Jill Platner

I am writing in light of the negative reviews I’ve seen on Unilocal,because I have had only very positive experiences here.
I absolutely LOVE the jewelry — yes, it is expensive, but it is very unique and very well thought-​out. It is very comfortable, and since I wear it every day I think that it is worth every penny. I can wear most pieces without them ever getting uncomfortable — I have had some bracelets on for over 3 – 4 years.
I am by no means rich, but have purchased (mostly the less expensive) pieces over time, at the sales they have each year, and have sold them my gold for credit towards pieces. I have had nothing but excellent experience with the people that work in the store — they are always very friendly and I have had pieces lengthened and repaired many times without a problem.

I need to edit my review of this place.

Garbage. Don’t bother. The jewelry itself is interesting, organic, and inspired from an artist’s perspective, even though it is expensive for what it is, but her idea of how to run a business needs a lot of help.
I have several pieces of her jewelry, all purchased from Barneys, which included a couple of matching Abacus bracelets. I don’t like to wear jewelry on my hands and wrists much anymore, due to rheumatoid arthritis, so I decided to sell the two bracelets on ebay. I was able to sell them for a little less than half of what I paid, given my Chicago tax used to be over 10% back when I bought these bracelets. The buyer decided the bracelets were too short for her and sent them in to Jill Platner’s studio to have them restrung, at a cost, based on information provided on the company website. An employee of the company wrote the young lady and indicated that they couldn’t find her name as having purchased the bracelets, and wanted to know where she purchased them from. She replied to her, and provided the information as to where she purchased them, and all hell broke loose. The Jill Platner studio accused my bracelets of being «fake,» because they were probably interested in selling the young lady two new bracelets, at the retail price.
Good luck. Neither one of us will ever buy your jewelry, again.
And you will find the rest of my Jill Platner pieces on ebay, also. Bad business decision from a small company who should be more interested in keeping their clients, rather than pissing them off.

Jill Platner’s shop in Nolita is a little bit of calm in the hustle and bustle of NYC. Beautifully merchandised, the shop is a canvas for her amazing jewelry. Each piece is hand crafted in the shop and holds up to much wear and tear. Jill has been at her designs for decades; so many people copy her style, but they lack the weight and vibrancy of her jewels. You put on a Jill piece and if feels natural and a part of you. I have worn my pieces for years and they are timeless in their organic and modern design. They have survived swimming in oceans, daily showers and life.
Her staff has gone through some changes so if you had a not so pleasant experience in the past, you should give them a chance again. Everyone was super nice when we were there. They had no clue that I know Jill so it was sincere politeness/​service.
The prices are not cheap. This is not your run of the mill jewelry store. You are buying art. Please remember that. I have definitely gotten my 700 dollars worth from my necklace… I wear it almost all the time. What drives me crazy is that some cheap base metal coated with gold plate Chanel bracelet is twice the price but half the quality. Do yourself a favor and visit the shop and experience her jewels. You will probably be hooked.

I am totally in love with Jill Platner’s jewelry. I am a snowboard instructor and an avid swimmer. I think her jewelry is very well-​suited to an active lifestyle. HOWEVER, I find that the variation in prices doesn’t make sense. There are pieces that cost up to $ 3000.. Comparing that to the necklaces that are around $ 400, I don’t see that the design or value justifies the drastic price difference.
Her designs are stunning. Her prices don’t match the pieces. That’s my opinion.
