Last time in NYC I stayed at another Marriott hotel — the Residence Inn Times Square, nearby on Ave of the Americas. Absolutely loved it. This time for my stay we decided to give Fairfield a shot. What a mistake.
To start:
* under construction currently. Not a problem persay, but don’t expect the place to look wonderful with scaffolding everywhere.
* our check in experience, and the lobby, are beautiful. I will give them that. However; the tower this hotel is in is extremely small. Only about 8 rooms per tiny floor, and rooms are pretty small.
* this place hosts the «Sky Room» on the top floor, some swanky rooftop bar/​nightclub or whatever. This means that once it hits the evening, they take one of the 3 elevators for the entire hotel (that’s right, three elevators. For the entire hotel. Of 30 floors.). Not only this, but to get Sky Room guests to the top this also means that the «bouncer» in the lobby guarding an elevator for sky room people will jam those rude drunk guests in the elevator with you as you’re just trying to get to your room and get to bed in peace.
* our room came with 1 bath towel. One singular. Had to ask for more.
* our «view»? Right into an office building where those people can also see you as they are right across a very narrow street. So there goes any attempt at privacy.
* There is ONE ice machine and vending machine area for this entire hotel, and it’s in the basement. Which means if you want ice? Have fun taking the elevator down multiple floors and having it stop nearly constantly.
The stay in itself? Okay. Nothing to write home about. Breakfast is convenient, and decent. Despise the sassy looking notices in the elevator («warning» you not to go to breakfast anytime in the last hour of service), we went during the last 30 minutes of breakfast service this morning (Saturday) and made out perfectly fine. They also include trays you can load up at the buffet and take back to eat in your room if it’s too busy, I guess. A decent touch, but the area in itself is very very small. I’ll give breakfast in itself one star.
In short: Sky Room on the top floor creates a ton of annoyance and aggravance and inconvenience to hotel guests. Very very stupid idea. A small, cramped tower from the lobby through the guest rooms.
If you want to stay at a Marriott hotel near times square — go stay at the Residence Inn. 1033 Ave of the Americas. Spacious, roomy, not cramped, beautiful view and excellent breakfast services. Also rooms with fridges and room to breathe. I won’t be returning to this hotel.

Absolutely enjoyed our stay. Employees were professional and very responsive to our needs AND wants. Great location for shopping and food (and night life). We will definitely be going back!

Staff was really nice. Our room wasn’t ready, comped drinks and extra points. Manager remembered our name when checking out 3 days later. Close to Times Sq and Bryant Park. 15 min walk to Rock Ctr and the Highline. Room was quiet.

I would not pay more than $ 150 to stay at this property.
Only Pros good free wifi service and bathrooms although small are clean and updated.

Good location, few walking minutes from Times Square, in a quite street though not so nice. The lobby, lift and breakfast area look more suitable for a night venue instead of a hotel… also the music is too loud everywhere and inappropriate. Rooms are tiny as well as bathrooms… but clean. Breakfast looks shabby but after all there’s a wide offer both sweet and salty, good Starbuck’s coffee.

I came here for a spontaneous weekend retreat. I must say on a positive note, the front desk staff is extremely welcoming and courteous. I anticipated a smaller room when I walked in. We stayed in a king size, which in my opinion thought it was decent in size compared to other hotels we stayed at. It was very tidy. There was a sitting area/​couch in the corner of the room by the bed. There isn’t a fridge or microwave but breakfast is included in your stay, which we did not utilize. You also can get water and coffee near the lobby. The Sky Room Rooftop Bar was meh. I’ve been to better. Didn’t really understand the hype. I was also surprised that with all that commotion our room was pretty quiet.
I did come across several issues during our stay…
One, the elevators are pretty darn slow. I loathed the fact there were only 2 out of 3 working at the time. Come late evening/​night and there was a line. One line for the Sky Room and one for hotel guests. This was a huge aggravation. After that rush, I called room service for ice and towels, but no ice was brought up. I didn’t feel like going down to the basement myself, because who knew long that’ll take.
Also, I was not pleased with the Valet service. I anticipated for someone to already be outside to check me in upon my arrival. Instead, I had to double park and run inside for assistance. Such an inconvenience, but maybe this helps prevent car thieves? They also advised me to call at least 30 mins ahead of our departure to retrieve our vehicle, in which case I did. It didn’t really matter though, since I still waited in the lobby for an hour. Please never mention the word «soon» to a guest if it’ll take longer than 15 mins.
During my poor vehicle retrieval experience, I observed that when other guests were valeting their car or arrived by taxi, the staff would wheel a luggage rack and help them with their luggage. I was not offered this service upon my arrival. I guess they pick and choose.
Overall for the reasonable price and convenient location, I’d say go for it, but if you’re second guessing I’d say pass.

Nice place and rooms, but the front desk lady was rude and the wifi on the 7^th rooms in the hotel is weak and you lose connection every 3 minutes, the only way the conversation stays steady is to stand close to the door. Other than that is a good place to sleep and rooms are nice. Will I book here again? maybe if I am desperate and make sure it’s not the 7^th room in any floor.

Decent location if you want to be near times square.
However, breakfast was almost impossible to get into and the nightclub at the top of the hotel almost made the stay unbearable. It could not be heard from the room, but the elevator situation and the complete disrespect at a family hotel was ridiculous.
Lastly, the rooms are like shoeboxes. I am sure this is much of Manhattan, but smaller than one would even think.
Also, WiFi is intermittent at best, elevators are slow and very crowded, and room cleaning is slow.
Unless you get an unbelievable price, I would consider other options.

Everything is good here except the AC noise and oh yeah the elevators… it takes forever to get the elevators. If you have to stay choose the lower floors where you can walk the stairs.

Considering it’s New York the free breakfast and Happy Hour was great.
It was clean, quiet and had friendly folks.
I thought it was closer to Time Square. Very close to the bus and Metro.

Retour d’une semaine dans ce super hotel.
Nous étions au 2eme étage. Les chambres sont assez grandes, les lits sont très confortables !
Seul bémol: on né peut pas ouvrir les fenetres.

On est à 30secondes du métro et à 5min de Times square à pied donc c’est vraiment un emplacement idéal
Le petit déjeuner est typiquement américain: bagel, muffin, céréales, bacon, beurre de cacahoute, pancakes… un régal ! On peut meme prendre un plateau et déjeuner dans sa chambre !!
En résumé, super hotel, je recommande !!!

Chambre 19 eme étage.
Très propre, ménage tout les jours.
Personnel très cool et extrêmement réactif a mes 2 demandes. Sèche cheveux HS remplacé en 2 minutes et mise en route du chauffage par un employé en aura tant de temps.
Petit dej très correct, un peu d’attente mais possibilité de prendre en chambre.
En face de la station de métro port autority très pratique.
5 min de Times square a pied parfait emplacement.
Bar boîte de nuit sur le toit très cool.

Pros:

Meh…
Breakfast was typical free breakfast. Scrambled eggs were odd looking discs that I’m sure come frozen and are reheaged. Stuck to hardboiled eggs, toast and yogurt. Toasters didn’t work, had to run the toast through 3 times to get the bread brown.
Cons
Room temperature was impossible to control. Woke up several times at night either too hot or too cold. Choices were either HOT or COLD.
Bed was past prime. The mattress sagged to one side and the sheets were constantly coming out.
Front desk was a challenge.
— Did not distribute receipts under the door the morning I had to leave. When I asked about was told i must have missed it. Later learned the printers were down that morning and they didn’t get to it.
— To get a new receipt I had to fill out a sheet FAX it to them and wait for a response so they could send the receipt back to me. Had to follow up with them, was told it was my fault I «lost» the receipt… Not very customer service oriented.
Nightly rate of $ 350 seemed a bit high to me, probably the «tradeshow» rate.
Overall, would stay there again for the location, just avoid the front desk. But hey, it’s New York… Attitude is part of the experience.

Room nice size, hotel nice and clean however we had issues with the elevators and the sky room was closed because of the weather. Other than that we had a nice time

Decent hotel. The rooms are a little on the small side, but that is expected for NYC. They were modern and clean though. No complaints about the room and the hotel is well kept overall. My only tip would be to ask for a room on a lower floor, the elevator can take a bit and they only have three, at night one is reserved for the rooftop bar.

Whats not to love about this hotel. Good location, clean, restaurant on top if hotel, free breakfast, nice shower, good sized room, affordable valet parking. Sheessh… its all stuff that we love. I have my own business and I would hire any of these employees to work for me! Great attitudes, helpful, friendly. When I was checking in I started grooving to the great music and the bellhop joined me! Fun team here!’

Good rooms, clean, close to Times Square and Broadway Theater district. Near bus station. Downside would be the lines for breakfast and the speed of elevators. Overall I would go back. No issues on our part during our week stay.

I have stayed 125 nights so far this year at Marriott hotels now this place expects me to pay $ 263 plus tax a night to sleep in a bed with a comforter with blood stains and goodness knows what the other stains are! Call the front desk and all they do is have someone bring up a fresh comforter in a plastic bag and drop it off at our room. When I complain the front desk cops an attitude!!! I had asked to have the bed freshly made with clean linens and a clean comforter — what we had looked like it had been used by previous guest (s) — complete with their DNA in various forms! Instead what I got was a staff member dropping off a clean comforter in a plastic bag — her response was «what do you expect us to do? Drag it across the floor?» No rude front desk rep, I want a clean bed to sleep in. Asked for the manager, she wouldn’t connect me! She should be reprimanded or fired!
Called 1 – 800 Marriott who put me through to the Platinum Elite line — guess what — closed! Way to go Marriott

I stayed here while attending a conference at the Marriott Marquis. I REALLY wanted to stay at the Marriott Marquis, but the discounted rate for the conference was $ 369, so it wasn’t happening.
My travel agent got me a room here. It was a pleasant walk to through Time Square to the Marquis. I arrived early the first day thinking I’d have to drop off my bag and check in later but they actually had a room for me (at 7:45 am!!) and let me bring my bag up. Then they suggested I take advantage of the breakfast. Breakfast was simple, cereal, breads, scrambled eggs, sausages, yogurts, OJ & Coffee. About what you’d expect from any hotel breakfast. It wasn’t the best, but it was free and gave me a good start to the day.
The rooms were also clean. The hotel is about 40 stories tall but there are only about 8 rooms on each floor, so there’s no room that is far from an elevator (I found this out when I requested a room not near the elevator!). But it was fine. Noise was not an issue for me. You also need a key card to make your way up the elevator, so that is a nice security feature.
The beds were also really comfortable. That’s a big thing for me as I cannot sleep if the bed is not comfortable and I’ve never had an issue with a Marriott Bed.
Oh, and ask for a AAA discount if you’re a member. It brought the price down even lower. I think the rate I got was about $ 169 a night which is a bargain by Time Square.
The only down side is it is near the bus terminal but I only had to pass 2 sex shops on the way my hotel. Nothing like it was 10 – 15 years ago.

Mitten in Manhattan und nur wenige Meter bis zum Times Squere.
Schönes, ruhiges Hotel mit einer Bar im Obergeschoß,
von der man einen schönen Blick über New York hat.
Gegenüber ist der zentrale Busbahnhof und auch die U Bahn ist sehr nah.
Das Personal ist freundlich und das Frühstück ist gut.

I was hesitant about this location because of other people’s review but found it to be quite nice.
+ good location: stones throw from Time Square, very close to multiple bus/​metro options, awesome bar two doors down, and rooftop bar/​lounge (complimentary)
+ easy to check in (early)
+ complimentary lemonade and cookies in the lobby in the afternoon
+ complimentary breakfast
+ 3 elevators that are a bit slow at night because 1 is dedicated to the rooftop bar/​lounge but it was fine
+/​-​no view from our room but didn’t mind
+/​-​for an older building, the room and bathroom size was better than expected
— old AC system that was so loud at night
— old bed that had an uneven mattress but I was so tired at night I still passed out okay
