For years this location was called the Viand and while not the world’s most sought after diner, things were OK. When the new guys took over, their previous diner was the SW corner of 86th Street and First Ave. and was also called Gracie’s, I thought things might improve. But they began pumping up the prices so that many things available there are the same price as more upscale restaurants in the area. Why would they do this? The night staff looks like extras for the set of the Godfather. Well, gracie’s made the offer and I refused.

This is my go to for a late dinner on the upper east side. The service is quick and friendly. The prices are normal for a Manhattan diner. Normally I eat at the restaurant, but occasionally I order delivery and it is lightening fast! I’ve stuck mostly to eggs and grilled chicken(typical diner fare), so I can’t speak to some of the stuff on the menu, but everything I’ve ordered has been good.

I regret not walking a few blocks over to Big Daddy’s. My family and I stopped by here to have an early dinner and Altho the server was«ok» nothing to compliment, the food was horrendous. I am fully aware that a diner isn’t known for Mexican food so I’ll say little about their«nachos supreme». But I can see the cheese slices still in tact over the store bought nachos. My husband ordered a BLT and received a turkey sandwich that he couldn’t finish and just poked at the deli cut pieces of turkey meat. My kids wanted chicken fingers and they were half slices of chicken breasts fried, definitely not appetizers more like a toddlers arms on a plate. To TOP it all off, after we paid and left without a doggy bag bc we knew we weren’t gonna eat any of it at home, we notice they charged us an additional ten dollars to the already expensive bill on overpriced meals. We had left cash tip on the table so Taking it upon themselves to withdraw tip is unethical. We didn’t complain about the food because it just wasn’t worth it and knew whatever they replaced it with was gonna be as disappointing. DEFINITELY will not be returning to this establishment, what a shame because we took a chance despite all the construction around.

My regular diner was closed for a while so I though I would give Gracie’s a try. I was served promptly and the food quality was acceptable and the price was reasonable. What was absolutely unacceptable was the attitude of the staff. Traditionally after a meal the waiter/waitress asks if you would like your check. Not here. I watched and waited as they entire staff continually ignored me. Finally after I gave in to their sick little game(I would have played all day, but I had to be somewhere) I heard a chuckle. I don’t think this is a good way to win new customers. I’ll never eat there again and I would warn everyone to stay away. Big Daddy’s is right down the street with better food and MUCH better attitude.

Maybe one day when the 2nd Ave subway is finished. But for now why not walk a few blocks to a coffee/diner which doesn’t have to deal with the noise and dirt right outside their door. Food is diner food not good not bad but eatable. Nothing to write home about!

Ordered food and never got it. Tried to refund and they told me that they couldn’t. Completely took money from me and I got nothing from it.

Rarely do I encounter such incredibly bad service that moves me to leave an angry review. This review is merely based on service as I never had a chance to try the food. Last night was New Year’s Eve and we ordered late delivery, knowing and accepting the restaurant will be busy and the food will take awhile. When ordering on my phone, I hit Order before changing the address to my brother’s apartment where we were. I quickly realized my mistake and tried to call the restaurant to correct the typo before the food went out. A guy picked up, but when I said«Hi, I ordered on grubhub – » he cut me off saying«On it’s way we’re busy» and hung up on me. Pissed off, I call back and begin with«Hey I’m not saying it’s late I just need to change my address» and he literally says the same thing and hangs up again. Thinking my girlfriend would handle it better than me, I let her try, and he does the same to her two more times. Unsure what else to do, we figured we’d let the delivery guy just call when he gets to the wrong address. Never received a phone call, and in the morning I tracked the order to see it was never even sent out. I tried again today and spoke with a manager who I hoped could sort out the confusion and just refund my money(after all the food wasn’t even sent). The guy cut me off saying«you didn’t answer when our guy called,» interrupting before I could even explain what happened. To reiterate, no one called. I guess he just says this to anyone who questions a delivery. He concluded with«it was your mistake, you pay for your mistake» and hung up. Um, excuse me? Someone would actually say that to a customer? Thankfully Grubhub took my side of the story and erased the charge. But any remote chance of us trying this place again is gone. Me, my girlfriend, my brother and his fiancé, and any one who ever asks me about this diner will know the rude service of multiple employees and avoid it. In the end they didn’t get my money and they got another bad review on Unilocal. That’s life when you treat patrons like garbage.

I’ve been ordering from here for over two years. The quality of the food has just tremendously gone down. I’ve had so many bad experiences from incorrect order, extra charges to horrible food that I finally had to share my feedback. The homes fries used to be so flavorful and now it’s literally bland potatoes and pancakes that seemed they were made last week, stored away and then put in a microwave before being sent out for delivery. $ 30 for two orders of horrible pancakes and one order of bland homefries. My iced coffee was 90% half and half. Never ever ordering again !

Good diner in Yorkville. I have been here a couple of times since it moved from 1st Avenue to 2nd Avenue, and it remains a reliable spot in the neighborhood. It is open 24 – 7 so it is suitable for any early breakfast and/or late night cravings. The layout consists of a bar setup to the right with booths to the left and back of the diner. It is somewhat narrow, though it makes for a cozy diner atmosphere. The staff has always been very friendly and attentive in my experiences. I have never felt rushed to finish my meals, which makes for relaxing outings. The food menu provides good variety similar to most diners, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. I recently came here for a late night dinner with some friends and ordered the chicken fingers with fries, which were OK. My experiences when ordering from the breakfast menu have been more enjoyable. Some of my favorites for breakfast include the egg sandwiches, eggs benedict, and blueberry pancakes. Overall, this is a good place to grab classic diner food. I recommend coming here for breakfast, and I look forward to my next visit!

Ordered late night delivery. Poor telephone service, order requests not made and I was overcharged. The positive — — their vegetable omelette is good, but only if it’s ordered exactly how they make it I suppose.(I ordered cheese with my veggie omelette and the cheese add on was Barely melted and horrible) — the delivery guy was friendly The negative: — the man taking the order on the phone was extremely rude, barking, snapping at me as I gave my order. It was so bad I was almost laughing — Being so thrilled to be back in NYC city after an event outside the city, I even laughed off the rude guy(«oh those late night diner folks ha — ha — ha «) … And peeled off the barely melted slab of Swiss cheese that couldn’t be eaten in its form — I ordered an English muffin but they gave me toast — I requested extra jam for my muffin and they only gave me one — charged me $ 5 more for the menu item than listed on the bill Recommend for the veggie omelette and some late night Nyc diner attitude: D

We ordered take out for breakfast /lunch today and it was great. Quick service, huge portions and delicious food. I ordered the Greek salad and loved it — came with lots of olives, feta, scallion and even artichoke hearts. Try the house dressing it’s great. We also had some breakfast items that were delicious(eggs, potatoes, bacon, toast). Only downfall to this spot is the cost, but it’s similar to any diner you’ll find in the city. Worth the stop!

It’s ok for a diner. Nothing special, you get what you get. Not too pricey tho– some diners are like $ 16 for an omelette. We enjoyed it, went because it was convenient.

We had lunch at Gracie on 2nd today. The food is great. The prices reasonable. Service fast and friendly. My issue is the place is packed like sardines. I remember now why I stopped going to Viand. It is a small crowded space. We were put in the front window. I could not feel comfortable. I asked to be moved to a booth. At least I was not sitting on top and bumping in to the person next to and in back of me. Even in the booth servers and bus staff were rushing by in the extremely narrow isle. The place needs a gut renovation. First they give you complimentary cole slaw and pickle. The cole slaw is really good. We both had grilled cheese sandwiches with bacon and fries. My fries were sweet potato, a dollar more. The plate looked nice. The tomato and lettuce on the side are wasteful. We didn’t eat it. Didn’t look appetizing and I’m allergic to tomato. I hate to see food go to waste. I’ll know next time to tell them to leave it off. Service was super fast. Our waiter was wonderful. The four star rating is for something out of the employees control. The size of the space made me knock them down a star. I’ll return for a late breakfast, or early lunch, on a weekday. I hope I will enjoy a quiet, non congested, relaxed atmosphere at that time. If not, I’m movin’ on to another diner.

I love finding a place where I can sit for 2 – 3 hours, drink 27 gallons of coffee and eat a good breakfast. Just bought a place at 85th and 3rd and tried 4 different places, all closer than this. My search is over. Great food, nice, clean environment, and the best customer service I’ve had in NY. Yes, great customer service at a diner. I will be spending many mornings here in the future.

Nice little 24 hour diner, a convenience in my neighborhood. It is what you expect the diner to be, simple tables and booths, no glitz. Good service, where wait staff yells the orders to the kitchen. Clean restrooms. Fair prices. Love going for lazy breakfasts where you can just chill out, eat some good food, sip on some good coffee for a couple hours and do some 2nd ave people watching through the windows!

Great chicken soup, but besides that, better diners near by. They make their prices up it seems. $ 28 for soup, two bananas and two teas at first, then called them out, it went to $ 23, and finally paid $ 14. The math was still off, but I had to get out of there.

I stopped in twice this summer and was so happy I did because Gracie’s is a diner run like many diners were in the 1970’s when people had time to talk to you and make you feel welcome. I have only had coffee and a blueberry muffin(grilled). Both were delicious. I am not often on the East Side during the morning, but when I am this will be a definite stop!

Meh. It’s an average diner at best. Open 24⁄7 so it’s good to hit up for some breakfast or a burger after a late night out. Ok food but a bit pricey for what it is. Service is good. They used to be located just down the street on the corner of 86th and 1st. The old spot where ex-Yank David Wells got stabbed with a fork. This spot was always kind of beat up and in need of a serious renovation when it was Viand. Seems they fixed it up a bit. Have dropped in here a few times for breakfast and results have been uneven. Pancakes are good, eggs are blah, coffee is sometimes too dark, home fries are ok. Seating is a bit cramped. Food does come out quickly. I feel the food was much better at it’s old spot. It’s basically still the Viand diner with a new coat of paint and a name change. I guess if in the area, walking by and starving, it’s a good stop for a quick diner bite. Otherwise, there are many other places to eat close by.

A very average diner. Service was rather slow and it was difficult to find our waiter and get his attention. It was also cramped, at least for my taste, as people kept brushing against me as I sat in the booth and whenever the party behind me sat back, I was able to feel it on my end as the seats gave in. I ordered the lumberjack(pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, ham and toast) and while plentiful, largely forgettable.

A decent diner in the area. Go in, grab a seat, be handed a menu, choose what you want to eat. We all know you only show up to a diner after drinking and/or if you really want either a grilled cheese or breakfast after 10PM. I had the grilled cheese deluxe which came with fries, tomato, and lettuce. The grilled cheese was pretty good and they keep hot sauce on the table(which is always a win in my book). The fries were good and crispy. It hit the spot and did its job of soaking up all the beer we had been drinking.

I LOVEGRACIES !!! A friend and I came to NYC for a few days of leisure and the roommates we had suggested Gracies because it was close to where we were staying. What a perfect recommendation !!! If you like the nostalgia feel of a diner, coupled with a delicious plate of affordable eats, then Gracies is your place! We ate there twice, and as a matter a fact, this was our ‘last meal’ in NYC before we left. We both ate breakfast, which was served hot and quickly and quite fresh. The plate of two eggs resembled a plate of four eggs back in Indiana! At some point, between the two of us, we had regular bacon, turkey bacon, ham, eggs, grits, waffles, pancakes and toast! OH, and dare I forget those fried potatoes !! They had that southern softness with perfect season and delightfully smothered with onions. I had freshly squeezed apple juice, which was a first. It came out looking like a brew from the tap and tasted like apples mixed with cider, but it was worth a try. I didn’t take a special liking to it but it only made me eat more ! The staff at Gracies is very friendly and you can tell there are a lot of regulars that come. One of the waitstaff joked back and forth with a kid at a table and was frequently smiling and taking orders during both of our trips. The food, the people, the Upper East Side AFFORDABLE eating and the location of Gracies(which also has another one about a block upwards) makes for a perfect breakfast as you rise and shine and prepare to hit the city that never sleeps ! We will be returning !
