Jack’s Place

Went to jack’s place because it was recommended by someone at at&t to get my phone unlocked quickly. They said it would take 2 – 3 days. After 2 days I called to get an update and no word. Called again late on the second day and they said it should be/​might be done by 7PM that day. But they close at 7 and I spoke to them at 6:15. So that was also pretty unhelpful because I wasn’t going to go all the way to their location just because my phone might be unlocked. So I went the next day and when I pick up my phone *then* they tell me that it couldn’t be unlocked. Without them knowing why it couldn’t be unlocked and having no explanation I had to leave. They did not charge me and it might not be their fault for my phone having issues, but they did not call me that morning to tell me it didn’t work, and they lead me to believe it was going to be unlocked the day earlier. This means that they didn’t even start unlocking my phone until the third day or very late the second day, so when they tell you 2 – 3 days for your phone unlock, just know its probably sitting there for a third of that time not being fixed at all — unprofessional. Overall unhappy, even if i did need some other service done I would go elsewhere because of the bad customer service.

Jack’s was easy for me to get to during my lunch hour so I tried it out. The guy behind the counter said he could fix my phone by end of day, and I believed him. Simple cracked screen he had to repair. When I arrived at 6pm, they said they needed to order the part which would be in the next day. I expressed my distress, explaining I needed it ASAP and I would take it to somewhere else that could provide me same day service. They assured me it would be done the next day, and that they could deliver it to my office before I was out of work. 5pm rolled around, no phone. Unfortunately it was Friday and I had to leave town for the weekend. So now I was stuck with my horrible outdated blackberry for the next few days because they could not deliver a service I requested in the specified timeframe. When I went to pick up the phone, the best they could do for me after me explaining what happened both on the phone and in person, was 10% off which basically just covered the tax … which I find to be pretty pathetic. We are in New York City and you need to be upfront if you cannot deliver the service your client has requested. It would have been perfectly easy for him to check if he had the parts in stock before assuring me I could have same day service. I left my phone their to be fixed under false pretenses and I was not happy in the end.

Very dishonest. Took my phone, told me it’ll be repaired in a day or two. Fast forward 5 weeks later, finally calling me with the news that the motherboard was replaced. At this point of course I already had bought a replacement phone, being kept hanging day after day, week after week.
When I visit to pick up the phone, I’m ready to hand over the money in cash… then thankfully say in the last second «Okay, let’s turn it on and see…», and low and behold, it does not turn on.
They did not provide me with my old motherboard nor with a receipt or any proof that indeed anything new was installed. I took the unrepaired phone back, not paying anything, as nothing was actually done, and they did not fight it at all which was proof enough that they knew I was on to them and that they better behave before I make a stink. Well, I’m leaving a review now.
They tried to cash in $ 150 for having done nothing. He even lied saying they transferred all my data over the new motherboard /​flash memory… it’s the same flash memory, nothing was exchanged!
I personally think from my experience they are totally dishonest, and that their modus operandus is to hope they can fix something quick by just opening the unit, cleaning some contacts and making it turn on again, then telling the customer whatever they like in order to get the premium price they like. I’ll never ever go back there again.
Places like these should be out of business. Sorry guys, but karma will bite you. This is the day and age of transparency, disclosure, and honesty.
Epilogue: I brought my unit to Phototek and got it fixed within a week for less money. Why Nokia would endorse this place is way beyond my understanding.

i just dont know. i just got back from buying a sim card tray for an iphone 6+ for $ 15. there is no way it costs that much. amazon is selling them for $ 6, with shipping. price gouging by jack AND his place.
that being said, i dont really care/​is it an iphone? the guy is just flooded with old blackberrys and really high pleated pants. his pants started right below his armpits and had 6 pleats on each side. he’s living the goddamn dream!

Came here one day a month back to get a screen protector on my iPhone 6.
First of all, it cost me $ 10 for a subpar screen protector. It was this weird matte texture that almost immediately scratched when I left the store. Also it bothered me for a month after b/​c you could clearly see that there was a screen protector on the screen.
Second of all, the guy who put it on was 1) unfriendly (which was fine), but also 2) put the screen protector on CROOKED. The thing covered half of my front facing camera and it was sticking out on one of the corners!!!
I had to go home and put on the thing myself. I’m writing a review now b/​c I just purchased a pack of 3 for $ 3.95 on Amazon and tossed the one from here. My phone screen has never looked better.

Attentive, courteous and very professional. Gave me good advice although it meant not buying anything from their shop.

I went back there to speak with the owner. He is a very nice guy and listened to what I had to say and deeply apologized for how the staff handled the situation. He promised me that he would personally take care of it. He was very professional. I had to leave my phone over night since he said that he should order a new mother board for the phone. I just got my phone back and its working perfectly. And they did not charge me for anything. I really was very impressed with how the owner handled the situation. They are really good at doing repair. i thought I have to throw my phone out but its completely fixed. I am very happy and I would be back for sure!

I came in here today per the recommendation of the ATT store. It was closing in half an hour and I had a shattered iphone screen. The man said he couldn’t do it tonight because he was backed up but that I could pick it up the next day. I am going out of town so that was not a possibility. I explained and he then took my phone directly to the back and had it fixed perfectly within 15 mins! It was a $ 75 flat rate for screen replacement, which is cheaper than the upgrade situation happening with ATT now. Meantime I watched him help 3 – 4 other customers quickly and politely. Everyone seemed happy leaving this store. He was very friendly and clearly has a skilled staff. I would definitely recommend this place!

Still a little iffy on the communication front, but when it comes crunch-​time Jack gets it done. It saved me from sorting out another phone, so amen.

Went in to fix a friends cracked screen, same day service! Only took about one half hour. They sell almost everything you can think of in a little store. They sell phones and all the necessary accoutrements. I’ll be back for sure.

I am so disappointed with the repair I received. I originally was looking for a stand-​alone battery charger since the charging port on my GS 3 was going bad. I didn’t want to bother with a repair because I honestly don’t trust repair shops much. Nonetheless, the person insisted that the repair was simple and that it wouldn’t be a problem. I made the mistake of telling him that I was going to be traveling… DO NOT LET THEM know you are traveling… I feel that by telling them that, they knew that I couldn’t come back to complain if they didn’t fix it. When I picked up the phone, I was already late for my flight so I paid and ran out. It wasn’t until after the fact that I began to doubt the repair because he mentioned there was some wire on the inside he couldn’t repair. Why was I charged when he couldn’t fix the phone. It’s my mistake for paying the bill but ultimately the repair was not completed properly and I lost $ 50.
Travelers stay away since you won’t have a chance to raise hell after you’ve been taken advantage of.

I went to Jack’s place to get my iPhone 5 unlocked. Picked it up, paid $ 35, went to Ireland and put a new sim in. Not unlocked at all and I have now been stranded without a phone for over a week. In fact, apart from scratching the side of the phone, I don’t think they did anything with it. Rip-​off merchants. I only wish I was still in NYC so I could demand my money back. Avoid.

My phone was one foot in the grave when I left ATT. It was turning on and off for weeks. More and more frequently, until I walked into Jack’s and it breathing near it’s last breath. The phone was moaning, trying to turn on so it was not comotose, but very close. I had waited too long. First he thought it might be the battery, then another part which he ordered for 75 $ and after two days when he put those in, it still didn’t work. He offered little hope but asked me to leave it over night for one last effort. So, I come in the next day and he says. It’s good as new. Ready to go. I’m like dumbfounded. Apparently some sticky liquid had gotten behind the panel and he managed to get it out. Whew! with no back up and the thought of losing all my data and pictures to this angel that landed on my shoulder and got it right. And the icing on the cake was that he only charged me $ 65, less than the cost of the first part, that did not do the trick. Unfortunately, I don’t know his name but he works like 7 days a week, and is a calm, kind, Middleastern very thin gentleman. And I can assure you if your phone is near death and anything can be done. He will resurect it. The best.

Had to go back and forth 5 times, out $ 60 and phone never worked. They are a rip off! I think they use used parts. Went to another electronics store that fixes iPhones and my phone now works. I would never go back!

I broke my Lumia 900’s display a few days ago. Nokia asked me to back up my phone and send it to some repair shop in AL. Instead I bought a new display off Amazon and then start calling all the nearby mobile repair places.
Jack’s Place quoted the most reasonable price (at least in Manhattan) and I took my phone there. My phone was repaired and was back w/​me within 20 min!
I definitely recommend them for any mobile repairs.

Jack’s is the best! You need your phone fixed instead of waiting weeks, or losing info, they can do it fast and reasonable. They also know their stuff and carry or can get you any phone! No place in NYC better to fix your phone! Anything. You love your phone and don’t want another, Jack’s is the place. They have helped me and family and friends many times!!! I was referred to Jack’s via Nokia’s warranty repair care point locator after the screen lock slide button broke off my Nokia N97. Instead of sending it into Nokia’s service center in Texas and waiting about 2 weeks to get it fixed, I decided to bring my phone to Jack’s. At first glance the place looks just like any other wireless phone retailer. The staff was knowledgeable and courteous and not pushy at all. I dropped the phone off for the in warranty repair on a Tuesday and it was finished by the next afternoon. It was a quick and clean (free) transaction.
