Mustafa is the best of NYC. I’ve come to him for the past 5 years and he’s the most reliable, personable, and talented tailor. His quality and eye to detail is a gift.

My fiancé is a serious procrastinator, he didn’t decide until TWO days before heading off to Vegas for his bachelor party that he wanted to get a new suit. After scurrying to Suitsupply after work, he found the one and couldn’t be happier, only issue was that the pants were too big in all the wrong places — we needed a tailor and we needed one who could make perform a miracle in a short period of time.
I glanced down at my phone and saw that it was already nearing 6pm, a quick Unilocal search indicated that most tailors closed shop at 6pm. Right when I was ready to throw in the towel, I stumbled across Laura and Melinda on the Lower East Side. Unlike others, they stayed open until 8pm!
Excitedly I called them and that’s when I have my first interaction with Iesha. She was very pleasant on the phone as I mentioned our little dilemma and assured us that they could get things done if we made it to them prior to them.
A few subway stops and stroll later we all but ran into the store. Laura and Melinda brought back memories of me spending time in the alteration shops that many of my aunts and uncles owned back in Seattle, from the racks crowded with various suits and dresses down to the makeshift dressing rooms with their long thick curtains. Even the distant humming of the sewing machine in the background. The shop was small but clearly had a very loyal clientele.
While we waited for our turn, I watched as Iesha juggled multiple customers, some pleasant and some not so pleasant. I watched in awe as I imagined how I would react to some of the downright annoying requests that some customers asked of her, yet she did everything with a smile. I was very impressed.
Long story short, my fiancé was able to get his pants and shortened and tapered in time to make their grand appearance at his Bachelor party. Iesha and the tailor (I’m sorry I didn’t catch his name) were able to rush our order, we did have to pay an additional charge since he was going to have to work overtime to get the pants done on time — but all worth it.
It’s a bit of a trek for us to get there, but the service and excellent craftsmanship will keep us coming back!

We’ve been coming to Mustafa for 3 years. My husband gets all his suit jackets custom tailored here. Mustafa does a phenomenal job. My husband is 6’2″, with broad shoulders and a large chest and still Mustafa makes his jackets exceptionally clean lined, sleek and stylish. There are no raised folds, bunching, etc.
After observing the quality of his work, the honest time turnaround and he unbeatable price — i actually passed on my bridal atelier for my wedding gown alterations and came to Mustafa. Now my wedding gown was a ball gown and heavily beaded, bedecked on the top. I also came to Mustafa literally 8 days before I had to fly to CA for the wedding (my dress arrived late) and Mustafa got it done. There were some kinks initially but he personally altered the dress to my liking, and again for an absolutely great price.
I just had another dress tailored and remembered to post a review. One tailor in Flatiron quoted me $ 250 for basic hem, sleeve take in and raising the neckline. Mustafa’s price was $ 60. Some tailors try to take you fora ride, but Mustafa is a gem in the city. He is a little quiet and not very expressive, but don’t let that deter you — it’s just his personality. My only advice is take credit cards (cash only right now) and expand the shop and open the dressing rooms. It is like being Houdini trying to dress and undress in there, esp. for gowns.

This place deserves a thousand stars. I got my wedding suit tailored here and it turned out to be absolutely phenomenal. When they were done it was perfect. I’ve never owned anything that fit so well. They were so professional and did an amazing job in not that much time.
I would trust any of my garments in their hands!

I discovered Laura & Melinda via google search approximately a year ago and I have been going there for all of my alterations ever since. Mustafa, the owner is a true professional and a perfectionist. He is friendly and provides excellent service. He is a man of his word and always delivers within the time frame indicated. I have brought over various highend clothing items as well as house hold materials and his work has always met my expectations. His hemming and alteration works have always been perfect. And to top all of this his prices are very reasonable. I have been to many tailors in Manhattan, but have never been entirely satisfied either with their work or their prices until I discovered Laura & Melinda. Now, I won’t go elsewhere!

Every item of clothing I take to Laura & Melinda comes out perfectly. I’ve lost my fair share of clothing to shoddy or mediocre tailoring jobs elsewhere — never again! Now I only take clothing to Laura & Melinda. Over the years, I’ve brought in dresses, skirts, tops, etc. to be taken in, waists taken up, etc. (the woes of someone who stands 5 foot nothing) — and everything is beautifully and flawlessly done. You can’t even tell that anything was altered. I think the pricing is more than fair for the quality, and I’ve never had the turnaround time be more than a week.
He also just altered my wedding dress, which had complicated lace & beading details, in less than a week! He also advised me on how to alter the hem so it would be less expensive, and it ended up actually making the dress even more flattering overall. I always trust their recommendations, but this time I’m especially glad I did.
The only thing is that they are cash only, but I don’t mind that small inconvenience when everything else is perfect. I 100% recommend this place!

I brought my wedding dress here after a couple other tailors declined to work on it because it has some beading. I wanted a quick and easy experience and that’s what I got from Mustafa who is very good at what he does. They did excellent work on my dress including hemming it, inserting some modesty cups for better chest coverage, and bringing in the sides and should straps. It fit me perfectly at my next fitting. I’ve since been back for my other tailoring needs and I don’t even live in the neighborhood. They’re that good! Definitely recommend.

My wife had quite a few gowns altered here and I’ve had a couple suits altered here and we’ll be coming back for all our tailoring needs. They provide excellent, speedy, friendly service and perhaps best of all they are very reasonably priced!

After having a bad experience at Stanton tailor shop I found this place and was greeted right away when I walked in. They were nice and gave attention to my needs explaining everything I wanted and needed to know. Everything was made on time and to perfection. I won’t go anywhere else.

I had two dresses altered here and it was a great experience at a fair price with an amazing turnaround time. Highly recommend!

Brought my favorite APC jeans here to get tapered through the leg. They did a great job and turned them around in 2 days flat. No complaints and fairly priced.

This is my go to place for alterations of all kinds. They were able to take an old boxy suit with pants that were on the baggy side and completely reconstruct it for a more modern custom looking fit. I have sent friends there, and they all have had the same experience. I have had suits, jeans, shirts and more tailored here. There have been times when things were not perfect, but they have always been accommodating to fix.
Things to keep in mind:
— for complex work I always wait for Mustafa.
— They have always been incredibly helpful and friendly. I think your expectations need to be in the right place though. I do not expect white glove service from my tailor. Any time I had a problem (which is rare) I just talked to them about it, and we figured it out.
— For suit jackets there is one guy who specializes in this — definitely inquire about him!
The old shop had a bit more charm, but the new one as more room. I highly recommend!!!

This place is so good! They’re a bit out of the way for me, but definitely worth the trip. I had my wedding dress tailored here and it was great. They listened to what I want and offered an opinion when I wasn’t sure what to do. It was far less expensive than going to a bridal store for alterations. They first did the hem and redid it because it was still a bit long (good in my opinion bc once you cut it short there’s no turning back) and then I came back to try it on after they took it in the back. I can’t even tell where they did the work on the dress, and I grew up with a mom who was a seamstress!
I was a bit skeptical since this place looks like it does mostly men’s suits but they really know their stuff! I would definitely recommend going here. I took a new top coat for them to shorten the hem on it and I can’t wait to get it back.
The turn around time is one week and from the work they did on my wedding dress it’s really good and not expensive at all.

I was guided to this tailor shop by Unilocal,and my great experiences there compelled me to direct others there via Unilocal.
I’ve given them simple things such as coat buttons that need to be reinforced and slightly more challenging projects like taking in and hemming a chiffon bridesmaid dresses as well as relining winter coats. They’re real pros and I trust them to do quality work every time.
Their prices are fair for the good work they do. Fixing a button and patching a silk shirt and a cotton tank top will cost you around $ 12 (for all 3 tasks combined) while relining the sleeves of your winter coat runs about $ 40 (that includes the fabric cost).
Mustafa and his team do good, honest work. And if you’re in a rush to have something done, they’ll usually work to meet your timeline. I highly recommend them!

I came in to get my suit tailored. They did a fine job when I came back to get it after about a week.
I had the length of the pants fix, sleeves shortened, waist and armpit area taken in. It all cost about $ 100.
Not cheap, but I did need a lot fixed and it was done well.

I got my wedding dress altered (it was size 12 whereas I am size 2 or 4). At the bridal shop where I purchased it they said that the alterations would take 2 months and would cost me almost the price I’d paid for the dress. Laura & Melinda did it within 2 days and I paid 6 times less than what I would have paid at the bridal salon! The dress fits great with no preliminary fitting days.
I never heard from them anything about Unilocal-​reviews and discounts for doing those.
Sadly, they don’t do dry-​cleaning.

i was looking for quality tailors in the LES and was amazed at how many reviews they had, i figured they must be reputable. little did i know they inflated their review count (good for them for smart marketing). also want to note the service is very nice and courteous, no complaints in that department.
however, the alterations themselves were sub-​par. brought in a pea coat and the fitting seamed very casual and rushed. got the pea coat back and it doesn’t fit at all. had to donate it to salvation army.
tried out the tailoring room on clinton instead and even though they were much, much more expensive, they took their time with the fitting to get it just right and they did amazing work on multiple suits.
if you’re in the area just go to tailoring room and they’re clearly number one shop in the LES.

I rarely write reviews, but have to do this since they pay people $ 10 to write good reviews about them.
Would have done a good job if they didn’t put a whole in my pants and cut the jacket too low. Trying to be too trendy and couldn’t maintain quality. Gabrielle was very nice in trying to help me, however the owner refused to re-​do the work on a suit I was willing to rebuy, for free or at a substantial discount. If anyone has any good tailors in NYC, please let me know I’m in the market. Thanks
