute favorite thing here! It texturizes and provides movement and adds soft, matte texture for a perfectly tousled look, livens up flat hair with intense volume and fullness and functions as a clear, light dry shampoo, absorbing oils and leaving hair feeling fresh and clean. It’s best to have them apply this after blowout for extra texture, volume and oomph.
4 stars, I’d be back and be more vocal so I’m not stuck waiting over an hour — but overall DryBar blowouts are always fantastic.

I mainly go to the Drybar in Newport Beach, CA and they are very consistent. I was traveling here and had an event and I needed to get my hair done. I booked my mother an appointment at around the same time. Both of us came out with our hair looking worse then when we came in. My stylist was sweet, but it has to be more then a coincidence that both my mother and I (different stylists) were both extremely disappointed in our hair. So sad because I had a really big occasion and I was looking forward to having perfect hair. I would not go here again.

I booked an appt here since there was a miscommunication at the UES side location (which you shouldn’t ever bother going to). I’d never been to this spot and was blown away by how large & nice it was — a hidden gem in midtown! Alexis greeted me, discussed what I wanted and for what occasion, made sure I had a beverage, and overall made sure I was comfortable the whole time. She also gave me an awesome head massage during the wash — not sure this is something I will add on going forward but after the morning mishap I felt it was warranted. I showed her the straight up with a little curl at the bottom and explained that my hair didn’t hold curls very well so I would need a tighter curl that would fall by the evening — and she did just that. I was very happy with the blowout which lasted into the next day and probably would’ve lasted a third day! During my last blowout at the awful UES location I left with terrible flyaways and assumed it was the fault of my not-​so-​healthy hair, however, flyaways were not even the slightest issue this time around. I think this proves the stylist makes the difference.
For me this location isn’t the most convenient BUT I really liked the salon and was happy with my blowout. I’ll keep it in mind for future blowouts. If you find yourself booking an appt, I recommend Alexis — very sweet & knows what she is doing!

I’ve been wanting to try Drybar for the LONGEST time. (Like almost a year now) … I FINALLY booked an appointment for the Saturday of Valentine’s Day weekend. I was attending the Billy Joel concert that night so I figured it’s a special enough occasion to get my hair done.
I made my appointment on their website… no problems with that. Got a confirmation e-​mail with a few more details on what I need to do — come 10 – 15 mins early, come with dirty hair…
I arrived for my 3:30 p.m. appointment around 3:20. The place was PACKED! Every washing sink and blowout seat was full. I checked in with a friendly host and she told me to take a seat and that my washer would be with me in a few minutes. I waited 5 minutes and my washer came over to greet me. She took my coat and scarf to hang up in their closet. I was directed towards the washing room and seated. You’re given a stool to put your feet on and a thick towel is placed under your neck — no discomfort at all! (that’s a first since it’s usually extremely uncomfortable to get your hair washed)
The wash lasted about 15 minutes. The water pressure on the hose was a little too soft for my comfort but my washer took her time to make sure all the shampoo and conditioner was fully rinsed. She made just the right amount of small talk — not too much and not too little. After the wash, I was seated at a blowout chair with my hair wrapped in a towel bun.
My blowout stylist, Jennifer, came over about 2 – 3 minutes later — introduced herself and offered me a drink. She didn’t hesitate to get started on blowdrying my hair once I told her what kind of style I was looking for — the ‘Cosmo.’ I asked for a middle part, loose curls, a little bit of volume.
I was SO happy with the result and the entire experience overall. Will definitely start adding Drybar to be a part of helping me get ready for more special occasions.

I cannot stop raving about this place to my friends and coworkers! I was here last week in dire need of a hair pick-​me-​up for a company holiday party I attended the same evening at 8pm. My reservation was for 1:15pm and I didn’t get seated right away since my stylist (Thalia/​Tanisha?) was finishing up with another client. It happens! I understand, I was worried since I had to be at work by 3pm but the receptionist at the front (Shante) was more than reassuring that I would be out the door quickly.
This was my first dry bar/​blow dry bar experience and from the friendly people I met to the welcome champagne, I felt like I was being well looked after. I was seated for hair wash by 1:30pm and the styling process began at 1:40pm. I showed my stylist a few photos of what I wanted and asked if it was more like a Cosmo or Mai Tai or Cosmo Tai. She looked and said she knew what would look great on me — I was sold and trusted her 100%. She asked what time my party is so that she can ensure the curls last for the after party! The styling process was complete by 2:30pm and I was out the door by 2:40pm. I made it to work with 5 minutes to spare and had nothing but compliments throughout the day and night.
I can’t wait to be back!

Drybar Bryant Park really helped me out yesterday when I was in a pinch! My building had no hot water (and this girl could not go another day on dry shampoo alone) and thankfully this location is right around the corner from my office. I booked an 8:30am appointment hoping to make it into the office around 9:00 and everything went so smoothly, from the check in to the wash and the actual styling. My stylist, Claudia, did an AMAZING job on my hair, it came out perfect!

Let me start off by saying that the young woman managing the front was pretty rude. Being a first time customer and knowing Dry Bar’s excellent customer service reputation, it made an impression that she didn’t say hello, introduce the Dry Bar process, or make eye contact at the very least. When I finally got her attention, she checked me in and asked if I wanted complimentary champagne (yes) but never delivered it to me once I was in the styling chair.
Allllllll of this was forgotten due to my incredible styling experience. I was seen by Terrence Brown — he was friendly, totally relaxed, and so quick! I was in a rough mood that day and left feeling like I had just grabbed drinks with one of my closest friends. He’s so personable and created a look that was exactly what I had in mind and communicated.
And I made my 5:00pm train to see Beyoncé perform in Philly looking like I woke up like this (lol no) so thanks, Terrence!

This review/​rating is for Ebony. She is AMAZING. 1) I’m Black with very tightly curled natural hair. 2) That means almost no one can successfully do my hair, much less a blowout. I walked out of Drybar with straight bouncy hair. That Never happens. It’s a few days later, and my hair still looks smooth and shiny. Not only did she do a great job, she was nice, helpful, and willing to explain what she was doing and using at each step along the way. I am sure if she can manage my hair so successfully, she will make the rest of you look like super models!
I don’t have anything to say about the other stylists. The receptionist was very kind and patient with me. Of course the place was spotless and looked classy. I went to another chain on the UES (see review and photos), and was not happy. So I do believe you may have to try a few different stores and stylists to find the right match for you. But Ebony is going to be my new best friend.

I can’t rave about this place enough. This chain is what I needed before I even knew I needed it.
As a woman always in commute and always on the go and pressed for time, I needed an affordable place that can make my thick hair straight and fast. Drybar is an oasis, literally offering you a mimosa, wine, or champagne once you get in. You can sip comfortably after they’ve washed your hair and start to dry.
But the wine is really a bonus in a great salon. For fifty bucks, they use quality hair products; I see a lot of «sulfate free» on their labels. And they provide smooth and straight results in a very reasonable amount of time. I started getting into the wine as soon as I sat down to blow dry so I don’t know exactly how much time had passed, but I didn’t get antsy or impatient like I do with other salons.
Service is by no definition uptight. The employees keep things going with a fun vibe, will ask you your zodiac sign and if you like your job. And if you get Myrna, she’ll do a little dance as she takes you from wash station to dry bar. The current pop music plays in the background to keep the space modern and fresh.
Eat Pray Love was playing on their huge flat screen tvs while I sipped my wine for yet another bonus.
I was so impressed with results and customer service that I decided to become a member. For $ 75 a month under no contract I get two blowouts a month at any chain location, and a free blowout on my birthday.
Also my hair smells great.
