History

Established in 1981.

Dr. Grapel graduated NYU College of Dentistry in 1981 and did his post graduate training at Maimonides Medical Center. He has been in private practice in Manhattan since 1982. He has been serving the dental needs of the diverse Manhattan community, including many patients in the theater, media and art industries.

Dr. Fred Grapel has been practicing dentistry in Manhattan for almost 30 years. He takes great pride and joy in practicing the highest quality dentistry available today. You will always receive the proper amount of time necessary for your treatment. Dr. Grapel has extensive experience in cosmetic dentistry as well as general dentistry so that the health and aesthetics of your mouth are always attended to.

Dr. Grapel completed his undergraduate training at SUNY Stony Brook and graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1978. He attended NYU College of Dentistry and graduated in the top ten percent of his class in 1981. Dr. Grapel did his post graduate training as a resident at Maimonides Medical Center in 1982 and has been in private practice ever since. Dr. Grapel lives in a nearby suburb of Manhattan with his wife of nineteen years and his three children.

Fred Grapel is simply THE best dentist in new york, so look no further. He has been my dentist since I moved back to nyc over 8 years ago, and was dentist to my brother and sister in law, before that. Honest, caring, skilled in every area of dentistry, he never rushes and manages to accomplish painless small miracles. Put yourself in his capable hands; you will be glad you did.

I’ve had several hygienists over the years, and I have to say there is one working here right now that is fantastic. Her name is Anna, ask for the Russian hygienist. She is very thorough, and so gentle, she has the hands of an angel. Usually with other cleanings there is rivers of blood when I rinse, but not with Anna. I strongly recommend you ask for her for your next cleaning.

Dr. Grapel is an excellent dentist who helped me after a terrible experience with another dentist. He rescued my mouth and saved my smile.
I’ve been going to Dr. Grapel for years now and have never had a bad cleaning or bad service. I’ve recommended him to friends and family and have never heard anything but great praise for Dr. Grapel and his office.

I found this place because it was close to work.
The hygienist was very rough and aggressive with her cleaning techniques. Honestly I have never been to a dentist where they literally scrape your teeth like that. First time ever that i have had bleeding during a teeth cleaning.
Found out i needed 2 fillings. He didn’t wait long enough for the anaethetic to numb my mouth so the drililng was quite painful. After a week i started to experience severe sensitivity in the tooth. I went back and he sanded down the filling to see if that would help (no charge since first filling appointment), still no relief after a month, so he removed the filling and put in a temporary filling. That provided some relief but when i went back 2 weeks later to get THAT removed for a permanent filling, the tooth was so sensitive he couldn’t even touch it. He removed half the temporary filling and now i’m stuck waiting with half a filling in there and i can taste the filling as well (real gross). He claims now i need root canal and i have never had issues with my teeth before.
All this from a simple filling. I am going to another dentist to get the filling looked at and for a second opinion. I am just not sure i trust his judgement or his work. The 2nd filling feels rough (the one that didn’t cause the sensitivity).
Going back to my original dentist at Tribeca dental associates. So gentle and informative and although far from work i’d rather the travel than risk another bad experience.

Today was my first experience at the Grapel’s office. Dr. Grapel was very nice. However, his assistant was brutally rude. Let me start by saying I’ve never had any issues with my teeth or at dentist cleanings before. The assistant called me a difficult patient when my lips were tense because of her aggressive cleaning technique. She raised her voice around a dozen times because of her inability to x-​ray my mouth the correct way. My mouth bled profusely because of her aggression, she shoved gauze in my mouth rather than placing it gently, and she said that I needed to do what she wanted so that we can both get out of there. This redefines the stereotype of the dentist office. I want to talk to the Dr about this experience because he seemed so nice but I guarantee that he’s losing patients due to his assistant. Do not go there.

Dr. Grapel has assuaged my fang pangs on many occasions.
Sleepless nights, aganozing days at work, headaches… all magically alleviated with a simple trip to his very accessible office in the middle of Manhattan.
I must say that I have never had a bad experiance here. Always very helpful staff, easygoing demeanor– yet always professional and knowledgable. Rachel is always very helpful and caring.
He is great– efficient, Doc will get you in and out, but never rushes the procedure. Always using the latest, most technological advanced techniques– I always leave satisfied and in no pain.

One of my friends told me to go to NYU Dental School for an emergency that I was having with one of my teeth. I ended up needing a root canal and the dentist botched the procedure. He perforated one of my canals and I ended up having to get the tooth removed. Now I have to get a dental implant put in.
After this story, I was not going to risk another tooth to the unskilled hands of the NYU dental students and faculty. When another tooth started acting up another friend advised me to see Dr. Grapel. I am so happy that I went to him because it was like a whole new dental world as far as this tooth is concerned. I had another root canal and it went just as normal root canals are supposed to go. I was in pain when I first called and his receptionist was able to schedule an appointment for me the very next day and then the root canal took place the following week.
Dr. Grapel is very efficient and has takes exceptional care of his patients. I recommend him to anyone who needs a dentist in the midtown area!

I agree with the previous review that Dr. Grapel is great. He’s very nice, very gentle, and overall a good dentist. His hygienist however, is the most ruthless one I’ve ever had. I have always kept up with my dental cleanings and have never had a major issue with my teeth. I felt like she was taking out all of her anger on my mouth! I’ve never been so sore after just a cleaning. No joke — my mouth was sore for two days which is ridiculous and she made me bleed for an hour (and I’ve never bled before at all!). Others in my office have also agreed that they are brutal with their cleanings at this office. You’re better off going somewhere else.

I had a toothache and a friend recommended me to see Dr Grapel. Since I had a bad experience with some dentist in a hospital down at East Broadway, I was quite skeptical but I was in pain so I called Dr Grapel’s office and to my surprise I was able to get an appointment the next morning, the receptionist was nice enough to move someone’s appointment so I could go in which was so cool! Good thing is that the clinic is within walking distance from my job.
I was kinda nervous on my way to the clinic but the staff there are so nice, they put me at ease right away when I arrived plus I didn’t even have to wait long … woo hoo!
Dr Grapel is very soft-​spoken, friendly, extremely patient and very detailed at explaining the situation of my teeth to me. I highly recommend him. :o)
