Big Daddy’s

I always love me some Big Daddy’s diner. They’ve got the best tater tots in the tri-​state area. They also have the most ridiculous selection of milkshakes I’ve seen to date. It’s not your typical all-​american diner with a 50s theme, but it’s really more like an all-​american pop culture diner throughout the 60s-​70s. There is a ton of memorabilia on the walls to commemorate actors, shows, cartoons from that era. It’s charming. Might not be for everyone but it’s fun in a very casual setting.

Found a used Splenda packet stuck to the inside of my coffee mug, the waitress claimed the mugs were just for show. Amazed that she tried to defend this filth!

Good place to have breakfast, especially if you get there before 11am and order one of the two half-​price specials. I had the special with scrambled eggs, toast, bacon and tater-​tots. The menu said «thick-​cut» bacon but it was actually 3 very thin slices, but tasty. The toast was thick-​cut though, and light (airy). Very tasty, hot coffee and a large portion of food made it worth coming in. Friendly, fast service. Clean restaurant.

Oh fabulous retro fun diner with incredible service, kickback to the 70’s /​80’s décor, music, candy stand and even pac man and galaga video games. Any kid or kid at heart — or fan of retro fun — will enjoy just the atmosphere here.
I’ve been here with kids’ parties and it is a perfect location. I’ve been here with family and friends who have children, also a huge hit where kids from New Jersey, CT and other NYC neighborhoods want to come back. And have been here with just my son. All good fun and every time left happy.
Service always friendly and recently Ms fabulous friendly V was our server. Looking at the menu I said the boozy brunch special looked good as I was achey, but it was Friday night, I was with my son. So asked what to have for a gal feeling cranky, crampy and hungry. V lit up and said I have the perfect thing. Her confidence and personality were so convincing I let her recommend and get for me whatever she wanted — a loaded Dude burger with onion ring instead of fries substitute — and a divine ache healing spiked super chocolatey milkshake. Wow. Fantastic. We left full, entertained from video games, relaxed, not crampy and happy.
Highly recommend for families, kids, kids at heart who like a retro diner experience with great service, food and — games !

This place is great for teenagers who don’t care about the food or service. We wandered in here hoping to get a quick bite. The server Tyrone was very sweet, but not a very good waiter. He forgot to put in our appetizer order, we waited for him to finally bring it out after 40 minutes. When the spinach asparagus dip came out it was mostly cold and the chips were stale. Then we waited another 20 minutes for the rest of our food to come out. It was just mediocre. After waiting all that time my friend asked for French fries and he brought her tater totes, said that they are making another batch of French fries. She said can I have onion rings instead and he tells her that would be extra, really after all this waiting and forgetting to put in our appetizer order you couldn’t get the girl some onion rings with out extra charge?
Then he kept forgetting the rest of our drinks. Then we had to remind him to bring my friends fries.
I had the fried chicken, which was the worst fried chicken I ever had.
This was a random stop in, next time we will go somewhere else.

Pretty standard old-​timey diner. Think Pulp Fiction Jack Rabbit Slim’s without quite the mystery.
The waitress stated that the burgers were what they are known for. Thus I ordered the Original Big Mac Daddy burger. It was a standard cheeseburger w/​special sauce (basically another Big Mac russian style sauce — nothing special). Came with your choice of fries, tater tots, etc. The nicest part of it was the half price draft beers during happy hour.
I didn’t get a chance to try, but the milkshakes looked quite amazing. My coronary arteries started clogging just looking at them.

Staff here are amazing, especially Jude and the girl with the honey colored curly hair. Sooooo friendly and professional, I’ll definitely be back

Nick is the new GM. He’s been there a week. My service was provided by Vanetta. She was a true pro and a people person. A lefty too! They were both excellent. Friendly/​greeting me smiling when I walked in the door. I’d go back in a heart beat just for the warm welcome!
The table was clean and atmosphere is always fun. I’m always busy finding photos to take of things I missed my last visit. The bathroom was even in good condition. My first time using it at Big Daddy’s.
Three stars because I’ve gotten a terrific upset stomach from the meal. I won’t order their fried chicken again. Sweet potato tots were very greasy too. If I paid full price for the chicken I would really have been upset. Way overpriced and quality lacking. Dry stringy with very little meat. The batter tasted good. I’m wondering now what was in it. I am very sensitive to some spices. If they added something atypical to the batter I may have had a reaction. I’m thinking garlic. I like traditional southern fried chicken. Next time I want fried chicken I’ll go to KFC!
Next visit I’m trying the half price breakfast. M-​Fri before 11am!
This Sunday at Big Daddy’s is free complimentary «MOM-OSA’S» all day for Mothers Day.

I love the old school décor and music. The food is very good, a little bit pricey, but fine with me. The staff has a GREAT attitude!
Big Daddy’s is just a few blocks from Gracie’s, which I would highly recommend against wasting your money there.

OMG… how much do I love this place! Went here for Sunday brunch and was not disappointed. We ordered the easy Rider & chicken & waffles The pancakes were everything u want a pancake to be & the sausage was devine. My only complaints were too much breading on the chicken and it was uncomfortably warm in there. I will definitely be back again and again and again

I took my kids here. What a fun atmosphere. I had a hamburger which was good. My kids loved the milkshakes. They had a nice selection of beers. The atmosphere was that of a 50s diner.

I came here one day after brunch with my husband for some milkshakes. The décor was really cute. Felt kind of like a «saved by the Bell» diner vibe.
We were greeted right away and seated. We ordered the creamsicle and cookies and cream milk shakes. They were AWESOME! can’t really comment on the food but definitely try this place out for their sweets! There’s also a bottomless brunch they have that I would definitely like to go back and try!

If you’re looking for a quick hangover cure in a greasy breakfast sandwich or platter, then look no further. I ordered the two by four… eggs over easy with a side of bacon and tater tots. Not the best I’ve ever had, not the worst. A bit over priced for a pretty low-​end diner if you ask me, but if you’re into video games than I guess Big Daddy’s has appeal? Idk, I don’t see myself returning.

Pros: amazing fried chicken; enormous portions; cute décor, friendly service
Cons: though the service is friendly, it is incredibly, incredibly slow, as well as unhelpful.

We visited Big Daddy’s quite randomly. It wasn’t planned, but overall the experience was good.
Décor here is very playful. There are bright colors and logos painted all over the walls, capturing the best of the 90s. We were here later in the evening last Saturday and were pleased to catch a playoff football game on the overhead TVs.
It took a little while for our server to finally approach us to take our orders (odd considering the place wasn’t busy at all), but our food and drinks didn’t take long at all to arrive.
My dining companions both ordered milk shakes (very large ones!) and I had a bloody Mary. Good to know you can get breakfast AND breakfast cocktails all day long here.
And speaking of breakfast, I ordered a breakfast burrito. It was large and satisfying, containing some of my favorite items – from avocado to cheese, beans, and bacon, it really hit the spot. The salsa on the side was a nice touch, but I could have used more, and maybe even sour cream. I loved the sweet tater tots on the side, but also tasted my friend’s regular tater tots and enjoyed those.
Overall, we had a solid diner-​style meal here. The décor is playful. The service isn’t particularly warm, but I didn’t really expect top notch service when I stepped in the door. I got what I expected, which was a satisfying meal on a chilly night.
A solid 3 stars.

The first time I came here was at midnight. I did boozy brunch, minus the brunch, for two hours with three other friends. Constantly handed plastic cups of alcohol (to be fair, a decent deal)…threw up for the first time in my life. Makes for a good story with friends, though!
The second time I came here, I used a Unilocal deal for $ 10 for $ 20. Our brunch ended up only being $ 7 – I ordered an omlette, mistakenly looking forward to delicious feta and spinach. Ended up being dry with no taste of cheese :(Tater tots on the side were very greasy.
2 stars in total for the atmosphere and for the fun diner feel, from the extensive menu to the trivia pursuit from the 80s!

It pains me to write this update, but after the horrific service we received Sunday I will never return to this location.
Let me explain. We waited for about 20 minutes for a table on Sunday around 11:30am. A man (who I assume is the manager) even gave us a $ 5 off for having to wait for a table for two– a nice gesture from the amazing service Big Daddy’s usually has.
After being seated and waiting for over 10 minutes for our waiter to come by, the manager stopped by and asked if anyone was helping us yet. We told him no and he sent someone right away. The waiter came, took our order (which included two bottomless boozy brunches) and that was the last we saw of him.
After an additional ¹⁵⁄₂₀ minutes of not even getting a glass of water, we decided to leave. When I approached the waiter (and manager who was next to our waiter) to let him know we were leaving and to cancel our orders, the waiter acted like he wasn’t even working our table.
I understand when restaurants are short-​staffed but this was unacceptable. Not even a check in, a glass of water, or even an apology from our waiter. It kills me to write a terrible review since the manager was trying so hard and seemed horrified when he found out our waiter hadn’t been to our table in over 20 minutes. If I want the wonderful diner food at Big Daddy’s, I’ll travel to the UWS or Gramercy.

I pass about 2 big daddy’s each time I’m in the city, so me and my boyfriend decided to give it a try one late night on a Saturday.
Service was really good for it to be one waitress serving about 5 tables, very welcoming and was glad to answer any questions since it was our first time.
So I got the Mac and cheese burger :\, it was taste less and the bun was like rubber Uqh I hated it along with the soggy sweet potato tots. My BF got a burger also and said it was dry and the bun was not even worth a dollar.
If you can’t make a good burger I don’t think you can make anything else good.

Eh. After you get over how cute and kitschy this place is: I wish they had invested as much in the food and the bathroom. I’m also sorry to put food and bathroom in the same sentence.
Food is overpriced for a bland, uninspiring menu. All I can really recommend are their shakes and breakfast fare.
Also, service is on the slow side and waitresses can be inattentive and ignore you when it’s time to get the check and pay.

I came here last night for a cheap dinner with my boyfriend. He ordered the fried chicken and waffles and I ordered the junior sliders. We also shared a plate of chili tots.
The food was very good, though still your typical diner selection. What makes this place 4 stars in my mind is the trivial pursuit cards at the table. We had so much fun answering questions and going through the stack.
The entire place is decked out in an 80s theme. When I have kids and they are tweens, I would totally encourage them to use this place as a hangout spot!
