Great local spot. Not overly crowed. Good happy deals on apps(½ off) and drinks($ 5/$ 6 on select beers and cocktails) till 8. Staff is attentive. Fun place to sit and linger with friends. Staff doesn’t try and rush you along.

We’ve been waiting here for 15 minutes, two servers have seen us look at them multiple times and are busy chatting with each other. Not one has approached us to serve — we thought it appropriate to post this here before walking out unserved.

Overall this bar has a lot going for it, I like the décor and have been there multiple times. Recently I went and had a horrible dining experience, we went during happy hour and they offer a «bait and switch» on their margaritas that has fooled many of my friends. That’s only minor relative to the whole experience. We had a horrible waitress who refused to break up a bill or split it up. After we had our food an hourly let we went to the manager, we pointed out the mud charged drinks he did not acknowledge it and finally he took a discount on the price. We went for a birthday and had a terrible experience, i wish it didn’t play out that way

Drinks: some of their signature drinks are really delicious! Atmosphere: maaa. Typical bar. It has that«fraternity/sorority» vibe. Food: really good! My roommate and I were really surprised! Staff: decent. Overall, it’s your typical bar with surprisingly good food(and happy hours)!

A cute little joint more closely resembling a chic cocktail bar than a pub, while maintaining a casual ambiance. With a long bar near the front and a dining area/room in the back separated by a curtain, there’s enough space for diners and drinkers alike. I came here with a friend on a Saturday night for some late night grub and drinks. We sat at the bar and placed our orders with the bartender, who was a bit odd. My friend and I took an ussie and accidentally got her in the background. When I showed her and we all laughed about it, she grabbed my phone out of my hand and cropped herself out of the pic. Sitting there waiting for this stranger to give me my phone back was… awkward… Let’s move on. We ordered the 3 to-share plates for $ 25: Grilled Shrimp & Avocado, Bar Nachos, and Classic Buffalo Wings. The shrimp and avocado, although skimpy at 3 shrimps and half an avocado, was so flavorful and perfectly cooked! You neeeeeed to try this. The nachos and wings are just average; unless you’re really craving these standard bar items, I’d say try something else. And definitely get a cocktail. Our drinks were ONPOINT! But still, Barkeep, please don’t take my phone from me.

Had a terrible experience there, my card was overcharged even after I left when I only ordered for two items of a lesser price. They eventually were able to resolve the issue and reimburse me. The food was ok and so were the drinks.

Came here with a friend for a drink in saturday night. Wound up having a really good steak salad and delicious mac n cheese at the bar. Everything was served by the best bartenders that were so cute but also knew their stuff! Will definitely be coming back.

Used to be pig and whistle, now bar rua. Either way, I love this place for what it is: a cozy neighborhood bar to catch a Sunday football game and drink some beers. Their food is delicious and the bartenders and servers are great! Only negative is their happy hour: they have happy hours all through the week and even weekends but I’m not blown away by the prices considering it’s a supposed to be happy hour. I will definitely be back!

Came here for brunch, the service was slow and the food was mediocre at best. Will not be coming back for brunch, but they do have an AYCD menu. Looked like a better place for happy hour/night

Perhaps I’m getting old(I’m definitely getting old) but I don’t particularly enjoy venues that are so over crowded that I can barely move. In fact, I’m getting so crusty, I much rather go to a place where I can sit down, chill with some friends, and have a drink without worrying about getting into a fight with some douchey fist pumping moron. Thankfully Bar Rua fits that bill, a chill neighborhood bar without having to stand should to shoulder with other people. The drink prices are fair, and in the back there’s ample seating and TVs for I’m guessing when a game is on.

Just saw the best customer service at this bar. I have been at many bars where they scam and double charge customers. Not here. A man came to pay his tab at the bar. I have seen this many times. Instead of just taking his money the bartender checked and found out his tab had already been paid by another person. He did not insist he pay for his drink. The honesty of these bartenders is so refreshing for New York City. On top of that they are nice, personable and make amazing drinks! I recommend this bar to anyone!

As a regular bar, this place may be alright — I’m not sure, haven’t gone for happy hour or late night — but for breakfast/brunch it was terrible. My friend and I stumbled in here on a particularly hungover Saturday morning one weekend looking for some no-frills brunch food. I honestly was so un-picky about my food at that point, the fact that I can even write a bad review is impressive. The food we got(an omelette and an egg wrap) were both just… off. Fruit cup on the side was meh, potatoes seemed like they were previously frozen, and nothing was super hot — which was weird, since we were 1 of 3 tables in the whole place. I might’ve been able to deal with the food if the service wasn’t so awful. Seriously, the waitress couldn’t have ignored us anymore if she wasn’t assigned to our table. We seriously considered leaving without paying because no one came to bring us change or charge our cards for 35 minutes after bringing the bill. Passing on this one for good, sorry guys.

I have been going to the Pig and Whistle for years, but now it’s Bar Rua. This is one of my favorite spots to grab a beer and a delicious burger. The décor is the same as when it was Pig and Whistle, the owners are the same and the menu has remained relatively the same. It’s a great atmosphere and the drinks are good and reasonably priced. This is definitely a great after work spot for drinks and a great spot to watch the game.

Nice neighborhood bar under new ownership. We had great service and great food. Free range turkey burger for me and fish tacos for my husband. We shared and I have to say the turkey burger was better in presentation and flavor. The tacos were fine, just not fabulous with all the great taco choices in town.(I am a bareburger turkey burger fan, so if you like their turkey burger, you would probably like the turkey burger here too) Fries were handcut and crispy, a nice bonus. The whole menu is an improvement from the standard bar food options in the neighborhood. Sign on the wall says their kitchen is open til 2am each night.

Same as the Pig and Whistle before it– same owners, same décor, I assume same menu, same tvs, same, same, same, just a different name, and that is fine by me. I enjoyed/still enjoy the Pig… errr I mean Bar Rua. Great atmosphere and decent drink prices. We came here for a Happy Hour last week, sign said 8 but apparently it went until midnight. Now we are talking. A litany of drafts were 5 bucks and so was the seasonal drink– hot cider and Jameson, and let me tell you they were liberal with the Jameo. Great after work spot for drinks and a great spot to watch organized sports.

Still the same ol’ Pig N’ Whistle. A friend from out of town randomly picked Bar Rua as the place to hang out. We all came up to hang out wit him and I was actually pleasantly surprised. It was still filled with the typical Murray Hill clientele, but it was for some reason much more manageable. The bouncer at the door was very nice and was patient even though my friend took forever with her ID. Inside, there was actually plenty of space, and the DJ was playing a pretty good mix of 90’s, 00’s and today. Oh boy, 00’s. Anyways, drinks were pretty cheap and the roving band of waitresses were very quick with bringing out drinks and orders. They have the same happy hour and nightly specials, including $ 5 Fireball on Fridays. Yikes. There are a lot of TVs everywhere, so it’s a decent spot to catch games, if you live in the area. Didn’t get a chance to try the food, but from what the waitresses were carrying around, it looked like pretty good bar food. Not sure if I would go out of my way to come back here, but for drinks with a group of friends in Murray Hill, Bar Rua ain’t half bad.

Drinks: Good Beer selection. Happy Hour from 5 – 8, not all beers are on the happy hour list but there are a good number of them. Service/Atmosphere: I like the feel here. Very Clean but not stuffy at all. Music isn’t so loud you can’t talk. Bartender is very nice. Sidewalk seating. Utilities: didn’t see plug in for phone anywhere. Bathrooms are awesome. Downstairs, very clean, private doors… maybe it’s odd to appreciate a place for bathrooms but if you do, stop here and gave a drink
