Dr. Appelle has always been a NYC dentist. Many of the patients who started with him in the early days of his career remain with his practice to this day as do their children. Over the years, Dr. Appelle has developed a knowledge base and level of expertise that can only come with experience. We look forward to hearing from you!
History
Established in 1970.
In 1980, Dr. Appelle received an award from his dental society acknowledging his having taken more hours of continuing education than any other dentist in New York for that year. He holds a U.S. Patent for a dental shade guide device he invented.
Dr. Appelle heads up a team of dental specialists, whose expertise in their fields is coordinated with his overview of all aspects of dentistry, to provide a full range of treatment options. In 2011, the practice relocated to a new facility on 53rd Street and Madison Avenue, complete with modern, state-of-the-art equipment. A dental lab with master ceramists on the premises, facilitates the special needs associated with cosmetic dentistry.

Gerald Appelle D M D.
Business Owner
Dr. Gerald K. Appelle grew up in Mt. Vernon, NY. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College where he completed his pre-med requirements while majoring in Spanish with a minor in art. Dr. Appelle’s lifelong interest in art and his talent as a sculptor, draftsman, and painter, has had a strong bearing on the skills he brings to dentistry. Some of his works can be viewed on this website.
After college he attended Tufts, the most prestigious dental school in the country, earning his DMD degree. This was followed by two years in the U.S. Army as a dentist, with the rank of captain. He was on active duty for one year in California and one year in Vietnam during the war, earning an Army Commendation Medal and Bronze Star in the process. He also put four more years in the reserves, while beginning private practice in New York City.
Professionally, Dr. Appelle has spent countless hours taking continuing education courses, both didactic and hands-on, over the years
