Margaritas for the price was amazing. Food is basic, nothing crazy. Not authentic. But a great place for drinks. Will go back for that.

If I could give them 10 stars I would. From the server(Chris), food, drinks and the manager(Kino) everything was impeccable. The staff was so kind, welcoming, accommodating and super duper professional. I would definitely recommend this location and I will be back.

A favorite go to for college students at Baruch. When I was in college anyway. In a nutshell, it is your typically decorated authentic looking Mexican place, with strong inexpensive margaritas, coronitas, all the tequila you could want on offer. You can get large margarita too so you can be wasted in no time if that is your goal. They have amazing food if you know what to get. My go to was always the chicken quesadilla and burrito. Always large portions, and always delicious. I have never once had a bad meal here in the about 45 times I have eaten here over 3 years. On the weekends they used to run a brunch here where for one price you could get unlimited mimosas as well as a choice of a menu item from their special brunch menu. It was a great deal. I have not been here recently to check if they are still on it-but if you stop in make sure to ask if it is still happening. Same types of food options but unlimited alcohol also, there really is no better deal then that in nyc for brunch. My favorite server no longer works at this location because he moved to the other one uptown, however I have never had bad service here. When it is busy the servers can get a bit weird about you lingering at tables(especially if there’s a wait) but that is to be expected. If you come for lunch during the week you will never have this problem. Also if you come here on big drinking holidays such as cinco de mayo expect it to be packed, don’t be angry and write bad reviews because you didn’t plan ahead. Overall one of my favorite mexican spots in nyc. I have been a loyal fan for about 5 years and will continue to go unless I am otherwise disapointed!

Everytime I come here the food tastes phenomenal! Jimmy Fallon voice, «So good guys, SOGOOD!» Their list of burritos will satisfy everyone! I usually get the chicken which is soft, or the steak which is flavorful and juicy. The burrito is HUGE btw. You can also get naked(wait don’t take off your clothes!) style, where they serve it without the tortilla wrap — lose the carbs lose the belly! Their guac and salsa are delicious. Now let’s get to the best part. $ 2 mini margaritas, only available during lunch. The flavored ones(coconut, raspberry, etc.) are okay but the classic one with a lime wedge is fantastic :) Recommended: Chicken/Steak Burrito, Margherita

I am a blockheads regular and I feel like I’m at home whenever I arrive. I always go for a classic bulldog which is a margarita and upside down beer in the glass as a garnish and a chicken burrito. They have new Blockheads popping up throughout NYC. I love the one on 50th because of the outdoor seating but I also appreciate this location because it isn’t as busy. I notice that they made the burritos a bit smaller which is good because I didn’t know a lot of people that could finish a whole one in one seating in the first place. Blockheads is a great family and friends style Mexican restaurant with a fun vibrate feel. No matter on the time and day whenever you arrive you feel like it’s a weekend. I’ve always loved this place and I know I always will!

Worst blockheads, correction worst restaurant I have ever been to– like ever… I think the ladies selling mango near penn station are more sanitary, kinder, have better customer service than this place. Like for reals! I went to this particular blockheads on 5 de mayo 2016. I was served the wrong food, to which if I had an allergy to, I would have died, I asked to speak to the manager, manager dropped off some sauce at my table and left, did not speak to me, did not apologize. Ok… I let it go– I mean if I was allergic, I would need to stab myself with an epipen to survive the night. Then I asked the waitress if we could have 2 of my friends leave the table, and two other friends take their place. To which I was told, yes that is no problem. However, it became a problem. My friends left, I was drinking my margarita with my boyfriend and boom– some maybe«assistant manager» walks over and states: «you cannot stay at this table, if you have other people joining you they cannot order on your check, in fact they cannot even sit down, they need to put their names on a list». Ok on one hand I am like, it is 5 de mayo, maybe they are busy– sucks waitress told me this would be ok– but I can deal with this… on the other hand im like: what? I am not allowed to finish my drink– moreover I want to order another drink, I cannot order another drink? Are you kicking me out for no reason? Finally the«assistant manager» thinks and realizes that he is technically incorrect and lets me finish my drink– then he rudely moves us to another table– a smaller table for our party and again advises that our friends cannot order when they get to blockheads. Meanwhile at this point there is no wait and no line outside. Emptiness… crickets. My mind is blown. My friends show up and their mind is blown. So they awkwardly stand by our table and we are figuring out what to do and finishing our drinks. Then the bouncer/body guard comes over and says that our friends cannot stand, they also cannot share seats with us. That our friends must leave. Mind Blown. We ask the security guard if he is serious, he apologizes and tells us this is only a part time job for him. We tell him his manager is horrible and we feel bad for him. Our waitress apologizes and says that she does not agree with the way we were treated. We tell her we are sorry she has the managers she has… we close the bill and leave. We go down the block to bareburger– we have 100% better time, with managers that dont want to alienate their customers. We vow never to visit blockheads again. BEWARE!!! do not visit this location– just do not do this to yourself. You owe yourself a better experience anywhere else– like anywhere else. Seriously churro or mango ladies– better service– go to them if you are really hungry and want a cheap option. Or to the hundreds of other better restaurants in the area.

Time here was excellent. Rollled in about 3pm Sat afternoon. Wasn’t alot of people inside so seating was instant. Greeted by a pleasent gentelman that was friendly and took good care of us throughout the stay. We got our usual chips and guac, was delicious. Washed that down with a very strong but delicious bulldog, followed by a steak burrito. Burritos did seem a little on the skimpy side in regards to the meat portions in comparison to the other blockheads throughout the city but it is what it is. Other than that atmosphere was great service was ok as well as food. Will return. 3 stars because the burritos have gotten smaller and didn’t really wow me.

Heaviest meal during my MealPass experience so far. The super veganator burrito is actually quite flavorful, and has a bunch of ingredients that are allegedly good for you — quinoa, spinach, mushroom, bell pepper in a whole wheat tortilla. There’s also vegan cheese which is ok but doesn’t melt as nicely. I might be tripping but I thought I tasted some potatoes in there too. Comes with chipotle mayo which defeats any veganism. Free chips are sealed in a pyramid bag and pair well with their salsa.

Came to blockheads last night for dinner. The restaurant is pretty cramped, very dim, and very loud. But that could just be because we were seated in the back. The free chips and salsa were good, and they refill them too. For my entrée I ordered the southwest chicken burrito. It was HUGE. Like probably 1.5 times the size of a chipotle burrito. I liked how packed with veggies and meat the burrito was. Partway through it though, I just started feeling sick. I don’t know if it’s because I put too much hot sauce on it or the chips, but it was weird because food pretty much NEVER makes my stomach upset. This time, though, I felt sicker each time I ate more of the burrito. Kind of disappointing. The food itself tasted decent, but something was off. Also, the price of the food was quite expensive. I expected burritos to be under $ 11 or so, but they were all $ 12-$ 15 even for vegetarian ones. For the food and experience you get, blockheads to me is more a place for the 3AM munchies(if only it were cheaper), not really a place I would recommend for dinner. I hear their margs are amazing though, so I’d come back to try those.

Cheap margaritas, decent burritos, terrible service. Pet peeve No. 1 in a restaurant is when you have to look for your server to ask for water after being seated for over 20 mins. It wasn’t till after I was choking on a chip with no water that I had to flag down another wait and ask for water. Water should be automatic! Pet peeve number No. 2 in a restaurant is «no separate checks». I have 0 interest in getting out my calculator and figuring out who owes what. What’s worse is the server told me they can’t separate but the manager disclosed that they actually could. Depending on how busy they were. So basically the server just didn’t feel like it. Our server was just not attentive nor did he seem to give a slight F$@* about our experience. He would come ask if we wanted something else and then before I could say yes he already turned around and walked in the opposite direction. Unfortunately my experience was ruined before I even got the food. I ordered the BBQ chicken burrito and despite not being a traditional Mexican food item it was tasty. I wouldn’t mind getting it again and washing it down with some $ 5 Margaritas. But the service at blockheads has been so bad, I won’t even bother. They made me feel like they wanted nothing more but my money and the experience I received in return was irrelevant. I’ll add that the manager was very gracious and tried to mitigate things but it was too late.

Meh, I was really excited because I had the craziest craving for jerk chicken and so I went and got a jerk chicken burrito. But it felt like it was missing something the chicken just didn’t seem to have that many spices. But the guac that I ordered on side was good but for two dollars the portion was super small I rather get it at chipotle. Maybe I’ll give this place a try again but definitely will need some time to pass.

I’ve been coming here for a little while and now all of a sudden, they changed the whole menu. No more $ 5 burrito lunch specials… which is kind of the whole point of me coming and of course the lunch margs but drinking during working hours is pretty frowned upon. so I don’t actually do that. It’s just appealing. They also offer mac and cheese now instead of rice, but of course, being a mac and cheese addict, they don’t have any. Not all that thrilled with blockheads lately, but food is great and I love the sock monkey mascot… awesome music playing too.

Came here on my lunch break. I wasn’t that thrilled with Blockheads. I ordered the BBQ chicken burrito on a wheat wrap. It came out on a white flour tortilla. I didn’t bother telling the waiter — my time here was limited. I’d also asked for both types of beans but the waiter told me I couldn’t do that. Wouldn’t you want to just appease the customer and just make the burrito with half black beans and half pinto? I can’t imagine this being a huge sacrifice for the restaurant. The restaurant was featuring a new«substitute rice with mac & cheese — no charge!» Emboldened and indicated with an arrow on their new menus… Go to order — no mac and cheese. Ok, cool. My burrito was included in the lunch special($ 11.50), along with many other menu items from quesadillas to tacos. My food tasted good nonetheless but I won’t come back here. Everything else is just too spotty.

Huge burrito, what’s not to love! They also have delicious cheap margaritas? although I made the mistake of getting a huckleberry margarita because I thought I would be cool and original. Nope, stick to the classics. Burritos come as is, no beans and rice or anything, but they have the option of whole wheat tortillas which is appreciated!

I came here for lunch on Friday and the good thing was that it wasn’t crowded and service was quick. With that said, the food itself was not good. And, on top of that, it was totally not worth the price. I ordered the lunch special which was a choice of burrito, salad, quesadilla, or other types of nacho options, with a drink. I went for the burrito with chicken, rice, beans, and guac. First, I was definitely expecting there to be some sort of vegetable in there. But there was none. I’m not even sure that was an option. Normally, I’m used to having like onions or at least lettuce but the lack of veggies was definitely distressing. Second, the meat was dry. Chipotle chicken is much more tender and flavorful. Third, lack of flavor with the rice or beans. Again, chipotle wins on this count as well. This meal was not worth $ 17.

I would say this place is a little overhyped. If I could give this place 3.5 stars I probably would. I have only been to this location once, but I’ve eaten at several other locations, and as far as the food goes, it’s pretty consistent. FOOD(3⁄5): When I came to this location me and boyfriend got the nachos with chicken, 3 cheese quesadillas, and a burrito. All in all the food isn’t bursting with flavor. I think the most flavorful item we got were the nachos. Me and boyfriend poured the green hot sauce all over the burrito and quesadilla so it wouldn’t taste so bland to us. DRINKS(5⁄5): If I ever come to blockheads again, it’ll solely be for the drinks. They stir up some amazing concoctions and they are worth every penny! Me and boyfriend both got bulldogs and they were amazing! SERVICE(5⁄5): I am always welcomed to every blockheads location with amazing servers. Theh are friendly and highly attentive!

If you’re looking for a mediocre, overpriced Mexican restaurant with apathetic staff and a complete disregard for your dietary concerns, then boy have I got a place for you! Despite advertising many gluten free options on their menu, this means little to anyone with a serious gluten intolerance if your server messes up your order and then doesn’t bother to check in for 90% of your meal. Mistakes happen, I understand, but after our orders were mixed up we had to flag down someone else to try and resolve the problem– and then we didn’t even know if the replacement was gluten free as well. As for my food: congealing cheese covering a mass of lukewarm beans, chicken, and rice. Nothing memorable, definitely nothing I’d return to pay $ 14 for. Also be aware that if you go for a naked burrito, their definition of a «bed» of lettuce is about 3 pieces of romaine. Tl;dr: be careful if you’re gluten free, because you may end up throwing up in the street on the way home after eating here. Oh, and guac is extra.

A little weak for subpar, overpriced Mission style Mexican food and drinks. Mission style Mexican food was invented in San Francisco’s mission district as glorified Mexican food with American pizzaz. Think Chipotle. I had just came back from having Mission style Mexican food in San Francisco a few weeks ago, so I still had high expectations. Blockheads is just a quick walk from my apartment, plus they have frozen margaritas! Nothing like a little hangover cure from NYE by having more boozy drinks. The atmosphere is some what like a sports bar with Mexican food. They have a huge variety of drinks which is great for hanging out and catching up with friends or a super duper casual date. Each table gets chips and salsa which is nice, but seriously I kid you not. It was straight up Tostitos chips and bottled salsa… disappointment #1. I ordered a frozen marg with watermelon flavor – WHEREWASTHEWATERMELON? It was only plain with a little red food coloring on the bottom. I looked over to other people’s frozen margs and they had different color flavors mixed, the whole drink was red or pink etc. Where was mine? I kept mixing it the entire meal hoping it will turn red and taste like watermelon but that didn’t happen… It’s 6 dollars for some slushy ice and a drop of food coloring at the bottom! Booze was barely strong enough too to make up for it. Overwhelmingly sweet… disappointment #2. My hubby ordered Grandma’s Ice Tea which is basically Sweet Lemon Tea with some vodka. It was so watered down and not strong, sadly it just tasted like tea. The tea was good though, but not really worth it for $ 9. Do not recommend. Down to the food. We ordered simple items for dinner. Hubby got BBQ chicken burrito. I got a quesadilla grande. Simple stuff. Took about 5 – 10 mins to come out. My quesadilla was WARM, barely hot enough. Can food even be served at this temperature? Portions are OK for my quesadilla. Hubby’s burrito was small, almost kid sized. Think Chipotle’s burrito went on a diet lost 50% of it’s body weight. Yep. Mine came with a side of sour cream and jalapeños, and I realized guac was on the INSIDE of my quesadilla. GROSS. SOGGY. MESS. Especially adding in «roasted pepper» aka soggy pepper sitting around for too long they go limp and slimy – yeah. Not so great. Where is my cheese? And where’s the onions in the guac??? It was a straight up disappointment #3. Hubby did not even taste chicken in his burrito until he was 2⁄3 finished. Really? A one way street to Noflavortown… Sorry, not sorry. This is NOT Mission style Mexican food at all. We both agreed. having Chipotle is better. I just felt so sad that the fact, I know it’s a chain restaurant but what kind of Mexican food is this? I glanced inside the kitchen on my way to the bathroom. At least 90% of the kitchen staff is Mexican. I bet if given the chance to do their own thing, they would no doubt whip out some way more authentic food – none of this silly American fast food. Wait staff is fine, but we were seated near the kitchen/bathroom(pet peeve) and someone kept dropping food and spilling sour cream and nachos. I was so afraid waiters and waitresses would step on it accidentally and slip. Worst off, the bathroom AND customer takeout pick up is right where they keep spilling it. Would be bad to have customers stepping on it! It was cleaned up, but not immediately. Atmosphere is loud, noisy and dark. Some may enjoy this if it’s a Friday night and you’re looking to just start your happy hour. K that’s fine. Just don’t eat anything. Not romantic. Don’t take a date unless she’s a bro to you. 2 drinks and 2 entrees ended up almost $ 55 with tip… disappointment #4. Are you serious? Do you know how much Chipotle one can buy with $ 55? You can have a chicken or sofrita bowl/burrito WITHGUAC that actually tasted better – FIVETIMES(approx $ 11 each) Save your money and get 5 bowls of Chipotle instead. So not worth it and a waste of our wallets and our tastebuds.

Meh — Mexican food in this area isn’t great. Blockheads is a spot you want to come to for cheap, sugary drinks and relatively inexpensive food. My roommate and I went for dinner last night because we were craving Mexican and didn’t want to go far or spend a lot of money. I haven’t been here in a while and now I remember why. It’s a dark restaurant, with tables/booths randomly scattered and stairs smack dab in the middle of the dining area. We had two nice waiters. I got the mango margarita and it was very sugary and syrupy. The bartender mixed in front of me in this plastic shaker, gave me a small glass with ice and salt on the rim, poured a bit into the glass, and left the shaker. It’s a cool concept and I actually like that they did it that way — just the margarita wasn’t good at all. The chips and salsa they give you are okay in the beginning. The chips taste like tortilla chips out a bag you can get the grocery store and the salsa is bland, but decent — added a lot of hot sauce into it. My roommate and I split two things — the tofu tacos and the grande quesadillas. The tofu tacos were actually very, very tasty! The tofu was grilled nicely and it tasted well with the veggies and flavors in the taco. The side of beans and Spanish rice was also decent, and adding some of that into the taco made it taste a lot better too. However, the enchilada was not good at all, and not mixed well. One piece was all guac, another was all black beans… it was very segregated and each bite had too much of something. In hindsight, we should’ve asked for less or no guac, as it wasn’t that good at all.
